I gotta say supercaliber, you're being silly advocating a case and telling people to stop complaining. Not everyone likes or uses cases and the product is still faulty. Try to be less of a fanboi and focus on the issue at hand.

There are several people stating this is the new face of Apple. Microsoft and its Greed. Put products out, make cash and move on.

I personally see the ipad and iphone as two recent launches with issues. Unfortunately, these are their top dogs.

They are becoming too big and are not able to fine tune they way they once did when every release meant the world to them.

I have decided there is a conspiracy against Apple.

Class action suits
Crazy negative press over Antenna issue
Every person not in Apple camp hates Apple (droid lovers, netbook lovers, PC lovers, guys-that-live-in-caves-and-steal-dinosaur-DNA-from-parks)

The complaints have zero weight, they mean absolutely nothing compared to the shortcomings of the alternatives.

If its not a conspiracy then it is mob mentality, Salem witch hunting stuff.

Any psychiatrists out there that can explain this hater phenomenon?

turn off the fanboy switch?

Yeah i don't find those words materially different in this context.

EVO
A massive disappointment in design of its appstore, i tried it, I know
A massive disappointment in its do-everything UI, I tried it, I know
A massive disappointment in its stupid touch controls, press and hold for everything
A massive disappointment in its battery life. SERIOUSLY one charge lasted 40 MINUTES!!!
A massive disappointment in how it fits in your pocket, every person I met wondered if I was happy to see them
A massive disappointment in its reliability, apps hang constantly, restarted EVO at least a dozen times in three weeks, lags terribly
A massive disappointment in its touch technology, just doesn't work like an iPHone sorry droid lovers (LAG), Iphone owns touch
The HTC Evo 4G isnt a Droid, btw. And your opinions arent facts.
1. Apple's App store is unnecessarily controlling and restrictive. The Android Market Place provides more freedom and room to innovate.
2. Apple's UI is dated and old, its essentially the same basic UI since the first UI, a home screen with multiple pages for other apps.
3. Apparently you haven't noticed that theres press and hold for the iOS 4 too.
4. The battery life isnt 40 minutes long, if your going to spew crap then make it believable.
5. It has a bigger screen 4G, and 8 mega-pixel rear camera, a 1.3 mega-pixel front camera, and dual LED flash. A larger face is to be expected.
6. The same could be said for the iPhone 4, can you honestly say that you have never had any problems even software related with your iPhone. Just search the forum, heck Google it and you will see.
7. What wrong with the touch screen technology? You touch it and it responds.

The iPhone has a whole list of shortcomings too, ex: the notification system, custom ringtones, and ...... getting a signal when held in a completely natural position.

There most certainly is a conspiracy against Apple. Problem for the OP and a lot of others is that it's totally justified as long as Apple and it's CEO feel compelled to lie about their products and refuse to address problems with those products. When Tylenol was killing people they didn't reply with "If you don't like it, take it back". When Toyota discovered a problem with the accelerator they didn't reply with "If you don't like it, take it back". When Pintos started burning when rear-ended Ford didnt reply with "If you don't like it, take it back". When Microsoft discovered Vista was a turd in almost every way they didn't reply with "If you don't like it, take it back". Nope, only Apple, and they've done with every Apple product I've bought because they've all had problems.

I don't think that that's an acceptable solution for an expensive device. I bought a case as well, but that should not be required for the phone to work as it's supposed to. The onus is on Apple, as it would be for any other company, to make good with the customer for selling a flawed product.

They will provide vouchers I think. I agree it is not the best of scenarios, but really not an issue for almost everyone. I think that haters piling on is just mob mentality. I also believe that there are many leaders of the mob, you just have to know where to look.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

Conspiracy? No.

It is true that many people obsess against Apple. It is also true that many in the media smell blood in the water. Can it be argued that hearing of a problem, folks with one-off defective units assume that their problem MUST be part of the original flaw? Sure, that happens with every product recall.

But that doesn't make this issue less-bad, or make a flaw "less" of a flaw.

I say this as one who argued "Just use a case like I always have." and I have a hard time avoiding arguing with hyperbolic people, but Apple's response has been crappy.

So while I'm loving my encased iPhone-4, and do discount at least 50% of this hype, hate, and frenzy, there is a problem, and Apple needs to implement a solution, like RFN.

Everytime I check GSMArena, I see a bunch of haters on the comments. iP4 even gets scores lower than 7. Shame.

I think Apple haters spend more time on the Apple messageboards than Apple fans.

I hated Kobe Bryant for a time, and look how far he recovered after the rape case and Shaq beef. Face it, when something is popular, it is also bound to get hated too. Envy. Jealousy. Overanalyze every single flaw and then blow it up to extreme proportion. LeBron James is getting hated and bashed now and he was a media darling before. The American way. Raise them up, bring them down. You don't think God or The Pope don't get ridiculed either?

If you hate Steve Jobs (a man you probably never met in person), then hate him. If you want to hate Apple zealots, hate them too.

If you want to justify your 3GS or Android phone purchase or can't afford a iP4, continue to hate then. Who is the one really insecure that you need to troll here?

Learn to separate the device with them. I love the iPhone 4. After reading all the negative press, nothing changes. For a time, I hated Apple. I hated Jobs. I hated their fans. And to this day, I sometimes still get pissed off at them all. I don't always agree with their philosophy and closed structure.

But my iPhone 4 has been good to me and that is matters most to me. So none of it is a problem. Some of the media and public outcry is for people to write articles and help sell Droids. Perhaps employees from other carriers.

