should not be a problem, i would call in advance of activating it.

What does this have to do with it? Well, all of us that are utilizing this loophole are going to need a new sim if the iPhone 5 is like all of the other LTE phones. Verizon doesn't have them in stock for us. We are going to have to wait to utilize this loophole.

What if Verizon said they won't have any for a few weeks. Meaning you have hold of the iP5 and the contract on the new is keeps going. Then they come out and say you can't do that. Man that would suck. I know I'm just putting fear into everyone. :D :D

Can someone reply to this and make the letters big and bold?

1) YOU CANNOT TRANSFER AN ELGIBLE UPGRADE TO OR FROM A GRANDFATHERED UNLIMITED DATA PLAN

2) DO NOT START OFF A POST BY SAYING YOU HAVE LOOKED OR DON'T WANT TO

3) YOU MUST USE AN EXISTING NON-SMARTPHONE LINE WITH AN ELIGIBLE UPGRADE TO ORDER YOUR NEW IPHONE

4) STEPS ON HOW TO ACTIVATE PROPERLY WILL BE IN THIS THREAD TOMORROW

5) IF YOUR SCENARIO ISN'T LISTED IN THIS POST I CAN ASSURE YOU IT HAS BEEN HANDLED IN THE LAST 16 PAGES. TAKE 10 MINUTES TO READ THROUGH IT.

I just spoke with a Verizon rep. She said that as soon as I accept the terms and conditions on the dumbphone line, its contract will be extended, but that I should not activate the iPhone on that line.

I can call them and have them move the iPhone 5 to my UDP line and they will do it through their system, and the UDP will stay intact. I'm going to plan on doing that tomorrow and see what happens.

Over/under half an hour on the phone before I get a rep on the line? We'll have to see I guess.

How can I transfer an upgrade from my ULD? LOL :D:D

Can you go into more detail on what worked.:D

I chatted with customer service yesterday. I have 4 smartphones and 1 dumbphone on my line. All smartphones have unlimited data and the dumbphone was the only phone that is upgrade eligible. The rep told me to order the Iphone 5 using the dumbphone line (don't transfer it over) and to sign up for the $30 2GB plan. Once I received the phone, cancel the 2 GB data plan and have the iphone moved to my desired phone number. She said I would not lose my unlimited data and my current plan will be unchanged.

ok i transferred my update on the unlimited line to a dumb phone and ordered.. guess I will be cancelling so I dont lose my unlimited. will verizon switch back the upgrade to the correct line after?

I would assume that if you return and don't keep the phone they would give you back your upgrade to the UDP line... although, I really don't know why you would need it as the way they've set it up, you can't use it if you want to keep your UDP.

Why won't it work with a existing upgrade eligible smartphone line that doesn't have Unlimited Data?

The number one key thing to remember is do not touch the upgrade on the ULD line.

Somehow get your hands on an iPH5 from a different line and then move iPH5 to the phone number that has the ULD.

Most folks on here have been suggesting using a line with a "dumb" phone so the ongoing monthly cost would be cheap. Because for some (or most) they are adding a line and the upgrade on the "added" line is how they are getting their hands on the iPH5

The way to do it is this...

1. Order the iPhone 5 on the line with the dumb phone that has the upgrade available

2. When you get the phone, activate it on the dumb phone line, accept the 2GB data plan, yadda yadda....

3. Go and log in to your verizon account online (Yes, you can do it online), and do a device swap, selecting the line with your new iPhone 5, and swap the iPhone with your old dumb phone. Cancel the 2GB data plan.

4. At the point, you're back with a dumb phone on the line, but you have in your hands a shiny new iPhone 5 that has no line attached to it.

5. Wait until the dumb phone is back working, then go to the line that you want the iPhone 5 to be in and swap devices (again, you can do it online).

6. Enjoy your new iPhone 5 in your unlimited data line.

Can anyone confirm this will work.. and it can all be done online?

The point is that activating it will tie that SIM card to the dumbphone line. In order to change the phone to another line you need a new SIM card for that line. At least this has been necessary in the short history of Verizon's use of SIM cards.

just chatted with a rep

Me: I transfered my upgrade on an unlimited phone line to a phone with no data plan
Kirstyn: Okay
Me : I ordered the iphone 5 with that phone and was going to just transfer back to the unlimited line
Me : will I lose my unlimited?
Kirstyn: No you won't. as long as you didn't upgrade the line that has the unlimited data you would be able to keep it.
Me: I am sure verizon knows about this little loophole no?
Me: seems to easy to keep my unlimited
Kirstyn: Yes of course Verizon knows about this loophole.
Kirstyn: We suggest it to people from time to time.

Inconsistent with what the majority of people have been told and one user who posted screenshots of how he transferred his upgrade and it did in fact get rid of the UDP the upgrade originated from.

Also stuff like this:

Me: I am sure verizon knows about this little loophole no?
Me: seems to easy to keep my unlimited

Always makes me think it's a sure fire way to make Verizon close said loophole, ha.

I am on a family plan. I have an upgrade available on my dumbphone. My mother has ULD on her iphone 4 and is willing to let me have her plan for a 2gb plan. Im buying iPhone 5 tomorrow.

How do i make this work?

I did some switching of phones a few months ago and i had to get a new sim card when i switched my galaxy nexus to a different line. I also have a bad feeling that stores will NOT have nano sims tomorrow so everyone in this thread will be hosed until they do.

I switch Verizon sims all the time. I even out my galaxy nexus sim in an iPad no problems ever.

i think the more posts that come with this thread the more confusing everyone is getting

didnt someone say that the sim cards arent tied to the number

and i am going to ask this question as i know its been asked before but i think this tread has gotten to the point where there have been questions being asked and there are lots of conflicting answers.

if the sim card is tied to the phone number if you get the phone on a dummy account sign up for the data plan at the apple store but dont turn it on. when you get home either call or go online and put in the esn number into the line with the unlimited plan and put the dummy phone esn back on the line that you upgraded it should all work or did i complete mess this up.

i think if we need to make 1 post with the right info with all possibilities so this thread doest become a 100 page thread
