There is no real evidence to support that assertion. Some woe is me Apple lied to us type posts on here by people who made bad assumptions doesn't constitute proof.
I suspect considerable 16GB IPads are getting returned, or sales have sunk down after WWDC. Personally the new iPad add seems to confirm this spin “spike”.
I made no assumptions but had higher (apparently unrealistic) hopes for M1/16GB iPadOS…

Yay! Gruber wasn't drunk.
You didn't enjoy that podcast episode recently with Marco Arment? I had a great time listening to that. If you're in a hurry or looking for concise tech commentary, The Talk Show is not the place to be, of course. But I'm not always in a hurry or looking for concise tech commentary.

The "Greg looked bored" comments - I've seen every live Gruber Talk Show where Joswiak has appeared. He's been on several. I think his role on these is to simply be there to deflect any potentially damaging, PR-wise, discussions from happening. I.e. he is there for spin control, lest Craig gets too revealing in his comments. And he has a few smaller things to add. But yes, strictly speaking, his time is a bit wasted and I think he can be forgiven for looking a little bored sometimes. But hey, they want him there in case of an emergency. Just like you want the anesthesiologist there to keep tabs on things when you go under, just in case, even if no emergency happens.

I can't listen to Gruber anymore - some of his opinions/thoughts are whack.

Just look back at some of his comments on the Away CEOs firing. Dude is so out of touch.
I read a blog he wrote about it just now, at least I think it's the article you're talking about. So based on what you wrote here I was specifically looking for the 'out of touch' comments in the blog. Perhaps I'm out of touch as well since what I read seemed like some logical counter points to the criticism of Steph Korey. So, can you elaborate?

P.S. I don't know Steph Korey and have some total ****** bosses in my day, some female - so I'm willing to believe she is a total bitch - but I don't see anything wrong with looking at possible alternate sides to the story.

For reference, here's the article I read - so maybe it's not the one you're referring to: https://daringfireball.net/2019/12/away_replaces_ceo

Deliveries are still 1 month out.

Haha, totally. Those wanting John to hold them to the fire over headphone jacks are completely missing the point. Thats not how it works. These are simple, easy, feel good pieces. No more, no less. The amount to of friction about them being anything different is misguided - if not bizarre.

I’m more impressed John can get so much of those execs’ time. If anything, it could have just been John and Craig. Not quite sure why Greg was included (at a certain point, he seemed to be wondering the same). But overall, I always enjoy any insight from Apple leadership team. It was exactly what I expected.
I'm not sure why everything is so binary. No, he doesn't have to hit them with "Mike Wallace style 60 Minutes interviews." But he can challenge them a bit, since he does express issues with the way Apple treats developers, who are admittedly his friends.

Sounds like a perfect time to ask a mildly challenging questions about developer relations, considering they just had a DEVELOPER CONFERENCE.

Or do you disagree and think he should just offer them verbal stroking?

I think asking honest questions in a polite and relevant manner to the subject at hand should be respected. John could have done that without trashing Apple. It would have also given Craig and Greg to set the record straight on a few things without revealing classified intel.

In my opinion, Craig saved the interview session. He is passionate, well spoken, and eager to explain Apple features in a way that all can more easily understand.

John missed a good opportunity.
Exactly. There's a way to be challenging while being respectful and pleasant.

Part of it is just the way Greg looks. He can't help the face God gave him.

A "minder" to Craig is probably the wrong word, but I think you're right about "spin control."

With everything moving to cloud computing, iCloud storage seems like a reasonable area to focus on and monetize.

Remember when "unlimited minutes" on phones were obscenely expensive? Now "unlimited minutes" is table stakes. Times change. Cloud storage is incredibly important, especially with the size of images and other data.

I'm not sure this is what you meant, but I think a lot of people unreasonably expect lots of free storage.

5 GB is paltry--I agree, but the step up plans are pretty reasonable given the importance of data.

It’s painful to watch. Gruber spends more time talking and explaining himself and his grandiose idea of why he is necessary than asking questions that users care about. I don’t know why this has become a tradition, but it needs to stop; it’s like old Apple friends from back in the day trying to be relevant and reminding us of their bond that no one cares about.
Apple toyed with moving on when they first sent products to youtubers for preview. Gruber was not included and he had a meltdown. IIRC, Apple has included him in some way every time since then.

As for comments about lack of hard hitting questions, gruber recently extolled the virtues of Oprah and her ability to conduct an interview “strategically” and carefully draw people into answering difficult questions.

So, he at least is aware of interviews and how to ask hard questions. I would guess the reason there isn’t a question about iPadOS is because there is no good answer.

Truly? Does he have an alcohol problem? I know he talks about drinking a lot. Not sure if he has an issue with that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don’t give a crap what he has or has not regarding that matter, and I don’t care for people speculating with such matters just for the sake of it.

Gruber likes to listen to his own voice, his ego is so big, it prevents him to be a good journalist. At least he asked about Apple developers relations.

Every time I see Gregs last name I feel it's such a missed opportunity that he isn't called Steve as well.
Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Steve Joswiak.

Maybe in another timeline they get to enjoy this inane/amusing coincidence.
Or we could star a petition online for the guy to change his name. 🤣

Informative, but he spent too much time giving his view on each topic prior to handing it to the people we want to hear from.

I also noticed with all the interviews I’ve watched, that there seems to be a very strict rule against addressing the reasonable expectations of the posters from sites like this.

I can’t disagree with your points, but my point is to dislike how Apple has make it hard not to use iCloud with its apps. I like to be able to chose.
Something along the likes of the privacy features that Apple has been, very well, introducing: you can choose whether or not you want to be tracked (or use iCloud storage).

And if it was a real interview he would have had the follow up: "Is privacy a human right in China?"
Not every interview needs to be about political gotchas.

If you're going in that interview with the expectation of "I hope they discuss all the ways Apple is flawed, a huge corporation, part of the problem, etc.", then you're wasting your time. Gruber absolutely discusses China at times, but he's not gonna do it with Federighi and Joswiak. Not only are they a poor fit for that (sometimes discusses that (maybe if you got Cook and Jackson); they're also simply not going to invite you again.

If, OTOH, you're interested in a video where Craig and Greg elucidate their thought process a little further than they could at the keynote, this is a decent choice.