The PlayStation 2 had the DRE and Xbox 360 had the ring of death. They both still sold well. This is still new. Let it get old. Then when the iPhone 5 comes out, watch people compain that the material sucks or the battery life got worse because it got smaller. Wash, rinse, repeat.

A cynic's life. Complacent and an opinion already meaningless and based on hate.

I've been an Apple fan for a long time but even I know there is an issue with the iPhone 4. Actually there's issues with all Apple products from the start and I accept that, which is why I wait. It just so happens I was in luck that I'm waiting for the white iPhone 4, which I hope is problem free. And since I don't have one yet, the antenna issue seems to affect some phones, which I suspect to be a combination of a weak PA and the antenna system. I wish Apple would do a recall on the suspect lots already and call it a day. Instead they keep quiet and in hopes that people will forgot. I guess Jobs forgot that Apple fans are quite different.

This is nothing but a witch hunt with haters who can't handle Apple's succes piling on. The jokes on them though, Apple doesn't have to say or do anything. In a week or two all will be forgotten and iPhone sales will have surpassed 5 millon units making it one of the most succesfull products ever. This time next year Apple will be one of if not the biggest corporation in the world leaving MS, Google and every other half ass tech company in their wake. Some people just can't handle that.

I'm not going to get into the debate of just how widespread this antenna issue is. My wife and I both have iPhone 4s, both work fine and neither have had any dropped calls.

I disagree that there is a conspiracy against Apple, but I will say this - the media as we know is no longer an objective investigative body. One outlet (no matter how small or niche) reports an issue and the mainstream media jumps all over it without due diligence of verifying or disproving any of the facts.

One example is Sandra Bullock. She has been my favorite actress since the early '90's when her career really started. Like other actresses, Meg Ryan for example, she was immediately typecast as a marginal actress despite a broad range of roles. The Blind Side comes out, yet another of a slew of athlete/mentor movies and for some reason it was singled out as her greatest role, she wins an Oscar and her husband turns out to be a douchebag. Suddenly you couldn't read, listen to or watch anything entertainment-related without hearing about her.

This same thing is happening with the iPhone 4 in an opposite sense. Apple, which has normally received positive attention now may or may not have an issue with one of their products is the lead tech story on almost every news outlet.

I'm sure there is other tech news out there, just as there was plenty of entertainment news months back when it was all about Sandra Bullock, but like I said - the media is a joke now. The comparison between Apple and Volkswagon is valid in the sense that neither company had received much criticism, but it doesn't surprise me that it was taken further and the actual issues were compared.

Of course, with fanboys like you, Apple can release a brick, call it an iPhone, and you'd still happily shell out $600 for it.

There's such a thing as bad press. Period. And Apple TRIED to spin the issue and failed with it's "letter." They are in DAMAGE CONTROL mode. They can't spin the situation positively at this point - they can only control and equalize.

Again - and ego aside - with over 20 years of Marketing and PR experience, I have plenty of experience in all aspects.

But people, like yourself can believe anything you want - especially when it's a clever soundbite/quote.

Damage control? I haven't heard anything from them in over a week. I'm running out of time (30 days), if they can't fix it with a software update then I'm returning it. The non-phone part is awesome compared to my 3gs, but it is a iPHONE and I need a PHONE.

The reception issue is real. Yes, a case masks the problems (kind of) so that is usable. I shouldn't have to put it in a case to use it. That is a BS solution for a real problem. If you've bought that BS from Apple, you deserve to have a phone that doesn't work right.
But the biggest problem is the proximity sensor. If yours isn't having the proximity sensor issue, your using it wrong!

There was a time when Nintendo got bashed in 1993 for not adding blood in Mortal Kombat. Then their mistake and loss of 3rd party support by sticking to cartridges with the N64. GameCube's sales were also lackluster compared to their NES/Famicom and SNES/Super Famicom. Before the Wii, they were no longer #1 in sales.

Sony went to the same ridicule after selling the PS3 for $600. This was right after selling buttloads of PS1 and PS2's. Now settling for 3rd place. I was one of those complainers. They got bashed for using Blu-Ray as a Trojan horse when people didn't want it. Now Blu-Ray has become the standard for HD movies and sales have picked up with a lower price point.

Every company has their ups and downs. That's life.

Right now, Apple is at a level that no matter what they do, they will be criticized for it. Damn if you do, damn if you don't. The media is known to crucify anything and everything. Remember how popular Obama was two years ago?

People still like Google right now. Wait when Android hits a very critical stage in popularity. Expectations get higher that will never be reached. Google too will be criticized and bashed. It happened to Microsoft too. Nokia is also getting bashed by their own followers.

Not one popular company is immune to hate or criticism. Just like most celebrities. Each have made mistakes in their history. How is that any different than our own lives? There is no sacred cow in this industry. Nothing is untouchable.

Yeah, that's right, apples going to be soooo successful and destroy the competition. And in the offseason, we'll get all the big free agents and our dynasty will be the greatest ever, look out 20's and 60's yankees cause here comes apple!!! And in the playoffs this year, Microsoft and google are going down!!! Goooooooo apple!!!! Woot! Woot! We're number 1!!!!! Bringing home the trophy this year!!!!

Why should AT&T pay for any of it? This isn't their problem.

I think AT&T has a vested interest in keeping Iphone customers happy. They might even approach Apple and offer some $$$.

I don't think AT&T is to blame unless they were involved in testing but if you were AT&T right now wouldn't you be interested in the success of your biggest cellphone partner?

Hey Sam, you've had a galant few pages of posts but it's time to walk away from this train wreck of a thread. You really don't need to waste any more of your life trying to talk sense to a couple of witless fanboys. Thanks for fighting the good fight though dude.
