thanks for the clarification though. will see what happens tomorrow. any chance i will have trouble activating it on my line? i assume i should call first and make sure they are able to switch before i try to activate it with itunes.
What does this have to do with it? Well, all of us that are utilizing this loophole are going to need a new sim if the iPhone 5 is like all of the other LTE phones. Verizon doesn't have them in stock for us. We are going to have to wait to utilize this loophole.

Can someone reply to this and make the letters big and bold?
1) YOU CANNOT TRANSFER AN ELGIBLE UPGRADE TO OR FROM A GRANDFATHERED UNLIMITED DATA PLAN
2) DO NOT START OFF A POST BY SAYING YOU HAVE LOOKED OR DON'T WANT TO
3) YOU MUST USE AN EXISTING NON-SMARTPHONE LINE WITH AN ELIGIBLE UPGRADE TO ORDER YOUR NEW IPHONE
4) STEPS ON HOW TO ACTIVATE PROPERLY WILL BE IN THIS THREAD TOMORROW
5) IF YOUR SCENARIO ISN'T LISTED IN THIS POST I CAN ASSURE YOU IT HAS BEEN HANDLED IN THE LAST 16 PAGES. TAKE 10 MINUTES TO READ THROUGH IT.
Can you go into more detail on what worked.![]()
ok i transferred my update on the unlimited line to a dumb phone and ordered.. guess I will be cancelling so I dont lose my unlimited. will verizon switch back the upgrade to the correct line after?
3) YOU MUST USE AN EXISTING NON-SMARTPHONE LINE WITH AN ELIGIBLE UPGRADE TO ORDER YOUR NEW IPHONE
Why won't it work with a existing upgrade eligible smartphone line that doesn't have Unlimited Data?

The way to do it is this...
1. Order the iPhone 5 on the line with the dumb phone that has the upgrade available
2. When you get the phone, activate it on the dumb phone line, accept the 2GB data plan, yadda yadda....
3. Go and log in to your verizon account online (Yes, you can do it online), and do a device swap, selecting the line with your new iPhone 5, and swap the iPhone with your old dumb phone. Cancel the 2GB data plan.
4. At the point, you're back with a dumb phone on the line, but you have in your hands a shiny new iPhone 5 that has no line attached to it.
5. Wait until the dumb phone is back working, then go to the line that you want the iPhone 5 to be in and swap devices (again, you can do it online).
6. Enjoy your new iPhone 5 in your unlimited data line.

just chatted with a rep
Me: I transfered my upgrade on an unlimited phone line to a phone with no data plan
Kirstyn: Okay
Me : I ordered the iphone 5 with that phone and was going to just transfer back to the unlimited line
Me : will I lose my unlimited?
Kirstyn: No you won't. as long as you didn't upgrade the line that has the unlimited data you would be able to keep it.
Me: I am sure verizon knows about this little loophole no?
Me: seems to easy to keep my unlimited
Kirstyn: Yes of course Verizon knows about this loophole.
Kirstyn: We suggest it to people from time to time.
It will he is just puffing his internet chest.
Inconsistent with what the majority of people have been told and one user who posted screenshots of how he transferred his upgrade and it did in fact get rid of the UDP the upgrade originated from.
Also stuff like this:
Me: I am sure verizon knows about this little loophole no?
Me: seems to easy to keep my unlimited
Always makes me think it's a sure fire way to make Verizon close said loophole, ha.
No puffing. Just sick of the same question posted twenty times a day. Hadn't considered that people actually use the 2gb plan.

I did some switching of phones a few months ago and i had to get a new sim card when i switched my galaxy nexus to a different line. I also have a bad feeling that stores will NOT have nano sims tomorrow so everyone in this thread will be hosed until they do.
Why won't it work with a existing upgrade eligible smartphone line that doesn't have Unlimited Data?
The point is that activating it will tie that SIM card to the dumbphone line. In order to change the phone to another line you need a new SIM card for that line. At least this has been necessary in the short history of Verizon's use of SIM cards.
I switch Verizon sims all the time. I even out my galaxy nexus sim in an iPad no problems ever.
