Who in their right mind would pay 9.99$ for News+????
I got 6 months free through Verizon. It’s alright, but I’d never pay for it.

It’s really just a time issue. There are all these articles and even news podcasts, but who’s got the time to read and listen to all this stuff?

The WSJ (biggest paper on news+) is normally $39 a month. If you’re fine reading from the news app, it a great deal even for that one paper. Throw in access to select local papers, pop-mech and pop-sci, Time, Times of London, plus more; and News+ is sort of a bargain at $9.99.

The service isn’t targeted at people who get most of their news from cable networks, YouTube, social media, and bloggers.

If there is someone out there paying $39 a month for Wall Street Journal we need to find them and place them into a mental asylum.

Apple News is still woefully overpriced even with the discount. Apple Arcade is fairly useless for me, but that's just my personal preference for games, I do get it for free through Verizon though. TV+ is good at times, enough for a sub so I guess $5 off is something.

I have subscribed to the WSJ full edition for decades, the news+ version is a very truncated version

One is limited to reading in the News app, so if you wish to use a PC, then the service probably isn’t a great fit.
That's a shame. Yeah, if I need to get Apple hardware for services that shouldn't require them, then that'll be quite a limiting factor. One major reason I initially brushed off Apple TV+ (besides that I had 2 other SS going at the time, and didn't have time for a 3rd one) was because I just assumed you needed, Apple hardware to watch it (making it a no-go for me since at the time, my 1st gen iPad Air was all I had). As mentioned, I can just watch it on my PC.

I suspect News+ may have fared better if the rest of us could get in without Apple hardware. Hell, products like the iPod Classic were even more popular when Windows users could make use of it (that's one reason I got into iPods). I don't know how many users are on Apple Music that don't use Apple gear, but I'm guessing that applies there as well.

Wow, $5 off.
I'd be remiss if I didn't say I wasn't thinking the same thing. FWIW, 1) the services (AA and ATV+) are only $50 per year, so that's still 10% off. 2) And Apple stuff typically doesn't get very generous discounts. IIRC, hundreds of $'s off their hardware, that's already north of $1800 or so, if not more.

I'm almost done with a six-month trial subscription. I like the broad, deep selection of magazines and how they can be read just like the print edition rather than just, say, a list of titles and decks. It's on par with print, which I prefer. The magazines alone are the reason why I'm going to use the Costco promo once my trial expires.

The newspaper side is a different story. For example, if there's a way to get every story in today's edition of the WSJ or a local paper such as the KC Star, I haven't found it. If I go to a newspaper's "channel," I see only a limited selection of articles. So if I really want the full whack every day, I would have to pay each of those newspapers directly for a subscription.

Some newspapers and other publications are limiting their content in other ways. For example, Barron's and WaPo now have "Subscription" next to many of their stories. I assume that those are billed through Apple News+ rather than directly.

You need the Apple News+ app on at least one device, but that doesn't mean you need to read everything just on that device. For example, if you have only an iPhone, you can email yourself stories for viewing on your Windows PC, Android tablet, etc. Most of the time, you just click on the link and get the story. Sometimes you'll get a dead-end message saying that you should read it on an Apple device for the best "experience." I mention this because you don't necessarily have to buy an iPad, iMac or MacBook to use Apple News+. But if you want to read everything on a screen bigger than a phone display, you'll have to pony up for another Apple device. That's an example of how Apple News+ drives hardware sales.

Can I still redeem the 1 year subscription of Apple TV+, Apple News+ or Apple Arcade if I already have a subscription?

Yes, your 1 year subscription of Apple TV+, Apple News+ or Apple Arcade will be added on top of your current subscription. Your next billing date through Apple will be 1 year from the date you redeemed the subscription purchased from Costco.

This is kind of confusing wording - it implies that if you have time remaining on your existing subscription, that gets wiped out and you only get a year from the day you redeem the 1-year subscription. But it doesn't appear to be that way: I just did the 1-year tv+ subscription, and it pushed my next billing date out by exactly a year to June 2023.

