Let's see:
  • New screen with several new technologies possible including in-cell, IGZO and gorilla glass 2.
  • New housing with full metal back. 1.2mm thinner.
  • New battery with a different chemistry.
  • LTE
  • First non refresh iOS device with 32nm processor. All rumors say more than just an A5 die shrink.
  • New dock connector.
  • New headphone jack location.
  • FaceTime camera moved.
  • Thinner top and bottom bezels.
  • New smaller SIM standard.
  • Possible NFC.
  • Possible 1GB RAM.

This is the most drastic generational change since it launched. I don't know what else you guys are expecting, and neither do you. Everyone fails to come up with an answer as to what would constitute a drastic change except a huge screen. Well, that's a user preference thing. Not everyone is going to be receptive to a 4.7" screen coming from a 3.5" screen so get over that idea.

All True. It will sell Millions. You're going to love the IZGO In-Cell. :apple:

The only thing that makes me think that these are real

All these leaks are either a big red herring or Apple new security measures royally suck.

is that a recent rear photo had all of the proper etchings underneath the word "iPhone". Most of the time they don't have anything other than iPhone, but one of them had practically (from what I could tell) the exact etchings.

Now, i am not saying that this HAS to be the final product, there is strong evidence that it is, but I still have some reservation because there an awful lot of leaks on this year's model and I am wondering why as well. Apple usually takes this stuff down ASAP if it was. So either they want it leaked to throw people off, or to get excitment for the new product since this is a LOT of free advertising.

There are good/bad reasons to keep TOO much secrecy or have stuff leaked.

I kind of like the secrecy because I like to test my own levels of guessing. It's a past time for me.

I thought I read that there will be dual mics for noise cancellation for both voice recognition and communication.

I'm really not interested. iPhone users have been fed the same product with tweaks here and there for years now, and if you ask me the iPhone is no where near deserving of being called an "elite phone" anymore. The iPhone (and its operating system iOS) line has gone stale and I for one wont upgrade my iPhone 4. What exactly are Apple doing to innovate or push through new technology in the iPhone? A 0.5" screen increase, probably a slightly faster processor, little more RAM maybe, and a very boring upgraded iOS 6 that I would consider iOS 5.5. The iPhone no longer offers unique selling points, Android phone are more than capable nowadays and surpass the iPhone in many ways.

They will still ship millions though.

You're really not a long-time Apple user, are you? Apple keeps their product lines CLEAN and SIMPLE. They don't add fluff for the sake of adding fluff, that's not their strategy, but that easily happens on completing [Android] platforms because those companies are desperate to differentiate themselves from each other. Apple only has to complete with itself on most levels.

If you're interesting in a messy product line with lots of bells and whistles, then go Android. What's stopping you? It's there waiting for you. If you want a clean, simple, well-designed and well-executed platform that just works, then iOS/iPhone is a great choice, as voted on by millions of wallets around the world.

If you have suggestions for Apple, then don't waste your time here. Put them in writing at www.apple.com/feedback/

Wow. Someone on here who is actually reasonable? Gotta say I'm surprised.

It seems like not even Apple users know what they want from Apple anymore. No other company could redesign their phone with a completely new aspect ratio, redesign some of the software to fill in that extra screen space, completely redesign the shell to an a black anodized aluminum unibody, new in cell display technology, bigger battery, bigger speaker, etc, all while making the product even thinner....and then have the customers say its not enough.

People in this community are getting way too unrealistic with Apple. No matter what hey do, it isn't good enough. They want a Macworld 2007 again. But guess how many times Apple has done that level of 'wow' before. You could count the number of times on your hand. I remember when the Apple community used to gasp in the audience when Steve showed a backlit keyboard for the first time or some other refinements. Now you guys just WANT MORE MORE MORE.

If I was apple and I wanted to keep the new design of my IPhone secret without questions I would leak false information. If I could supply pictures and in some cases parts using a prototype or a purposely designed fake iPhone I would. The way I would do it is to find where my best potential for leaks would be and give false information to those people. So like Foxconn employees would think one thing while the truth is something else. I'm not saying they are doing this but it wouldnt be hard, it wouldn't take a lot of effort and we see how effective false information is, governments do it all the time. If I was Apple I without question would do it. I won't be shocked in October when they show the real phone and it's totally different. Yes October cause September is just a rumor right now also.

However, Foxconn employees are making the actual devices right now as we speak, so they would know whether there is a "real" other device being sold, and likely would have leaked it, as well. They aren't going to make millions of "fake" products, or be able to produce millions of a different design without details coming out. For all we know, last year's "teardrop" phone was an intentional leak by Apple to gauge public reaction for such a design that we may or may not see in the future.

I'm not sure what people are expecting. Apple usually doesn't make radical changes to its products once they are released. Its innovations are usually in the form of new product lines. The iMac is the biggest single exception to this, but for the most part you can take the current versions of the rest of the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPod lines, place them next to the originals, and the originals wouldn't look out of place.

What will be interesting to see is if Apple moves away from the annual update cycle for the iPhone. The pace of evolution is accelerating, and the 4S showed explosive growth its first two quarters before stalling somewhat last quarter (and undoubtedly even more this quarter with the new iPhone release fast approaching). Perhaps we may see more frequent, but more evolutionary updates (which is essentially Samsung's approach if we treat the Nexus and Galaxy S lines as a tick-tock). That always leaves Samsung something "fresh" in the marketplace, and gives them a chance to experiment a bit. It obviously has worked for Samsung, so Apple could make it work, as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 4 become the new "budget" model in the US and Western Europe, with the 4S in the same role as today's iPhone 4. If Apple switches to a quicker cycle, they could alternate between updates (e.g. 4S updated to add LTE or NFC in March 2013, "iPhone 5" updated September 2013).

