I am not panicking but is their any app out there that for the end of the world or an outbreak ? Not for it but a list to make sure you have everything you need. I know what most people are going to say you should already have that or something. We do I am just double checking.

Do you all think people who can work from home are lucky ?

To be honest, I don’t prefer working from home [Its Definitely not cracked up everybody makes it appear sometimes]. I’ve moved some of my remote work responsibilities to my home, but the majority of what I do is ‘field’ work. I enjoy being out, moving/traversing around, It’s actually refreshing to not be confined into an office where it’s mundane/stagnant, when I would rather Be proactive V.s.Just sitting in an office chair all day. For Some of us, we have the best of both worlds where I can work from home, but I also have the opportunity to travel/work ‘outside’ the office meeting new people, detail work, follow up procedures with clients and seeking new Ways to enjoy working In the ‘outside’ environment as well.

Well you can either punch in a search query like

what to put into a go bag?
what to pack in a bugout bag?

which will fetch up all sorts of blogs of people who do keep go-bags or bugout bags, they usually include their own experiences and a few external links as well

Or... try this link

I removed the FEMA link from my post because I got a 404 error on it which made me laugh all things considered. I'll have to look it up and put a good link back in there for FEMA.

EDIT: well there's this... although it mostly refers to the ready.gov link

@A.Goldberg, I wonder it this multiplies faster than typical flu? An article said a single infected cell can produce a million copies of the virus before it dies. The reason I ask it that I’ve read that with rapid multiplying, if I understand it correctly, it’s the body’s immune system reaction that adds to or makes it lethal, if your immune system goes nuts and over responds, your immune system will be attacking and weakening your body.

I think this virus has been spreading quietly concealing itself as seasonal flu but deadly which makes you wonder if its a man made or nature?
According to NCBI / NIH the novel coronavirus is very similar in nucleic sequences to the SARS virus which might be the reason why the vaccine makers have been able to quickly come up with vaccine testing.

The scary part is that the viral reproductive rate R0 (R naught) is 2.2 which is very infectious like polio....

With that high of a infectious level, it's easy to see why closing down crowded events, social distancing and other measures are being implemented - to give more time for researchers and vaccine makers to come up with an immunizing agent...

we have 2 people "panicking" in the office. of course the sales guys want to work from home, the power point presentation that was linked was printed and posted around the shop.

*****As we are all aware, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has become a very serious issue that we all need to be well aware of and take appropriate precautions. Below are suggestions made via a webinar I attended given by our insurance company. I have also attached the power point slides should you choose to review them.

  • Relay to employees the importance of washing hands thoroughly and using hand sanitizer in addition to that.
  • Remind employees about respiratory etiquette (i.e. sneezing into crook of arm rather than hands)
  • Social Distancing – avoid gatherings or meetings when not completely necessary. Have employees join in via phone from their offices if possible.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel.
  • Although mask use has been deemed as not totally useful, there is information that using a mask may at least keep people from touching their faces.
  • Remote work/ working from home is encouraged where possible.
  • Splitting shifts is suggested to avoid larger groups of people gathered at any given time.
  • Cross training is advised in the event of losing employees to quarantine or sickness.
  • Make an effort to wipe down often touched surfaces such as desks, tables, phones, door handles, etc.

In addition to the above suggestions please be aware the due to overwhelming demand, supplies such as cleaning wipes, hand sanitizers and bottled water are quickly becoming unavailable for us to order. Please make an effort to bring a large refillable water bottle from home to take advantage of the filtered water we have in the kitchen. If possible to find hand sanitizer, please bring a bottle for your desk. ******** will reimburse you for the hand sanitizer as we are currently unable to find resources online.

We can all do our part to keep our offices as safe as possible.

696 confirmed cases on cruise ships o_O
I bet cruise prices are at a record low right now.
People are still going on cruises, if and when this is over the cruise lines will do a special deal to get cutomers back once more.