Now the question is, can additional years be added on top of that? Is there a limit? Setting aside the question of whether it's strategically better to only subscribe sporadically to binge new content, tv+ is still the cheapest streaming service by far at $5/month, and this takes it down to $3.75/month if you use it consistently. Most others are in the $12-$15 range. It's inevitable that the price will go up once Apple decides they have enough content to warrant it, so does it make sense to pre-pay and lock in this price for several years?

I bought it, but to be safe, I decided not to redeem it until the day that my trial ends.

Let us know about whether multiple years can be stacked. If so, I'm stocking up!

man this is a great idea. Hope costco could expand this offering to include apple one bundle discounts
I could be misreading the fine print but it seems that this discount is only good for one year, then the price reverts to $4.99 per month. If you pay yearly, you're only saving $5 so not sure it's worth the hassle for one year.

I thought you could keep buying this year after year (or so long as it's still around), so the savings could add up. Especially if you also get in on all 3.

If you have Executive membership, you get an additional 2% cashback (in addition to the standard 3% for purchases made at Costco or Costco.com) for using your Costco Visa card. This makes it 5% cashback, and would bring the price down to $3.56 per month! AFAIK, you can continue doing this so long as it's offered by Costco. Of course, you wouldn't want to get too many at a time, as you only have (IIRC?) a year to redeem them.

For me, ATV+ is nice, but I can't see myself subbing for a whole year at a time. I'd do what others do and just get 1 to 3 months per year when new content comes out. That's still far cheaper than this. (Others already have it as part of Apple One. I have no use for A1, so that's a nonstarter). When my current trial expires, I want to wrap up some stuff on other SS I have that are about to expire, but will probably move on to Netflix after that point.

OTOH, I am leaning towards doing a year of of Apple Arcade. I have some games I want to see to the end, and having games "on standby" would be nice. I can reevaluate after a year to see if we'd like to continue or not

Looks like multiple years can be stacked. I redeemed another and it pushed my next billing date out to June 2024. The only weird thing is that the email that came still said "Free for 12 months, starting Jun 2022" - same as the first redemption email. But both the tv app and the Settings app on iOS confirm the 2024 end date. Now the question is how far in advance to prepay... ?

@CoMoMacUser I just tried another, and Costco automatically cancelled the order because "Quantity limits on item exceeded." But the page says "Limit 5 per Member" which I definitely haven't hit yet. In any case, that appears to be the upper limit unless you get other Costco members to purchase for you. But I don't think I'd do more than that anyway. Will have to retry later or contact Costco about the bad limit error.

Been meaning to ask.. can you purchase these subs and gift it to others?
Yes. This is toward the bottom of the Costco email that has the redemption code.

I understand it may not be for everyone, but this is a GREAT deal for me. I have been paying $6/month just for digital access to my local newspaper—turns out Apple News allows full access to the same paper. With this offer, for only $1.50/month more, I can get full access to my city’s newspaper, my hometown’s newspaper, plus all the other magazines that come with it. I’m tempted to buy another year to stack on top!

So you get every story from those newspapers? That's great! I wish I did. My local paper's Apple News+ channel has only a handful each day. If I want everything, I'd have to get a subscription directly from the paper.

Now we just need Sam's Club to get on board with more Apple products and discounts.
Agreed! I'm a member of both, and I just bought an iPad Pro from Costco because it was $150 off. I don't remember Sam's Club ever having that deep a discount on any Apple Product.

Anyone know what happens if you bank a year of each of these services and then sign up for Apple One? Do you get credit for the remaining prepaid service? If so, how much? The discounted price prorated for what time is left or the regular price prorated?
I’m wondering the same thing. Anyone?

Best Buy currently has an even better deal on Apple News+ where you can get six months FREE then $9.99/month which would mean $59.94 for a year. It's for new subscribers only.
Yea sux they sometime offer the music but it's only new

Does anyone really subscribe continuously to Apple TV+? I haven't found enough content to warrant a full year subscription.
I do, and that sounds like a good deal, but I don't think I've ever paid except when we had One for a bit. I can always find a promo somewhere that works for former subscribers. Gonne get some Cracker Jacks when this promo expires once I see something I want to sub for again.

I personally despise recurring subscription extortion fees. So unless it’s a free trial which I can cancel before the trial ends, it’s not happening.
