I thought the new Blackberry OS 7 broke sales records when it was released? Don't tell me that now it's not true. And why on earth did they spend all that time on BB OS7 , non upgradeable design for the BB OS7 Phone? And now they are saying, hey guys, we goofed, just hang in there for a couple of more years while we get our act together. In the meantime, you can keep buying the outdated model knowing we never should have made it in the first place. We care about our pro customers!!

you know what bothers me.

I've replaced some words. Don't tell me this doesn't sound like familiar territory in the tech industry.

I suspect some major surprises over the next couple of years.

- Return of the 17 inch MacBook Pro model in 2012-15 style chassis
- 4k OLED display
- Infinity style display except above web cam bezel
- Return of USB A in addition to two USB C ports
- Return of ports such as HDMI and SD Card reader
- Slightly thicker 2012-15 style chassis to accommodate larger battery, DDR4 RAM
- Back to using the latest nVidia Graphics
- Touch Bar dropped, return of function keys, Touch ID stays
- Butterfly keys dropped in favor of older style keyboard
- Return of smaller track pad
- Return of the back lit Apple logo
- Return of boot chime

If only ...

Would be awesome if iPads just became the display and iOS on the go...and EGPU support...
I bought a couple of PCs for VR and work...and am actually loving it so far. Editing video on a tablet is pretty great. But it is limited...but a tablet and workstation is a great pair.

We made a video response...and WonderCon...because you need a balance in life.

Seriously. if its 2019 why should they even bother? Anyone "pro" that actually needs one will have had to have moved over to Windows or Linux .What a sad, sad joke.

Within the last 24 hours, the direction of Apple has changed... and I like it.

Apple have realised that if Pro users switch to Windows machines for work, they will likely switch their other devices as well.

This matters because Apple would lose enterprise contracts at businesses, universities, and even schools. There is no point training kids in a Mac ecosystem when the businesses that will employ them want them to have PC software proficiency.

Also, losing pro users also means apple would lose the film industry and all of the free product placement they get in movies and TV shows when Props buyers just use their own computers as props to save money.

I think its too little too late for Apple. Microsoft will only be further along by the time the new Mac Pro and iMacs get released that it will be hard for Apple's computer line to still be relevant. A lot of the pro people jumped ships and moved on from Apple. By the time all of this stuff gets released it will be priced quite high and most of the Pro users who did jump ships to other hardware will already be content with whatever it is their using.

Personally the only thing that has me a small bit hype is the display Apple plans to make, other than that I'll be picking up one of the new 32" 4K LG displays as soon as its available within the coming weeks.

More like they tried to shove it down our throat but we chose to goto bed without supper.

I know it's not MacRumors unless people are snarky, but this is Apple listening and correcting. They tried to push forward and release the thing that nobody realized they wanted (which is usually pretty successful for them), but they were going the wrong direction with Pro products and now they're course-correcting.

2019??!? Anything beyond spring 2018 is unacceptable. Technically we're already in unacceptable territory. 2019 is absolutely insane. What pro user is going to wait that long? Maybe they'll keep bleeding users, see the crap sales numbers, and then justify not releasing it or releasing any more after the new one based on the poor sales numbers that they are artificially creating! Circular logic is fun.

I don't get what would take them so long. Design constraints for a big desktop are easy compared to the iPhone or Watch. Can't imagine why it would take longer than a few months. Just base it mostly on the old tower design, but smaller since we don't need all the optical drives and large 3.5" internal drives. Make it Jet Black. If it's truly modular and will take two years, then they must be designing some kind of proprietary system where you buy little component boxes that slide into a frame or something, and that's not what pros want either!

I think our best bet is to go the hackintosh route, or for those who can stomach it (not me), windows. Personally I'm going to at least wait and see what the "Pro" iMac entails as I don't need ridiculous specs. I'll be due for an upgrade at work, and if it's good I'll get one for home.

Introducing the all-new 2019 Mac Pro Modular™

Actually, the news over the past two days have me quite happy. Skeptical because I have been bitten too many times in the past, but happy.

Now Apple, make it happen!

2019. Christ.

This essentially proves Ive and Co. haven't even been designing successors to the Mac Pro in the background, over the past four years.
Exactly. While many are falling over themselves in praising Apple for "listening" they seem to ignore the fact that Apple has been doing nothing in moving the Mac Pro forward over the intervening years.

Besides, why is Apple sitting back and waiting to "hear" from customers? Why aren't they moving forward and leading? Is dragging Apple kicking and screaming something that the company should be applauded for?

It is courageous to call feedback from users "negativity"
o_O

Yep, it means they really don't believe the feedback, so their talk is just talk to quite the negatively. We'll see. I hope its is true, but I cannot last much longer with my current hardware and if Apple does not sell what I need, I'll go elsewhere regardless of the pain. I don't pay 25 to 40% extra to buy Apple products that are not what I need.

Just make macOS open source so we can install it on any hardware we want. If Apple doesn't want to be in the PC business anymore just let other companies handle Mac hardware design and manufacturing.

This is by far the best suggestion I have see on MacRumors. I does not take a rocket scientist to buy an existing motherboard and make macOS work on it, then bolt into a nice slick Ive designed enclosure. Just make Ive design it to fit the motherboard.

LOL This has happened already years ago.

Apple have realised that if Pro users switch to Windows machines for work, they will likely switch their other devices as well.

Why did it take Apple *3* years to figure out that something was wrong with their top of the line computer?

We figured it out 2 years ago when we had to switch to underpowered iMacs because the power/cost of the new MacPro was just too much.

We just bought our first PC for VR work because we can't wait another year.

I can still see uncle Phil telling everyone at 2013 WWDC 'we can't innovate anymore, my ass'!
Seems everyone at 1 Infinte Loop has been busy the last year picking out carpet and office equipment for the new spaceship.

I think you're right on the mark here.

Can't help but thinking that Ive and Co. spent all their time making sure the Spaceship campus is something to behold, and very little time on designing new hardware.

Yup. For Apple/Tim Cook to think they haven't all but destroyed their reputation as a pro hardware maker is delusional.

Those stupid overpriced MacBook "pro" machines, no iMacs, and 6 years between Mac Pro updates.

This is what happens when you put a purse saleswoman in charge of retail.

I'm embarrassed to defend this company anymore.

It certainly suggests a very reactive strategy with limited forward vision beyond the mobile platform. They're a mobile phone manufacturer and all their energy appears to be focused in that direction. Most of their output now seems to be mobility focused delivered by iPhone orientated design teams hence the obsession with 'thinness' and form over function.

I still use my 2006 Mac Pro! I am a hobbyist though.

I was finally doing some research to look into getting new stuff and then I read this article. Damn. I went through years of hating Apple, swearing I'd never get a Mac again. I kept saying Premier was going to be my next editing program, but then Adobe switched to strictly-subscriptions (a payment system that simply does not work for me) and that made me angrier than anything Apple ever did, so I guess I'll just get the new machine when it comes out next year or the year after that... haha.
