This would be the next logical step in the iMac's life, that chin being removed is the most likely change.

It's strange - We'll buy a new ute for $65,000 NZ and expect it to last about 6-8 years, and will drive it, maybe 3 hrs/ day. So a new mac at $10,000 that we will use 10+ hrs / day (and the mac pro is 8 yrs old now) is no issue. Just provide us with larger screens. In an office of 6 people we have 5 screens 40" x 3840 x 2160 - and we'd have bigger if we could get them.
installed 3 x M1 Mac minis with no dramas, so I expect the new Imacs will be the same - just get me the Macpro mini ASAP please.

If l0vetodream is so certain and credible, then they should make their Twitter account public again. L0vetodream only changed to a private account after they got the March 23 Apple Event wrong. Simply pathetic to hide away by changing to a private account, and then continuing to buzz around with rumors inside a private account.

Fine, I know whether their account is public or private is beyond MacRumors' control. However MacRumors should not treat l0vetodream as credible (or give them this credible tone in the article) if it has been wrong, and l0vetodream is being so elusive as always.
Pretty sure he made his account private long before 3/23.

I’ve been hoping for a 32” 6K display since I made a prediction that the iMac Pro would have one. Then Apple came out with that for their new display. They could make this thing pretty quiet with a 32” footprint, even with a reduced bezel. Lots of space for heat pipes and the Apple Silicon doesn’t get very hot.

They should do a 24” iMac and 32” iMac Pro, or at least let us configure the 32” to be Pro-like. I think I’ll wait to upgrade my 2019 5K when the 32” iMac gets mLED or OLED.

Apple - don't mess this up.

iMacs are desktops...
Don't gimp the ports on the back just to make it "look good from behind in a Doctors office"

Offer them all - and lots of them - even some legacy USB-A please -- make them easier to access also.
Desktops and Dongles should never become a thing (barring weird edge cases)

Yes to lots of ports but no to USB-A ports. You don't need "dongles" for legacy USB. Just replace your current USB-A cables with new USB-C cables. They're backward compatible and you can replace your cables for pocket change at Monoprice. Get over USB-A. If manufacturers keep including it on new devices, lazy accessory makers will never feel compelled to update to the current standard.

Unless someone hands you a standard USB-A flash drive. ;)

But yes... I agree on cables for other drives or devices.

You had me until you said USB-A.

If my time owning an iMac has taught me anything, it’s how much I am willing to compromise to have a clean front. Even if it means having to fumble with awkwardly-located ports at the back of the computer.

The panels on the 5K iMac suck. Image retention is terrible. I had to buy a replacement display panel on Alibaba and have it shipped from China to replace the panel on my iMac, as the image was burned in.
can be a bit of a lottery with panels, perhaps a good reason why Mac mini users are keep to keep their Macs separate from their screens

Hard disagree. Height is useful for anyone who wants to work with text (or even web pages) without constantly scrolling.

And for that use case there are many options. And portrait mode is great. But as width increases then so does heigh unless the a spec ratio changes. And there comes a point where it is not comfortable, that point will be different for everyone. But there’s a general consensus that width is easier to deal with than heigh from an ergonomic perspective. You are arguing the wrong point.

I am wondering why i woud choose this over a Mac Mini with a monitor of whatever size i choose?
Probably because a Apple quality or equivalent 5k display + Mac mini will possibly be more expensive, similar to how the iMac 5k is today.

Enjoy the new iMac - unless I can sell it, I’ll be using the 2019 for years to come. Doubt Apple would make it worthwhile in a buy back.

I agree with you and I personally won't touch iMac unless I have extra cash. But I have own one about 10 years ago, I'd say it makes everything very clean. You basically have a "montiro" and power cable, keyboard+mouse. It's a very clean setup.

I still don't get the iMac.

It's a monitor with a Mac Mini. Why merge them into something that doesn't need merged?
People keep saying this, but at least through the end of the Intel era, it isn't even remotely true unless you were exclusively looking at the 21" iMac, due to a combination of physical volume and thermals.

Top-of-the-line Intel Mini: 6-core mobile i7 (65W TDP) and Intel Integrated GPU (plus 2 RAM slots for a total max of 64GB and 2TB SSD).

Top-of-the-line Intel iMac: 10-core desktop i9 (125W TDP) and 16GB Radeon Pro 5700 XT (plus 4 RAM slots for a total max of 128GB and 8TB SSD).

Even taking into account that the high-end Intel Mini would have somewhat better specs if it had been upgraded at the same time as the iMac was, there is simply no way you're going to cram a midrange desktop CPU and midrange desktop GPU (with a massive amount of RAM) into the Mini chassis along with the power supply to feed them, even if you could theoretically squeeze in two more RAM slots and 8TB of storage.

Now, depending on what Apple decides to do with their higher-end M-series chips, and what GPUs they offer, this equation could well change. Given the thermal and power envelope of the M1, you could almost certainly put something that could compete with the highest-end current desktop i9s into the Mini chassis, although the GPU is more questionable (if Apple continues to offer something with equivalent grunt and the corresponding thermal needs).

All that is to say that maybe this won't be true for future iMacs and Minis, but at this point the higher-end iMacs are not at all similar to the higher-end Minis.

My biggest complaint about the iMac design is how truly inaccessible the myriad of ports are. Every time I go to change a plug or adapter or dongle, I have to move the monitor around, "swing it up, swing it down" (if anyone here remembers Polaroid's Swinger camera back in the mid-60s, you'll recognize that theme), and then figure out "which direction the Thunderbolt or USB cable needs (Apple's beige-on-white miniscule symbols don't really help).

Why can't Apple design an iMac with the ports on the sides at least? I know it would destroy the pure, raw aesthetic appearance that Jony Ives and Steve Jobs spent endlessly years fretting over, but, come on, let's get some Real Users in there to point out some obvious flaws.

And can we finally get some height adjustment with all of Apple's monitors? My Dell monitors are easy to adjust; what is Apple's stigma towards a flexible, adjustable stand?

In fact, the "swivel" of the iMac is rather too loose for its bulky, flat size. Have you ever watched someone carry an iMac into an Apple store for a repair? It's quite the balancing act!
The original bondi blue iMac had ports on the side and a handle for carrying. No height adjustment though. The sunflower iMac had great monitor adjustment. I do keep the original box my iMac came with, if I need to transport it

I just want them to bring back target display mode - I loved that on my old iMac, and used it long after its computer power had become too old for daily use to use it as an external display for my MacBook Pro. Used it that way until I moved to all 4K displays.

But I won't buy another iMac until they bring back target display mode - I don't want such a great display to be obsoleted by the computing power long before the display itself is obsolete.

(The old iMac is now the kitchen "recipe and random internet use" computer, ironically still with a Thunderbolt 2 cable plugged in to it so that family members who still have older Thunderbolt 2-equipped MacBook Air and Pro can use it as an external display in a pinch.)

They will give me $550 trade in for my late 2014 iMac. More than I expected. But in your case, you have a lot of life left in a 2019 model. You can look up trade in value for yours in the Apple Store app if you are curious

M-1 iMac ..If the eliminate the heat bezel chin and the bezels then the screen will be 32''
Unless Apple shrinks the frame
32'' would be good