Interesting HOUSTON Rodeo CX, my guess without attendance, customers buying tickets, there wouldn’t be prize money, no need to compete, different than NCAA.
Sports are not a necessity but health is, this may not be the only virus or plaques coming are way (there may be more in the future) and people need to understand that more cancellations of sporting events and amusement parks like Disney and the cinemas etc will occur...this virus is telling people there are more important things besides always enjoying ourselves and having fun...we should all prepare for the future and spend our money on necessities only.

This actually made be part of the plagues of scripture even the locusts are causing havoc.

There are something's people cannot pack with a bug out bag because it may be medical devices which need to be attached to them and constantly changed and there is not enough room

A shortwave (a good one with a nice tuner for reception) receiver is one to pack in that bag.
Here is one, it's a nice radio with NOAH weather alert and SSB for listening to what may be important HAM radio communications.

This is another great shortwave radio...there are others at this site too for less cost but not as good in the tuner department.

@JagdTiger -- You make valid points in your post.

However to me it's sort of counterintuitive for us to be talking about bugout bags and go bags in a time when the US government (well the state governments anyway) have focused at least in part on asking people to more or less shelter in place during the belated US effort to mitigate effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

I had responded to the inquiry that the other member had posted but only because sure, it's always a good idea to have a go-bag packed, even if when push comes to shove, most of the people I know who have ever had to leave their home over flood or fire basically fled with their children, pets and car keys. Other people's mileage may vary and as I said, it's best practice always to have a bag of (personally considered) essential items thought out and packed beforehand. It's not like one has time to sort that out in the moment of a sudden need to depart one's home.

But I didn't intend to drag this thread off its stated purpose. So probably we need to respect this thread's purpose and leave bugout bag / go bag discussions for some other thread, no?

Friend spent the morning stating he woke up with a cold and afraid it’s the virus...took me two hours texting back and forth to just call his boss and see if he’s wanted in. Walked 3 miles in the rain to avoid the T (can’t blame him), got there and has been fine... he and his other half also have an entire room full of sanitizer and TP. /facepalm

Meanwhile, I’m the one with a compromised immune system and lumped in with high risk section and not a single worry. Not a question of if I get it, but more when at this point. I, too avoid the metallic Petri dish called the MBTA. It’s dirty and disgusting without a pandemic virus!

In an effort to bring some humor and positivity in at work today, (it was desperately needed) I sided with my coworkers in a prediction of the future. We'll probably all be busy sometime later on! Not because of the virus itself. But because of what's happening because of it. Cancelled sports, cancelled events, etc...pretty soon, there's going to be nothing to do, but each other 😂 Maybe a baby boom! 😂
Especially if the Internet implodes. ;)

Poland on lockdown, international flights and trains cancelled, no foreign citizens allowed for 10 days starting Sunday 0:00 CET, with a possible extension to 30 and then up to 60 days in total. Polish citizens to be put on mandatory 14-days quarantine when crossing the border back to Poland.
No meetings >50 persons of any type including religious celebrations; no restaurants, pubs, any other commercial activity mostly intact, though all shopping malls closed except for their groceries, drugstores, laundries.

Or more divorces because couples are cooped up for 24 hours a day over many weeks if a lockdown occurs. That's what happens in Wuhan - increased divorce rates, so much so that they limit the number of divorce requests to 10 per day. In a city of 11 million, it'll take a long time to get a divorce 😂.

Kentucky today is reporting 12 cases, but IMO seem to be taking this seriously and taking what seems to me to be a lot of proactive measures. At this point, school districts are left on their own with the decision to cancel with the governor "encouraging" them to do and trying to push some emergency measures through the legislature(day requirement relief) to make it easier. I'd ballpark there being ~200 school districts in the state(at least one in every 120 counties, and many still have separate city and county districts), but the big ones-including Jefferson county(Louisville) are closing. Most colleges have shifted to online instruction. Many churches are voluntarily not holding services this weekend.

On the good news front, the first patient diagnosed in Kentucky has fully recovered and been discharged from the hospital.
