Sweet. About to sell my iPad 2 today.

I'm really tempted as well, but when the 4S took a hit in battery life, it was the 1st time I have doubts about an Apple product.

A retina display on an iPhone makes sense because you hold it closer, while an iPad is held farther away. That said, I'll wait on this one, and if the battery is as strong, I'll pick one up.

Go back to ANY iPad resolution thread for the iPad 3 and do the research.

You made the claim. I feel it's your responsibility to back it up.

Do you realize how long it would take him to name everyone that said it wasn't possible?

first of all, there was a retina display on the iPhone 4... so if the display was to blame, the hit would have occurred on the 4, and not suddenly appeared on the 4S.

And there aren't battery problems anymore with the 4S. Very few people had some problems at release, they have been fixed.

I keep hearing ppl say that there is no real need for a tablet. Most home consumers just use a laptop to browsr the net and watch some movies and most of the time while they r on the couch so they r a better option than a laptop for them

Near sighted means you can see up close without corrective lenses, but not far away. You seem to be claiming the opposite.

I'm near sited and require glasses for distance vision, but reading with my glasses has never caused discomfort or migraines in the 31 years I've worn them.

I'm sorry to inform you that you are now only a few years away from suffering from presbyopia. Almost everyone gets it, which is why there is such a thing as reading glasses. For you, though, it's going to mean inconvenience or discomfort-- either carrying around multiple set of glasses or bifocals, the latter of which have their own unique sets of issues.

I, for one just remove my glasses altogether when reading. Retina display helps.

Excellent! Been waiting to read this headline for a while now... Credit Card warmed up... Really looking forward to March :)

Personally I call this all marketing BS. There is no way a 10" screen needs a higher resolution than my 26" monitor has.

Yeah it may make super tiny print more readable, but thats the whole reason why there is a pinch to zoom on tablets.

And forget playing games at that resolution.

Why would YOU want them prosecuted???? What on earth has it got to do with you? Also im sure Apple purposely leaks info time to time, beats any advertising agency. Not saying this was leaked by apple but they do it for sure.

He's clearly an ADF (Apple Defense Force) member.

I just hope the dimensions of the bezel and camera etc. are the same so the screen protectors from Zagg etc. are the same. Don't want that hassle again.

Oh I agree that the 4 was a fantastic device, as is the 4S, but the 4S was the first dip in a feature.

So does this mean it's a crack in the armor? I'm 50/50 on it till I actually see the device in function.

You also have a massive thread on the battery issues in this forum and Apple lists the drop in stand by time on their website. Also the retina display is different in the sense it's a new product being made for the iPad. Anything can go wrong with it, on any line of the production and use. Comparing it directly to the iPhone 4 retina display will always be wrong to some extent.

It's funny that there are still doubters.

Can't wait for this. The old iPad 1 will be a gift to my mom. She'll like it!

I don't need one of these, but I sure want one!!!!!

I have an iPad 1 - the iPad 3 is looking very tempting.

Me too :)

Oh, and I've got an early '08 MBP that I'm looking to replace with an Ivy Bridge Retina display MacBook Pro Air (or Air Pro)

Looks like Apple will be getting lots of my ££££ this year :p

It's good that it has retina... But what I wonder is, will there be any better apps than there already are (I find myself using iPhone apps more). All I use my iPad for is just surfing the web (reddit), and youtube. Imagine watching youtube and everythings all pixelated. T_T

Nice... Looking forward to the official iPad 3 release.

Let the tablet resolution wars begin!

Haven't read all 15 pages, so apologies if someone has already mentioned this possibility. What if apple release an ipad 3 with a standard display and a retina display iPad for $100-$200 premium, will we all be happy to pay up?

I think that's a possibility. The iPad 2 is already better than most tablets on the market. Why not keep it around and announce a iPad Pro with all the new features as a premium offering? It's time to segment the market. It's too big for one size fits all.

Retina iPad will be insanely great

I can't wait to get out of the poor house so I can afford an iPad 3!

On the UI Side, didn't MR post a story a while back of strings in 5.1 Beta that indicated the Rtina resolutions before any other indications came about?

This would seem that the UI will be updated. As an iOS developer I can say I will take advantage of the extra resolution in my apps, and I think other devs will to.
