Now, I hope that there isn't 6 years between the current and the next major overhaul (God, the 6 years to get the unibody design was a long time), but I don't see things changing as quick as you're thinking.

I agree with you for the most part but we shouldn't ask for change just for the sake of it.

The only change I would want is the removal of the Superdrive. People still could use the MBAs external Superdrive and it would allow for a thinner design, possibly a mid-level card in the 13" through saved expenses, a second hard drive or a second battery bay.

I wasn't talking about CHANGE NOW... if Apple drops new MBPs tomorrow, I'm all over one of 'em. I'm talking in general. The AI MBP were in serious need of an overhaul and I hope we don't have to last 6 years for the next one. I'm sure in about 3 years, everyone will think the lineup could change and Apple will take good care of us... always does.

Dear Steve,
I signed up for an iPhone Development class at my University but have held off on getting a new MBP because they were about to update. There are a limited number of Macs available for general use. Please release the new MBP's tonight or tomorrow so I can buy one, download XCode and catch up in this class. If not I hold you personally responsible for my struggles in this class....

Future Customer for Life

Nice try. Bucket of slime, that's what you are...

sorry guys but my best buy shows they are still ACTIVE

How are your stock levels compared to usual?

we have a good amount...but as you can see from my shot, we are not receiving anymore for AT LEAST 2 weeks(in transit , inbound allocated and on order are all 0)

I have a Performa 5200 Mac, still works perfectly. had to ge tthe keyboard replaced because I ate one of the keys when I was little.

Hahahah! That's awesome. What a miserable piece of utter crap that thing is. I had a 6230CD that was given to me in '01, and it ended up holding my basement door open for a few years. Literally, it's only worthwhile use is as a doorstop...

When I used to work at BB as a computer supervisor about 2 years ago, we got new models of Macs/Macbooks in even while we still had a ton of old stock, every time -- and we were a high volume store.

In addition, when a new model would come out, we'd get drop shipments of the new model usually the day of or day after release which are a special shipment not shown in RSS if I recall correctly.

So... we need people to perform some stakeouts!

Good news on the Intel/Nvidia Optimus front. Supposedly Intel is happy with the tech - it makes them look good (you don't see Intel GPUs showing poorly in 3D benchmarks because you use the Nvidia one), and Nvidia gets to sell more chips.

I'd bet $100 to see this tech in the MBPs. The NDA should lift tonight or tomorrow AM. I would expect tonight at 9PM ET (usually thats the time the NDAs lift for ATI and Nvidia, Intel usually has odd times like 6AM PT or something).

I expect Optimus, but I wonder if Apple is waiting for an upcoming mobile chip from NVidia because their current mobile gfx are not DX11. Either that, or Apple goes ATI 5XXX. Their gfx choice in the upcoming revision will probably linger through 2011.

I don't think this update will be too interesting -- just processor updates. They will have to add a few other things...improved screen? better graphics? Blu Ray ? (I doubt it...)

I would not look for Blu Ray, and perhaps not much of a spec change either. Worse, while Apple may change architectures (C2D to i5/i7), the frequency of the chips will remain the same and be more limited in range, if not decrease in frequency.

C2D .............................i5/i7
2.26 GHz (MBP 13")........i5 2.26 GHz (Dual Core)
----- GHz (?) .................i5 2.40 GHz (Dual Core)
2.53 GHz (MBP 13/15")...i5 2.53 GHz (Dual Core)
2.66 GHz (MBP 15") .......i7 2.66 GHz (Dual Core)
2.80 GHz (MBP 15/17")...i7 up to 2.8 GHz (Quad Core)

It is questionable whether Apple can use the quad core in its current lineup due to the TDP of 45W and in light of the battery drain of quad cores whether Apple even wants to use a quad core. Moreover, the base clock for the i7 720QM is 1.60 GHz. Apple would have to change its advertising for the 17" MBP to "up to ... GHz." This seems unlikely.

I would expect quad cores across the lineup with Sandy Bridge next year, when the chips are scaled down to 32nm from their current 45nm. Apple could then announce a complete transition to quad core. Because of the differentiation between the base clock and the peak clock (wording?), I would think Apple might explain this at an event before making this transition. Otherwise, all of the non-techies would wonder why they should buy a lower clocked chip in a newer computer.

The must be stalling because they want to throw light peak in on the next revision :p

I would not expect light peak or USB 3.0 until the second half of 2010. If there is a revision before June, the best that can be hoped for is a better screen (but didn't Apple just boast about better color gamut with the most recent revision?) and better graphics (but as I pointed out above, unless Apple uses ATI, there are no DX11 mobile gfx from NVidia currently available and they may not be available for months). I would not hold my breath for a revision for now. I could see Apple waiting to revise the MBP lineup until May or June when they might have access to all of the features they want to add--IPS (but I am doubtful), light peak, USB 3, NVidia DX11, NVidia Optimus drivers that have been optimized for OS X. Perhaps the rumor that Apple would skip Arrandale is true.

Do you think they will give the baseline 13" 4GB of RAM?

Why would Apple care if the GFX supports DX11? If anything the graphics card will have to run OpenGL, core animation and OpenCL at lightning speeds. DX11 is only nice for those 1% of Mac users (statistic made up) who bother to boot into Windows 7 via bootcamp to play the games. (I am part of that minority but even then I hardly bothered to do the said above, seeing that I already have a better PC just for that job)

The Old Macbook Pro family

Hi guys,

In case you haven't noticed, the Apple website just removed the NEW from 'The Macbook Pro family'. A sign that they are no longer new (i.e. old) and due for a very imminent update????:D

Hm, I think the "new" sign was gone already a longer time before. Only the MacBook had a "new" next to it (and the iMac? Not sure about this). These signs are gone, but MBP didn't have one for a long time, I think.

Apple is lucky that the HP Envy doesn't have a backlit keyboard, otherwise I'd seriously be considering it as win7 isn't so bad when you get the EU version without IE and use firefox and thunderbird. However, I'm still leaning towards apple at the moment.

Everytime I go to the Apple store and look at the Macbook Pros I just lmao when I see what they are charging for the specs they are offering.

It is almost like a joke.

Never seen Apple that far out of touch before. It is almost comical.

Then you look at the Adam and you have to wonder if Apple has lost its groove.

Am I missing something? Apple lists a 15" 3.06 GHz MacBook Pro as a model for sale. Isn't the Intel i7 chip 3.06 GHz? Perhaps the product is already available and Apple pulled a fast one on the speculators.

(Where's the popcorn)?

yes they have... i cant beleive theres still people bying this model at that price... :(

the 3.06 your referring to is still a core 2 duo... it would stay i7 or something along those lines if it where one... and things like graphics would be different...

yeah...I realized that after I posted. It was just wishful thinking on my part.

I wonder what the battery life will be on the new MacBook Pro models. I really like the idea of having a 7 hr+ battery life on the current models.
...do they really get 7+ hours as advertised?

HAHA! I know what you mean... everytime I check the site my heart stops... Then I realise there is NOTHING different!! :p

As for battery life... I have heard they can get upto 7hs... but that is on all settings to save battery power... I still have read about batteries lasting 5-6hrs on normal tasks... can't recall where I read it though...