At the same time, I assume that the iPhone 4 will increasingly supplant the 3GS as the "base" model. They may leave the 3GS as a cheap phone for emerging markets like Africa, or even China where they are struggling to sell more expensive phones.

I like the headphone jack on bottom that's nice cause wires always get in way. I like longer screen but I wish it was edge to edge. I find that TV'sedge to edge look so nice I think a phone would benefit as well. What will the new iPhone offer that no other phones offer? That is the question I worry about. They usually add something each time. I have a feeling this one will be huge. I think it's going to involve adding the use of another sense while using your iPhone.

How would you hold the phone comfortably without touching the screen if it was edge-to-edge. I'm sure Apple wants that too, but it's just not realistic with our current technology. They try to implement accidental-touch protocols where certain touches are ignored, but it still affects the overall usability of the product. So a bezel/edge is necessary for good usability.

The amount of leaks is getting ridiculous.

The amount of leaks that don't really tell us anything is ridiculous.

It would be awesome to think that Tim doubled down on secrecy by releasing leaks of a fake iPhone 5 to cover up the actual one. I'm doubtful though considering the amount of leaks. We will just have to wait and see on September 12th.

Number of leaks

... if you ask me the iPhone is no where near deserving of being called an "elite phone" anymore ...

Who on Earth calls anything an “elite phone”?

I for one will make a boatload of money off this new stretch phone. I will short apple stock very heavily and make gazillions =)

I will not buy this **** even if it costs around $99 I will stick with my iphone 4 until they realise that TC is a new Sculley and kick him to the curb.

Then they can present something new next year that people actually want.

I think the stock price target is at around $500 because of large holdings by institutional investors whom are incompetent and bought 2 billion dollars worth of FB. But if they panic after a $100 shave, we could dip down to 480-475....

The iPad mini will offset some of loss from this coming fiasco.

If I am wrong, I will post photos of me eating raw fish! :)

The expectations are for this phone to break all previous sales records, and I would be shocked if that doesn't happen. Consider how many people bought the 4s, despite it being essentially the same phone as the 4.

This phone has real internal upgrades that people can use (LTE), and a somewhat larger screen. As much as I dislike the design, it is a bigger change than we got last year.

I think you're right about the iPad mini....I think that's where the real excitement will be this year. (And then next year it will retina display.)

Just curious...what happens to apps based on 4:3 ratio if the new one is 16x9??

I'm sold on the new iPhone as long as it has LTE. Using 3G is like dial-up with AT&T - and that's if you can actually get a signal.

I don't get it though - trolling's not meant to be about just making yourself look stupid is it?

After using the Galaxy S3 for a few weeks, going back to using the iPhone again. My God, the screen is tiny!!!

The fall in sales the past couple quarters is because the 4s appears to be the same phone as the 4 for 99 percent of the people out there. They're bored with it, every kid and granny has one.

I don't think you'll see a faster release cycle unless they don't break last year's sales (pretty unlikely).

Because the phone is staying at the same width it shouldn't be a problem, maybe I'm wrong but I don't hold the edge when I use my phone, I hold the back and use my thumb, sometimes I use two hand and hold back and use my other hand to type but I never hold the edge so I don't see how that is a problem at all. Sure if it was wide it could be but most people can use one hand. My wife has small hands and I'm looking at her use one hand to type on her phone right now. I don't think this would be as difficult as you suggest. I'm not saying your wrong but it doesn't seem to be hard figure out if they really wanted to do it.

I'm sorry but the iPhone is not as sound as you make it really. I mean I have one and compared to others it has it's problems just as much. True they revolutionized the mobile industry but they do tend to be a little slow with trends. Think about how long it took the iPhone to get simple things like custom wallpaper, custom SMS alerts, etc. fragmentation can be a killer as well as helper and i think Apple overkills the fragmentation at times. I'm just saying it's not so superiorly advanced over other phones that no one cares about the flaws that aren't that hard to point out. "Clean and simple" isn't always going to win the war.

I've been an apple loyalist for years, but you are coming across as an apologist. :)

The form factor is outdated. The most serious problem is the clunky, space wasting, physical home button. It is completely unnecessary and wastes a lot of space that could be used to employ a larger screen without an increase in the size of the phone itself.

Apple is back on it's high horse, trying to sue the competition out of existence instead of acknowledging, and god forbid, that they might actually have better products in some ways.

The main change I'd like to see is a better camera with a better flash. I know that this is an extra=ordinary challenge given the dimensions of the phone itself, but hey, we can all hope. :)

Let's see:
  • New screen with several new technologies possible including in-cell, IGZO and gorilla glass 2.

Yea they do make the product there but I don't know how make each part. So if one department only sees one thing and another sees something else it's possible to do. You can always have someone in on it too. Its not as hard as you think. Im not saying this is what they are or are not doing but its what I would do. Also if you tell everyone it comes out September when it actually comes out in October it gives enough time to change things up.

With the disappointment of 4S, I was really looking forward to a big improvement with the 5. Unfortunately, it looks like a very conservative upgrade without any new ideas in the form factor.

Hate to say it, but apple is getting staid in product development for the iphone.

I DO NOT want to buy a google phone, and probably won't, but gawd, the 5 looks weak.

I for one will make a boatload of money off this new stretch phone. I will short apple stock very heavily and make gazillions =)

Steve would have never allowed this, and after Tim saying he was doubling down on security, i seriously don't think this will be the new iPhone at all, we will all be amazed on Sep 12th.

What are you talking about? Are you trying to say things didn't leak when Steve was the CEO? You really can't prevent leaks, especially when you're a company like Apple that makes one the most popular pieces of technology in the world.

It looks like there are 2 cameras on the front. I know one of them is the facetime camera, but what's the other? An led light?
