Same thing with my iphone4. Thats so weired:rolleyes:)

Not a single person I know has the iPhone death grip issue among the 20 or so people I know that have launch day models.

If people have the issue, the solution has been presented: put a case on the phone, or return it if you don't like.

Either way, stop bitching. It's annoying to listen to grown adults whine about not being able to use a phone without an "ugly case!!!!111!!!!"

Go get a droid if you don't like the iPhone. No one is forcing you to be here.

"So the heart of the problem is, smartphones have issues, and we made it easy to exploit the issue by showing people where to hold the phone to cover the antenna."

So now it's our fault??? Without thinking, I accidentally touch this spot ALL of the time when holding the phone. The majority of my calls are all dropped calls.

This couldn't have gone any worse. Blame the industry, blame the user, issue free "hack job" of a fix just becuase you're nice and you expected this to be a win?

He wasn't blaming the user. You took that wrong, but it sounds like you were looking for something to complain about.

Your dropped calls are probably due to the Proximity sensor anyways. I've noticed I will hang up on people sometimes because of the sensor not shutting it off when it's in my shirt pocket.

But anyways... return it and go buy a different phone if you don't like it.

10:48AM Q: Will there be refunds for AT&T contracts?
A: I believe so, yes.

I believe so? A tad ambiguous I think. I hope this also applies to UK iPhone owners who are locked into paying 18 to 24 months of line rental to close their account.

That's the dumbest statement I have read today.:(

"- Only 0.55% of iPhone 4 customers have called AppleCare about the antenna issue."

Because 95% of those with the issues know that there is no fix yet, and are "smart" enough to check the net about the issues.

Wow... never seen a bigger bunch of spoiled whiney brats in my entire life. You wont get ANYTHING out of them legally. You shouldnt... if you dont like it, take it back. You have that option. Should you choose not to use it, hey... that's your problem. You are offered a new case, as it has been proven that a case fixes the ANTENNA issue (not to be confused with the "we are made of meat" issue that will be there regardless).

I am sure they will address it as much as they can through software and hardware revisions on future production, but they have a successful business. For those of you saying "wah wah wah! its all about the money!" You are darn right. It is a BUSINESS, not your personal IT department. You vote with your dollars... dont like them? Dont buy from them. Why is this so freaking hard to comprehend?

Hell... I'd give my left nut for a "defective" iP4 right now.

What about more info on the Proximity Sensor issue, would like more details.

What about the screen brown spots consumers been seeing and returning iPhones???

Any discussion on scratches/chips on glass?? Is it a none issue?

I'm not sure what more people wanted. He admitted there's a problem. .......
......If you're not happy after that, then there's nothing that would have made you happy to begin with. Return your phone and get that android you love so much.

Agree. I really can't understand the fuss. If folks think the iPhone is a pile of s..t, then get an Android.

If they have bought one and their experience makes them feel it truly is a pile of s..t, then take it back and get a refund.

Then get on with your life.

Yes, antenna design to avoid someone gripping it so that the bars disappear is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT. These geniuses never thought that maybe, just maybe if they put the antenna at the TOP of the phone where virtually no one grips it instead of the bottom corner where everyone grips it, they MIGHT just MIGHT not have that problem anymore! Steve is telling everyone that all smart phones have this weakness, but he's not telling you that not all smart phones were designed stupidly enough to put their antenna right where you hand is going to cover it (especially if you're left-handed).

The FCC doesn't allow antennas on the top. They don't really have a choice in the matter I think.

TBH, I really do think its a small percentage of people making a huge fuss. MR is in no way indicative of the general population; while he cites .55% I wouldn't be surprised if this was 1-3%; even still, thats a small number.

Especially considering there's a clear connection between low signal strength and losing signal.

People need to stop sensationalizing this. It's getting annoying.

Calm down, and return your phone if you're that angry. And please, don't post 40 threads about how mad you are in the iPhone forum, no one cares.

