No idea yet. Just be ready on Black Friday if they do so... it's only 2 weeks away...

They've only done one year of Black Friday that I am aware of, and they sure won't annouce it in advance...

Thanks, I'll be ready. Actually, it really just cancels out CA's ridiculous sales tax of 8.25%. I could just order out of state now if I really wanted one that bad. Just looking for an excuse to upgrade, my g4 still has plenty o' life in her.

I Think The Double Size 4MB L2 Shared Cache Makes A Big Performance Difference

Thank you.. I'm glad I'm not the only one who realized that he was doing that. :) Just seemed a bit odd to me he was pushing the higher cache as the best feature of the upgrade, but then really dismisses the benefits of the FSB in whatever the next revision is.
OK look. I'm not "Pushing" anything. If I have a choice of a faster FSB or double the L2 Cache I am going to take the 4MB L2 cache no matter what anyone else posts here. Got it? I AM NOT PUSHING ANYTHING. I am telling you what I think matters. I don't think the FUTURE 20% faster FSB will make any difference because:
The front side bus increase will provide little performance improvement. (Conroe benchmarks at 1333 MHz show 2-6% at most.)

And I DO think the NOW double size 4MB L2 shared cache does. Period.

Yep, hard to avoid that CA tax. Ordering out of state might be a problem if you want the system soon... especially if you want a BTO.

Here's hoping Black Friday is a good Friday...

20 minutes is right, I feel Intel was fast on the trigger this year. However, I don't know where you've been. 3.0GHz is not the way to go since that goes against Intel/Apple's goal of less power consumption and less heat created from the processors. The more cores, the more tasks it can do. If you like those big numbers, go to the soon-to-be released Mac Pros.

PS: If you wanna make a signature, go to the User Control Panel (CP) and make one instead of wasting your time plugging it in after every post manually.

Yeah for the record that is my signature.... I do not plug it in every time

Booting Into Windows XP Is The Easiest Way To Tell If It's Early N

I got the 2.0 white one, dont know how to check what wireless card
I suspect some fiddling with Bootcamp which is a little beyond the pail to answer my question :)

Anyone know of an easy way?

I think system profiler will only report that it's an "Airport Extreme" card.
Easiest way is by booting into Windows XP.

Edit: Further to that thought, AidenShaw, that just means that the only thing missing for 64 bit support is for memory spaces over 4GB? Do you know if there is any other shortcoming on the 64bit front by using the 945 chipset? (From my reading I'd say not). Curious minds etc :) ...
It's a limitation of 4 GiB (well, really about 3.4GiB usable) of Physical RAM.

A 64-bit program (on Napa) can use more than 4 GiB of virtual memory. While of course, actively using more than 4 GiB will keep the pagefile disk(s) very busy - sometimes it is useful to scatter bits and pieces of a program across a very large memory space.

The main 64-bit goodness, obviously, is that you'll be able to run the soon-to-appear x64-only applications that will show up after 10.5 is realeased. (A secondary, related, goodness is that many of the applications that ship both x86 and x64 versions will be faster in 64-bit mode due to the extra registers and other changes in the x64 architecture.)

Tiger is already 64 bits if you use a G5. But ALL core MacOS X functionality is still compatible with x86 and G4 users.

The x86 line transitioned from 16-bit to 32-bit starting with the 80386, in 1986.

Most consumer software didn't go exclusively 32-bit until Windows 95 came out, almost ten years later. And even then, 16-bit equivalents of many core products continued to be available for Windows 3.1 users for quite some time.

(In 1998 Internet Explorer 4 was released. There was a 16-bit version of released for Windows 3.1.)
Well if you're waiting on Microsoft's Timeline, then you better keep on waiting.

That'd be great and all if I were a student, but I'm not. Question still stands, does Apple allow 10% off CTO orders on black friday or is it only on in stock retail store purchases?

Thanks!
Mandoman

find your old alma mater online and buy through the online store for edu discounts, OR dig up that old college ID and go to a retail store, just tell em you had the afro cut a couple weeks back ;)
since bf is only 2 weeks away i guess you should just wait... but i looked up the BF sales, and in the past it was on whatever was in retail stores only... but then again alot has happened this year that was completly different from the past

I just order my Macbook core 2 duo 2.0ghz

i this as a replacement from my g4 12 inch i pay 150 dollar for the upgrade from the first version macbook to the macbook 2.0ghz :)

In Australia: Just ordered MB - BLK this morning and already have shipping confirmation this afternnon for item to arrive tomorrow (Fri) otherwise Monday I suppose.

