i got my 15" i5 2.53ghz for around 1650 on ebay!

$1799- %8 (bing.com cashback)
best of all no tax!! (~$200):)

I on one hand do not have the money to buy a MBP myself however my parents do so that's how I got mine. It was sort of a gift for being in the top 10% of my class and graduating summa cum laude

I just got my insanely hot, filthy rich Girlfriend to buy me one.....I'm actually using it right now to respond to this post! :D

Its the 15" Anti-Glare with 512GB SSD, 8GB of PC10600 @1333MHz(1.34GHz) upgraded RAM.... and I had some Mac fanatic tech-head buddies upgrade my integrated iSight web-cam to 3.2mp's

I'm loving it!

I save a little each month for my big technology purchases.
For example, at $50 per month is $600 per year and is $3,000 in 5 years (my normal upgrade timeframe).
At $100 per month, that's $1,200 per year.
It adds up quickly. :)

This. sushi and others who do this have a good plan. Even if you can only manage a small amount ($10 or $20), after some time passes, you'll still be a good chunk of the way toward your next purchase.

Easy calculation: (years until replacement) * (12 months/year) * (same $ each month).
Say you can only afford $20/month, and plan to replace your computer in 3 years. That's still $720. Doesn't sound like much? Consider that you're already halfway to purchasing the entry model MBP.

The trick is having the self-discipline to do it, each month, and to leave the money alone. A separate, no fee savings account with an automatic savings plan (auto withdrawals) can be your friend here. Once setup, you leave it alone.

Umm, I get up and go to work each day (it used to be the American way before the bailout mentality took hold).

ROFL! That's the post of the week, keep up the good work.:)

i work 50+ hours a week plus i am importing and selling a new board sport to north america from europe to make a few extra bucks =D plus just working as much after work as possible hehe =D its not easy but it is possible plus the prices over the past 5 years have more then 1/2 themselves =D

My parents put some money towards it because of my exam results and then I paid for the rest with savings from christmas / birthdays etc.

I sold a Mac Pro to get my MBP. I originally bought the Mac Pro with a bonus check that I got from a company I was working for back then. I kept it for a year and sold it to buy a 13" MBP. I kept that for about six months and sold it to buy a 15" MBP.

I help offset the cost by selling my old Mac. I update my computers every other year and sell the old for usually half the price of a new one. Friends of mine know i take good care of my stuff and ask when i am selling my used machines.

I also use my laptop for work and write it off at tax time. Having a good job doesn't hurt either.

Well I use mine for work. I have a MacPro for my main workstation but I needed a laptop for video editing on the road. Got the top of the line 17" i7 Antiglare. Paid for itself in a few working days.
