I have some quick questions.
After seeing this thread it had me thinking whether or not to exchange my 64gb AT&T iPhone 4s for the off contract AT&T iPhone 4s. I renewed my contract and had to pay the increased price of $650. I decided not to go with the off contract one because it wasn't unlocked. Now that I see it is unlocked I feel $200 extra won't hurt so much.
Ok, now that I have the background stuff out of the way, I'll move on to my questions.
1. This one I might as well ask first since it would pretty much be the roadblock. If the answer to this is no, there is no need to bother looking at the other questions.
Can I exchange my iPhone that I ordered online at an actual retail Apple store? I did some brief research and it seems like no is generally the answer with some exceptions where they give you store credit. I already gave my iPhone 4 to a friend so I don't want to be without a phone while it's in transit.
2. If I do exchange it and pay for the off contract phone will my AT&T contract revert back to my previous one? Can this even be done all at the Apple store or do I have to involve AT&T as well? I would prefer not to deal with AT&T if at all possible.
3. Would the microsim that comes with the off contract phone work right off the bat or would I have to swap the chips?
I know my logic may be confusing to some but if you can, just go with it
Bottom line is that I'm a little sick of contracts and the sooner I can get out of them the better.
Thanks for the help.

On a [long] off topic side note about AT&T; I gave my old iPhone 4 to my friend and I merely needed to switch my individual account to a family account and add a line. Just add a line without purchasing any equipment as he already has the iPhone. All we needed was a microsim and a number with the appropriate data plan. The reps agreed that no contract would be required as we were not purchasing any equipment. I am saying 'I' a lot because it's my account, and I'm paying for his service.
Anyways, I'll get to the point. They showed me a two year contract I had to sign. I was flabbergasted. They said no contract required. I asked why am I signing this and he said that they cannot activate iPhones and provide microsims for them without a contract. He then went on to say that it will be immediately nullified in the system so it basically turns that line into a month to month deal. He said that i should get an email within 5 hours (last Friday). I never did, so I called back right before close and asked again why I have no contract related email. He said he submitted the paperwork and AT&T is probably back logged and could take a couple days. I plan to call once a day till this gets resolved. I got the reps business card and had two witnesses (not that it matters) hear him explain the situation and also the fact my receipt says $0.00 and no phone purchased. Hopefully I have some sort of leg to stand on. Either way, if it's at 20 days in and it still is not nullified then I will just cancel the line. I believe it says no ETF within first 30 days. Obviously I could have just walked away and not signed but the 30 "trial" made it acceptable to me. Anyone else think that signing a contract for a phone you provided is a little...odd?
AT&T can be quite irritating. All depends on the rep I guess.
