Yes, but no AT&T LTE on the VZW iPad (and this question has been asked and answered in this thread and the other one numerous times).are you able to use AT&T's LTE iPad sim in Verizon's LTE iPad? or is Verizon's iPad only compatible with the 3G (HSPA+) sim?
Thanks for the link! I guess the idiots at at&t are using the TACs to differentiate between the iPad3,2 and the iPad3,3.
It's a real shame that apple didn't just make a single device for the US market. Guess I'll probably be exchanging my vzw for an att…![]()
Why?! The way I see it, unless your main service area has AT&T LTE already, the Verizon one wins every time if you're in a Verizon LTE area. How long do you plan on keeping the iPad? Given AT&T's historically slow rollout on 3G, we're going to be enjoying our iPad 5th generation by the time AT&T rolls out their LTE in my suburban neighborhood. Meanwhile I can enjoy my 25mbps+ speeds vs the 3.5mbps I got on my at&t '4g' hspa+ iPad before I returned it.
Has anyone tried putting a virgin AT&T "iPad" sim (specifically the iPad sim sold by AT&T) into the Verizon model and seen if they then get the option to buy data right on the iPad?
Agreed. But "technically" it is correct.I think the title of this thread needs to be changed.
This was reported in this thread several days ago that this doesn't work. In other words, you need to keep an iPad 1 or 2 handy to activate/reactivate the service.
Not exactly true. I believe if you have the IMEI of an ipad2 or ipad1, you can go online to AT&T and activate service (https://dcp2.att.com/OEPNDClient/) and selecting "get your pass". You can maintain service (cancel, renew, suspend) online. You don't need to be able to do it on the iPad itself. If you go dormant for more than 60 days, you'll have to reestablish an account by the online method. I don't believe you actually have to have an ipad1 or 2. You just can't use the IMEI number from a Verizon ipad3 because they are "blacklisted" on att's servers. It doesn't make much sense, since it just turns service away from AT&T. It must be part of the carriers' agreements with Apple to make the separate iPads uncooperative. Possibly because it's a one way street. You can buy a Verizon iPad and use AT&T but not vice versa.

Correct, just be careful that the person who has that iPad (or maybe you sold it to) isn't trying to use it as well because it is highly unlikely you can have two active identical IMEI's in their system in use at the same time.

Once you set it up using the "phantom" IMEI, you won't actually use that IMEI, you'll use the IMEI on the Verizon iPad. AT&T won't recognize that you're using a Verizon ipad since the service is already active.True, but I wonder -- isn't the IMEI used only to set up the account and activate the SIM, then when you connect the device sends its own IMEI? I'm not sure I see where there'd be a problem with duplicate IMEIs...
Unless either the signup process gets changed to flag when signing up an already active IMEI with a different ICCID and disallow it (or disable the other SIM)?
It will be interesting to see how this all works out in the end. It'd be to AT&T's interest to allow Verizon iPad IMEI's to sign up even if via the web interface.

There's no reason one device couldn't have two or more active sims associated with it.
With respect, while they don't do anything about it now, they very well will be able to recognize that you're using a Verizon iPad. The device registers the IMEI on the network and the IMEI includes the device type/model.
AT&T already uses this to nix the people trying to use their iPhone SIM in their iPad.
Whether AT&T will do anything about it in the future is unknown.
I was talking about the case where the IMEI you leveraged was active on the network as the same time as you were. Your example doesn't match this; of course you can use one device and swap SIMs. But you're not using both simultaneously.
My only point is there are a lot of unknowns to this scheme. It works now. Will it work in a month or two? No way to know.
My guess is that for so long as this adds revenue to AT&T and doesn't take it away, they'll not bother to close the "loophole".

Wow. That is a pretty big bummer that you cannot activate NEW tablet from AT&T on a Verizon iPad.
It seems they should allow this to make more money. A bit bummed about that.
Seems pretty stupid. I'd have to surmise that it involves an agreement between AT&T and Verizon to prevent poaching. Theoretically, any other GSM carrier should be able to register a Verizon iPad. Just not AT&T.
You can't access the ATT account from the VZW iPad for whatever reason but you should have no problem with the online account unless maybe it is down. Just checked and it works for me as of now (12:40PM EST).I have been using an ATT 3g sim with my Verizon iPad (3rd gen) that was previously used in my iPad since the 16th. I did not change the IMEI. It just worked so I did nothing. However, I cannot access my account from either the iPad or online. Was my account nixed? I just want to make sure it does not auto renew in a day or so.

Is it possible to get an AT&T mobile broadband device and use that device ID to get the SIM activated and then swap it into the iPad?