0.55% of all complaints to apple care, which is a lot, compared to 0.55% of all complaints specific to the iphone 4 to apple care.

Jobs was clever to leave out that distinct difference.

Good presentation by Apple, but unfortunately you can't satiate the public (especially the American public) with silly things like facts and data. We don't want to be burdened by things like critical thinking and analyzing situations, we make decisions based on gut feeling and media frenzy!

For the record, my iphone4 is fine and all my friends with them (4 of them) have NO problems with theirs either.

Are you saying on Apple fans posses those skills and everyone else is a ****-slinging monkey?

PR stunt...nothing more.

This was a joke. They offer nothing but a free rubber band!!!

I can practically cover my BB Storm and lose no drop in signal. What...did they go and spend the last 22 days to find the three phones on the market that if you palmed it tight enough a signal would drop to show they aren't alone? Give me a break. One finger on the "spot" and the iP4 loses its signal.

Their answers are complete snow jobs. They basically don't know how to fix it. Droid here I come. I will not reward a company that is so full of crap that they can't admit they screwed up with their antenna design. This PR conference was simply to divert the attention away from the real issue and get people thinking about all these other fancy slides and a free rubber band...I mean bumper.

I am so dissapointed.

Thank you for confirming my suspicion. You created your account so you could try and stir things up by coming on here and making it look like there is now this huge wave of people who want to return their phones. It is goofy. Why do you even care?

People like you have been on here for the past month, attacking and berating people who claim not to have a problem. People without problems are nearly continuously shouted down by an extremely rude and vocal minority. It is about time someone told all the people who are only here to troll: "Its over, go home".

Maybe you are younger than 10 because you obviously cannot read English. What does my join date show? That's what I thought. I've owned every iPhone since 2007 and cannot believe we've seen it go backwards in functionality. Not all the fancy **** that makes the iPhone unique. I'm talking about it's main use... A phone. This one goes back... Tonight.

That's okay.

Is there any case that protects the precious iPhone 4 camera with a slider or something? It's a great lens but very prone to scratches at it's exposed place.

I like my iPhone caseless and small, but for certain situations I want to put a case on. Mainly for sitting it flat on a gritty table and typing two-handed (which I suddenly find works great). The bumper looks good for that purpose. I’m willing to wait for my chosen color :)

And my experience echoes what Jobs says: holding it a certain way makes the bars drop, but doesn’t make the call drop. (Without the press hysteria I’d actually never have realized that holding it a certain way was the issue—I’d have thought it was random fluctuation. So I’m glad for “Antennagate”—it taught me a good tip to try with ANY phone when I’m in a bad signal area!)

Is it just me or does anyone else see on the screenshot of the white iphone from the press conference, that the "antenna line" is on the other side of the phone? (the sim card side)?

Vamoose!!!!

Good. Now all the whiney iphone/apple haters can return their iPhones and go get their droids. Remember? Nobody FORCED you to buy an iPhone. But I suspect the majority of whiners don't even own an iPhone, they are just bashers. In which case they will lie in the weeds until the next media driven mountain out of molehill drama.

I find it all...rather humorous

Rdf

They only compared bars, they didn't show us a 3GS
People didn't call because they knew what they would be told.
And people held their phones normally because they showed us they had put the gap where you hold a phone normally? Really?

Again, obvious why they did this on a Friday, they are just slinging all the stuff they can and going to wait the weekend to see what sticks and what doesn't. Put a 'free prize' out in the near future to foster a 'wait and see what this does' attitude and hope the problem can be swept under the carpet.

Apple has lost all integrity.

They absolutely did not say the iPhone4 has a design flaw and actually said pretty close to the opposite, "So I don't know changing the antenna design would help."

"Now when we look at this data, it's hard to escape the conclusion that there is a problem, but that problem is affecting a very small number of users. I get emails saying the phone works perfectly, and they can't understand what this is all about. So we think it's affecting a small batch, but it has to do with inherent problems in smartphones. But we want all of our users to be happy."