Looks like the MB was picked up by courier from the customs office. Ordering default setup obviously quickest.

Sorry all who are still waiting :) my MB C2D has just been delivered..... aaah nice.

it's right in front of me

I have a brand new macbook sitting in front of me. I strolled right into the Apple Store today (in Albany, NY) and picked one up.

Now to try to figure this little ditty out! :D

casing still cool during transfer

Just transferring personal data (over the last hour) from old PB12inch via the Firewire routine and I am surprise how cool the new MB is.
Here's hoping that during actuall usage it still keeps its cool :)

Yeah, 64-bit hurts over in the Windows camp.
But at least the Windows Camp *has* 64-bits. And *has had*, for a couple of years.

It's so funny to see Apple fanbois crow about how much better the "sometime in the future" Apple support for 64-bit will be....

Meanwhile, every online shopper at Dell needs to check the "64-bit Windows" or "32-bit Windows" to get to the second page of the online ordering system. (Of course, the masochists have the option of "64-bit Linux" or "32-bit Linux" ;) )

Get it right Sir: all they had was an OS, no apps... If anybody has bragging rights it the Linux group... They have had a 64bit OS and apps... what's truly funny is the reason you are here...?

Why gripe!? I don't understand, I've been using x64 since it came out. I won't even go back to 32 bit Windows. I have had NO problems with ANY software... 64-bit OR 32-bit. I get access to all 8gb of memory (I do need that much btw), and all my devices work fine (even motorola razr..which some think is impossible).

There is much more software available for Windows x64 than the current version of OSX (especially since you can use 32-bit software). So.. not sure what the big complaint is here. You're running OSX which is obscure enough, and complaining about the lack of support for Win x64?

That said I've added the MB to my cart and will probably at least attempt to install x64 Windows for the hell of it. Has anyone verified the "n" yet or is that still up in the air?

Haha, yeah, I'm in St. John's.

There's more than one way to take your comment! If you mean you think Cape Breton and Newfoundland are bad places, I disagree. I can't vouch for Cape Breton (I drove through it once), but St. John's is a great city, imho.

If you meant that shipping would take a long time, you're right!

I'm going to say you meant the latter, but the wink makes me think otherwise..

Well, yeah, while I obviously do feel for you as it seems as though you're going to be the earliest adopter who recieves their macbook the latest, my comment was my typical hidden subtle humour that us Canadians are typical of making. I know the stereotypes associated with those that live in either Cape Breton or Newfoundland, so I was kind of playing off of that. I'm from a small maritime town myself (pop 1600), so I'm really just making fun of myself.

Never been to Newfoundland myself, but have a lot of friends from there. Never met a Newfoundlander or Cape Breton'er that I didn't like. We're just friendly folk out here on the east coast ;) No real offense directed towards Newfoundland, especially St. John's. Looking forward myself to experiencing St. George Street. Most bars per square mile? C'mon, that should attract any decent person who knows what's good for them. So yeah, my comment was more directed as a subtle dig at those in Toronto and Montreal more than anything. So maybe we get our macbooks delivered a week later than those in Toronto, but its not like we're still wearing acid wash jeans and dying our hair platinum blonde (or are we?).

Crucial question:

Should I go for a MBP CD 2.0GHZ 512 MB RAM(which I can get new for $1,685) OR
New MacBook C2D 2.0 GHZ 80GB HDD, 1GB RAM, which is $1,299.

I have to buy from a third-party website because a company I work for is financing it for me, so those are my options. There's a $1,500 limit - and I can go over if I pay it right then, and I don't have $400 extra to get the C2D MBP.

I game a bit, so I just want some opinions. ;)

Hmm... tough choice :p

Personally, im going to go with the macbook C2D. I mean, ive seen how laptops game, and generally they dont last too long with the way current games are. My advice on a gaming laptop is go big or go home haha. Considering your budget (which is very close to mine, haha) just go with the macbook!

Do you want something bigger? or smaller? Once again, im going to want to throw this thing into my bag and go places... and the 13" size is ideal for me.

On top of all that, i think its necessary to get applecare. I was never a big fan of warranties, but lets just take a moment to remember all the fried logic boards the iBooks have had in the past :(

So $1299 + apple care + tax is your budget

well, I wiuld rather have 32 bit of good OSX

than 64 bits of MS' cr@p ;)
