if this ever gets stable and can run Autodesk apps (AutoCAD, Revit, VIZ, 3d StudioMax) then it will be a "killer app" for architects who, right now, are largely forced to use Windows.

i need Revit and Bootcamp will work but the way that Crossover functions is really what i want...

help out the architects and there is a huge market waiting to buy Macs!

I have access to a very old version of AutoCad (maybe version 12 or 13) that runs fine in Win98SE. I had it going in VirtualPC a very long time ago.

Anyone try it yet? I think I'll give it a whirl later. (good thing I have an old USB floppy drive for installation ;) )

First impressions are maybe not so good. I installed IE6 and it started fine and loaded the default MSN homepage. When I tried to go to MacRumors, I got an unblocked pop-up but the page never fully loads, and now it's hung.

Your experience was still better than mine. I couldn't even get IE 6 to install. Well, I guess it is doing a good job of emulating the Windows experience... ;-)

CrossOver Example

Tried AOPA's Flight Planning .exe application. Loaded fine, but field labels are missing. Somewhat usable.

Next step: Boot Camp. Have ordered XP/SP2.....felt alien buying such!

Yeah, I just sent the link so they can test the AOPA Real Time Flight Planner. Seems functional, you just have to guess what goes into each box.

I can tell you that the AOPA RTFP works fine in Parallels (and you don't have to dual boot to use it).

Here's Your Holy Grail.:)

yes indeed. Once the bugs get ironed out, this will blow any other solution out of the water. Why install or buy windows when you can run all of the same apps "natively" in OS X? It's the perfect solution.

I had an alpha version of Crossover Mac last month and was able to install Quicken 2004 on a MacBook, and it works nearly perfectly. Even the online downloading stuff. The only problems so far are some of the popup windows (dialog boxes) are too small, can't read the text. I think this was addressed in today's public beta.

The alpha version supported Quicken 2002-2005, but the beta now lists 2006 as maybe buggy, but functional.

W00T! Quicken support.
Yes, I know it is not sexy but I use the heck out of that program. :D

Thanks kainjow,
I thought paralells was amazing, but this would obviously be even better not having windows eat up CPU/RAM. If anyone else gets any other results a post back would be cool. Thanks alot for trying that out for me!

Stitches:)

Does anyone know if this will run Microsoft Access? They say Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Outlook run, but what I really need is Access.

Anyone?

I know I'm going to need Autodesk/AutoCAD in the very near future so this is a lifesaver! No buying windows for me.... EVER!!!:D

Someone do me a favor and try Age of Empires and Photoshop 7, please :)

I have Photoshop 7 for Windows and for Mac OS X (PowerPC), and am planning to buy an Intel Mac, and don't have the money to buy a new universal Photoshop on release, which means dealing with performance lag or rebooting in Windows all the time.

And Age of Empires, I would just really like that to run :)

I was trying AOE III, with a WinXP bottle, but it said I needed Windows XP, not another version, and then finished the installation. Bloody MS

I'll keep trying some other games, I'll keep you posted

installing IE6, fans on Macbook going up like a jet. Loudest noise since I got my Macbook

I think NeoOffice can work with Access databases. Have you tried that before?

Windows 95

Wow, I have an old Windows 95 era program that actuall works! Amazing. We're now trying to get an old Cobol program at work to run. It's the only program keeping us on Windows. If we could run it in a terminal window I can argue the purchase of Mac mini's. I have visions of Xserves in my rack.

No .NET joy, that's too bad...

Other complex apps that I need windows for:

Has anyone tried Naturally Speaking or Omnipage Pro?

(Last I checked the Windows version of the latter was way ahead of the mac, and there's no comparison between NS and the voice recognition programs on the mac.)

I got it up and running (Office XP):

What directory does CO use for the Superdrive? I tried to install BF Vietnam, but when it asked for the second disc, it couldn't find it.

Apparently, Microsoft programs requiring Windows XP don't see winXP bottles as valid versions of XP

Now trying Morrowind

I managed to get Battlefield 2 to install, despite what their website says, however, when I try to launch it, it insists that the DVD isn't in the drive.

I have tried installing Autocad 2007 .

It requires the installation of .NET files then needs to reboot at which point it fails.

Any ideas anyone?
