How is there going to be enough room for the time and the carrier name, Bluetooth, VPN, orientation icons etc. on either side?

And to those wondering, they’re going to blank the cutouts using the black OLED filling both sides to disguise it. I’m not sure how they’re going to fit everything on there though.

I made this before they revealed they're bringing back the bar signals but they could stack it. Otherwise, I don't see any other possible way they're gonna fit everything into that tiny space.

I really hate to disappoint everyone including myself. We're not getting iPhone 8 but rather iPhone 7S. I don't see any reason Tim Cook will take a drastic change knowing him that sells is important for him. The iPhone 7 sells really good despite of predictions from so called experts. It does make sense that gearing up for a big change next year should be ready by now.

Ahhh I get it now...thanks for posting

The only 2 things that I don't like about these rumors are old and not worth hashing out again: Price and no Phono Jack.

Since Apple has apparently been able to install the home button/finger print scanner on the front -which Samsung was not able to do, at least for their new model- I am ok with the cut out, and that's IF it is really there. It may disappear when watching a video. Or it may not. Not a huge concern.

I still don't know if I can (personally) justify the price. $200 more and you can buy a new iMac or MacBook. But unless there is some horrible flaw that literally no one knows about right now, this phone will be very popular and deservedly so.

Since there needs to be an area without the display panel to house the camera(s), speaker, I would not be surprised if they wrapped the display around to the corners (like this mockup shows). It gives it better symmetry, vs. just cutting off the display horizontally which introduces a top area that's not proportionate to the lower section (like the current designs). I think Apple would _love_ (like most companies and consumers) a complete display surface, but the tech isn't there yet.

As far as the space being used, it seems like that's almost "free", like we'll get a standard rectangle in terms of developer accessible space, and those little corner sections will be reserved (in the API) for Apple, for special iOS notifications. Clearly, there needs to be more room - as someone pointed out - there's Location Services BT, DND icons, but maybe those all drop down into the "perfect rectangle" area on wake, or unlock[?] Maybe there will be a way to configure a widget-like icon, in that area.

Again, it's sort of, we can cut off the display, make it a horizontal line under the camera/speaker, or wrap it up around that area and do _something_ with it.

Interesting ...

With the lackluster reveal of iOS 10.4, I mean, 11, I hope they design the crap out of this. The 6 and 6S are not good designs.

Do we really think the sensors/camera/speaker will be designed to cut into the screen like that?!?

I guess you'll need to see it in person but it looks kinda ugly to me
If it really is an AMOLED display, than I could see Apple doing this but making the screen black in those spots. So for instance, the functional portion of the screen would end just below the cut out, and then the two ends that extend beyond would have a black background with white text just for signal strength and battery life. With the AMOLED screen, blacks would be much darker, potentially making it look like a solid bar at the top. The effect would be similar to the way they did the Touch Bar and Touch ID on the new MacBook Pros.

This way, Apple would be maximizing usable screen space by removing the small bar up at the top that currently exists on iPhones. Plus, if an app would like to utilize that space for whatever reason, it's still possible. Otherwise, the only other way I could see it working would be to keep a forehead just large enough for the speaker and camera, but then they would be tripling down on lost real estate because they would have to add a matching chin at the bottom AND keep the useless bar they currently have at the top.

So are the 4.7 and 5.5 inch models be mostly the same as the bigger OLED one? Other than OLED and the type of metal frame?

The 4.7" 7S and 5.5" 7S+ will likely be simple iterative revisions of the 7 and 7+. Apple isn't going to do a major redesign to their lower tier phones which would take away from the hype surrounding the 8. You'll see the new processor in those phones but otherwise they will probably be indistinguishable from the current models.

No they won't; they'll be mounted on a (shock, horror) thin bezel.

Every time Same concept with awful camera earpiece cutout. No original leak:(

Ugh! This camera ^^^and ^^^earpiece cutout from display looks awful.Hope Apple has something way nicer planned.:D

This is what the new iPhone is gonna look like. I'm not saying I'm a fan, but I think there's a 90% chance of this being the final product.

I told you so!

I came up with this design for the iPhone back in 2010!!

I also told yall to wait for the 8. Skipping the 7 was so worth it.

So you engineered this iPhone design back in 2010? And they just now are going to use "Your" design choice on the new iPhone?

Thats what you said about those antina bars in iphone 6, and there you go apple sold 80 million
You're argument is invalid. Apple could put a physical Touch ID smack in the middle of the display and still sell millions. They'll come up with some PR ploy about why that's the most efficient and market it as the higher end model. It's Apple, people eat up everything they throw out, people will still camp out to get it day one, including myself probably.

Very 'interesting'

Maybe that relates to the post someone made earlier in this thread about how you'd "go home" if you're in an app with no physical home button? Now you just hit the home button but without a physical button it'll be interesting to see how they do that. May the safe area is for that for a 3D touch to take you home.

Not sure that's a solution, like the current setup you just want to know that if you press somewhere its going to do what it says on the tin. like the physical buttons on the side you know what you get when you press them

Guess we'll have to wait and see

The more these leaks come out the less I've liked what I've seen. I really want to be hyped for this phone, but I can't help but think how much better the s8 looks. Hopefully the actual design will be better, but so far the design renders and bigger than 4.7 dimensions mean this phone is a no buy for me.
See, I love the dimensions. It's only slightly larger than the 4.7 while having a screen larger than the Plus. I think Apple's catering to everyone who wanted the large screen of the Plus, but didn't buy it because of the absurdly large form factor. The forehead and chin are the only reason I've never owned a Plus. The 8 is a must buy for me.

Looks alright. I knew that's why every border is super rounded in iOS 11.

Sorry but all these renders so far are showing such boring flat tired same-old designs. It's really time for some new bezels and a premium soft-touch back option at least! BlackBerry DID do some things right.
