Let me get this straight:

My family has a family plan. My mother and father have unlimited data plans on their iPhones.
I have a dumbphone. My brother also has a dumbphone.
My mother has an upgrade available on her iphone with ULD and so does my brother on his dumbphone.
I do not have an upgrade.

What do I do to get unlimited data on my (new) iphone?

"Touch" meaning activate on the line with the UDP. I preordered through Apple on my UDP (and selected the 2 GB/month option) but as far as I've seen/read I can cancel said preorder and keep the UDP on my line.

"Touch" meaning if you use the subsidy that comes with the UDP in any way, shape or form, including transferring it to another non-UDP plan, you will lose your Unlimited Data.

You can use a subsidy from another non-UDP line and use the phone purchased on that on your UDP and keep it.

If youve preordered using your UDP without knowing this, you can cancel the order (or refuse delivery). As long as you don't activate a phone (and return it) that was purchased with a subsidy on a UDP account, your plan wont change.

based on the enormous disparities in the info being provided by people in this forum, i don't think anyone can say anything for sure until tomorrow. don't count on anything.

I actually don't think there are enormous disparities of info. The majority of it has all been consistent with a few people saying otherwise.

No.

I just got off the phone with one of my buddies who is a manager at a Verizon store. He was outraged because he just found out that his store will NOT have ANY nano sims in stock tomorrow. He called up the chain to find out what happened and they said they didn't know that the knew iPhone would have a different sim and that he will just have to deal with it tomorrow.

Sounds like Verizon isn't ready for this launch. There's going to be some upset people tomorrow.

Most of the disparities comes from people asking unknowledgeable reps. This has been done before many times, but not every rep has handled this situation which is why you can ask 3 different online chats or phone reps and get 3 different answers, coming from someone who has done this, it works.

Yes if you want her to lose UD.

Yes, one of the consistent bits of information in this thread is DO NOT touch the upgrade subsidy on the ULD line.

Do not use it in anyway shape or form. If you do you will lose your ULD on that number.

I don't think there is a doubt this will actually work.. my concern is will they be able to make the switch over the phone or will I have to go get a new sim put in my phone. And if i do have to take it into the store, will verizon be able to fix me up on the spot? Or will verizon have to wait for sims to come in. If that happens, will i be stuck with my new IP5 with my sister's dumbphone number activated to it? Will my sister's dumbphone be rendered useless?

Whichever method you use, if something for some reason does not work and you have to get a SIM and the store has none, you can easily put your sisters dumbphone back on her line through the website, in-store, on the phone no problem.

ok i transferred my update on the unlimited line to a dumb phone and ordered.. guess I will be cancelling so I dont lose my unlimited. will verizon switch back the upgrade to the correct line after?

Would i just have to keep using my IP4 until the SIM came in? I'd almost rather just take the L and get the 2 GB plan. I don't use much data anyway.

I did some switching of phones a few months ago and i had to get a new sim card when i switched my galaxy nexus to a different line. I also have a bad feeling that stores will NOT have nano sims tomorrow so everyone in this thread will be hosed until they do.

This is my fear.

I talked to a VZW rep two days ago that said they could do it over the phone.. but i'm starting to doubt that. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I highly doubt these SIM cards are set to a specific #. I can see the serial on the phone being what triggers iTunes to activate it as a certain # and then it might write to the SIM from there or something. But these phones have been in the box do weeks now. If those sims have been flashed they can be changed.

Its what I have been saying this whole time.

Yes cancel that, and if you cannot cancel in time refuse the shipment. Not sure about the upgrade being switched back, i would say yes, or at worst you lose it for this go around, but if you want to keep your ULD then just forget that that number has an upgrade due.

so without going back through this whole thread, are you saying there is no way to keep unlimited data? based on the earlier pages i xferred my upgrade from my line (which currently has ULD with an iPhone 4) to the dumbphone line. then i ordered the phone on the dumbphone line. i planned to call and activate the phone on my line (with the ULD) tomorrow. are you saying that won't keep the unlimited data? and now the worry about the sim card and not being able to activate it on my line. sheesh. should have just ordered it on my line probably.

The method you just described will almost certainly remove your ULD once you activate it.

by transferring the upgrade from your unlimited line is like upgrading your unlimited line so yes your unlimited data is going to be gone if you activate it, unlimited data can be kept if you use an upgrade from a dumbline.

Quick question. If I have a family share plan with 2 smartphone, one with Unlimited Data and the 2nd with the 2gb plan, if I upgrade using the 2nd phone on the 2gb plan, then transfer the phone to the 1st number, I will be able to keep my unlimited data on line 1?

that's unfortunate. wish i had known that last week. it seemed like the method i described is how it was being sold here at that time. my other line did in fact have an upgrade as well (though without the additional $50 i got on mine). so i could have done that. oh well. my wife will probably be upgrading and getting a smartphone within the next month or so, so i probably would have had to make a switch eventually. as long as i can activate the phone tomorrow on my line despite ordering it on hers i guess i don't care.

What does his have to do with an unlimited data loophole????????

What does this have to do with it? Well, all of us that are utilizing this loophole are going to need a new sim if the iPhone 5 is like all of the other LTE phones. Verizon doesn't have them in stock for us. We are going to have to wait to utilize this loophole.
