I use a credit card (then pay off immediately and get the points). If you're paying interest to get one then I suggest lowering your budget or saving up.

I love my Apple products but I can't really say that macs are a good 'investment' for most people (I'm thinking ROI and not more subjective items). The cheapest of cheap computers these days can handle 99% of the tasks people do on computers daily.

15 years ago every laptop was 3k and they sold like crazy. Cost justification is all it comes down to.

For consultants, paying for the laptop is simply a part of doing business. I would never work all day on anything other than Apple, i have tried with cheaper alternatives, they don't work out so well and the money you save is lost in down time.

For students, save up, you can have a nice macbook paid for in a month.

I am a consultant as well and used Windows machines w/o an issue.

The experience certainly isn't the same but luckily I never suffered downtimes. I use macs and linux for everything except work these days.

I had about $1000 before I wanted a MacBook Pro. Then I wanted one so I put my debit card away, hoping I would not waste money with it.

About 3 months later, I now have $3000 from my job. I ordered a new 15" MBP i7 along with a 32GB WiFi iPad.

I am in highschool.

When I was in highschool I could do this too because my parents took care of my living expenses. All my money went to ME haha, clothes, food, fun stuff =) Now I have to pay rent, groceries, bills.. SUCKS1 lol

I do this thing called 'work.' And every couple weeks I get this thing called a 'pay check.' I also do side work for people and they also give me money.

This is is good guide.

Hustling Ho's on the street.
(IT WAS A JOKE, TAKE IT EASY PRUDE POLICE)

Just working for everything I want. Plus my friend hooked me up with her employee discount.

$1,000.00 came from me and my bestbuy credit card. Any remaining came from my dad and his bestbuy credit card. (I have to pay him back though.)

Gave Steve Jobs a lap dance as some of the Beatles' greatest hits were playing in the not so distance background.

Please don't flame me, I am just curious how all of you are able to afford the MacBook Pro. I have been saving for a couple months and am hoping to get one in 6 months or so. Am I missing something here, are there places to buy a macbook pro cheaper than Apple or Best Buy?

Please excuse my nosiness.

I put away $25 a week and paid it for in full. The first one. Now it generates income for me to the extent that I could go out and buy a new tomorrow if I wanted one. But my MBP 2.8 17 inch is a fine machine and I see no reason to upgrade to the new quad processors at this time. Maybe next cycle or the one thereafter.

Working and saving up. I used to work at McDonalds when I was 16 and saved up enough money to buy my PS3,car, and various other things and I also would give money to my mom to pay bills. It's all in budgeting.

Wow! Thanks for the advice.
