D-Day 23rd February 2010

Okey,
I am lending my offical guess as to when they will launch the NEW Macbook Pros... As much as it pains me to say it... I am going to say February 23rd 2010. I am willing to predict they will update the Macbook Airs at the same time... I could be wrong.. However that's my prediction... :apple:
:eek::p:eek:

PS - :apple: I hope I am wrong!!!

Wtf?

I was all excited to buy my first MBP and now I am growing more and more weary. I hear all this speculation and talk about the store shutting down and people saying that an update is iminent and all I hear from Apple is nothing (insert crickets chirping). I am looking at the MBP 13" with 4gb RAM and a 320GB HDD. The price is not bad but don't want to spend that much money if the update is going to come out in a week. Is there any good information (other than pure speculation) that Apple is going to update the MBP's this month or should I just go ahead and buy. Also, are the updates going to pertain as much to the MBP 13 or more just the higher end 15's and 17's.

Just looking to make an informed purchase, I am not Bitching or complaining!

Why do you say the 23rd?

Mac Book Pro

I don't know why I am excited and in anticipation. I am under strict instructions to pay of my credit card before I'm allowed a macbook. So it will be summer before I get one.

It will be my first though I usually run linux but I have gone back to windows due to the unfinished feel of Ubuntu and all the messing around I end up doing to get things to work. But Win7 has blue screened on me twice.

In Ubuntu I can run 3 xp vms no probs and carry on surfing but under Win 7 I run 1 vm and the system grinds to a halt. I have a 1.4ghz centrino duo with 2gb ram at the mo. Unix based systems are far superior than windows in terms of their hardware use and effeciency.

I can also rip a dvd in about 40 mins under ubuntu. I takes at least 1 hour 30 in Windows.

I can't wait to move over to mac os.

Apple seems to be very secretive about their products. Like many apple users have said. Their computer products last quite a while and if your going to keep waiting for a new model, you mine as well not get one considering they come out every year/two years or so.

I bought mine about 3 days ago. Got a great deal on 13inch mbp 4gb 2.53ghz with 500gb (they thrown in a bunch of accessories). i3/i5/i7 doesn't impress me anyways and it's not like I'm doing major gaming. You buy a macbook because it's a computer that doesn't die from surfing the web, and that's about all I really want to do. Maybe a little music and photo editing here and there. It's nothing major.

I think the Macbook pros were delayed a bit but not too far off in the future. I think Apple has really been waiting on these Nvidia graphics chips to be released first as well as the Arrandale chip production to be ramped up. It wouldn't surprise me if they are available today for sale although something tells me it may be at the end of the month. I can't see other laptop manufacturers selling systems using these video chips long before Apple does...

I think I must accept the inevitable

I'm resigning myself to the idea that the macbook pros won't get updated until June when their normal life cycle is up. At this point I have to think that if people are still buying the C2D's they will probably spend the next 3 and a half months making the new ones really amazing.

There are now i7 laptops, with BR writers, 8gb ram, two hdd's, full hd displays, HDMI AND VGA outputs, for £1600 including VAT

Apple, for now where NEAR that spec, are at £2380+

The point at which the MBP line has become a rip off has come, and is WELL gone. We're now in the realm of the insulting.

'The New Macbook Pro Family'

That's a damn lie, and it has been for many months.

You know it's true when something exceeds your ability to understand how it works, it sorta becomes magical

...and that's exactly what this thread is all about.

The day the apple killer was announced.

:p

What? The Macbook Pro's cycle isn't yearly, it's the better part of 7 months, which we are just passed.

!!!!!

Whhhaaaa? Is this true??? I was thinking it was yearly. Well if this is true I am torn. One I'm excited that macbook pros might be coming soon, and also even more angry about the debacle that was yesterday's non-announcement!!!

(I have a family member that works for intel)

If you can afford to wait, i would. The 15' and 17' will likely have the choice of an i5 or i7. The 13 could have an i3 which would perform significantly better than a core2. As for when its going to happen... today, tomorrow, next week, 16, 26, 28. Nobody knows but steve jobs who is probably sitting on his couch using a core i7 mbp laughing at us all.

I've looked at that buyers guide before but I've only paid attention to the when you should buy part. I've just now noticed it tells you the average update time as well.

You guys probably should have let me just go on believing it would be June. At least then I would be calm, with low expectations, and pleasantly surprised when Apple released the new macbook pros "early." :p

I have a very difficult time believing June is when we will see an update. I can't see Apple making a major overhaul of the Macbook Pros which have been a very successful product for them. What I can see is them updating the processors to the newer i5 and i7 and also updating the graphics chip to the new Nvidia 'Optimus'. I also expect them to release lower end models that only use the onboard graphics chip.

I am sure Apple is already working with the i5 and i7 internally and I would imagine that they already have 'Optimus' reference boards from Nvidia. They certainly could already be testing out these configurations. I may be oversimplifying a bit... but that shouldn't take until June for a release. By then the competition will have sold thousands of laptops with this exact same configuration... it just doesn't make sense.

I am a long time Macintosh user, I had a 2005 Power Book G4 which finally died back in December (I dropped it one too many times) and still have a Power Mac 9600 from 1997 which still works, but isn't usable with modern software. Since the Power Book broke, I have been holding out for a MBP but waiting for the update. Currently, all of my photos are on an external hard drive. My iPod was in Windows format all along (on my wife's Quad-Core Gateway desktop) so that isn't an issue, but I am really getting tired of waiting. If Apple doesn't update the MBPs by the end of the month, I am afraid I just can't wait any longer and will need to "jump ship". My wife's computer runs Windows 7 and while it is nowhere near OS X, it is certainly a huge improvement over Vista. I have been looking at the Sony laptops, Core i7, with Blu Ray, full-HD screen and HDMI. I would like the Blu Ray player since I have a growing collection of Blu Ray movies as a result of my Playstation 3. I am also looking at the Lenovo w700 and T510. I use a company-issued Lenovo T61p as my work laptop and really like everything about it, except that it runs windows. The sad thing is, both the Sony and Lenovo use current processor technology and cost less (the lenovo, only a little less, but still less). I really hope Apple updates these by the end of the month, but I am prepared to switch to Windows if they don't.....

Right, but that average includes the PowerBook line as well, I'm only talking about the Macbook Pro line.

If you're only talking about the Macbook Pro line it looks like the average is probably a little bit less than 200 days.

Either way, we're past due for a revision...

Not really, look at the buyers guide. 1/2006-10/2006, ~270 days(discounting 4/2006 because that was just a release of a 17" model, not an update to the existing models), then 10/2006-6/2007,~240 days, then 6/2007-2/2008,~240 days, then 2/2008-10/2008,~225 days, then 10/2008-6/2009,~240 days. So on average, ~ 243 days, we're just past that.

Always a good plan - to pay off those credit cards each month. You would be amazed how much stress and worry can be removed from your life by being debt free. We have 0 debt. We paid off the house before the housing crisis, we always pay off credit cards and we own both cars outright. And before someone gets all pissy about it, the house is a ****** tract home and one of the cars is 10 years old. But still, it feels good. Try it some time, you'll like it.

I have kept my 12" rev A Powerbook going for, what is it now 7 years? It is finally time to replace it, but I can wait for the next update. And yes I will pay cash.

ok, I was counting 4/2006. which would give an average of 203 based on approximates you gave.

All this anticipation and worries and rumors is the most important part of so called "Apple experience" (they also call it "think different"). If you do not like it you might not be the right person for Mac :D

cmd+R

I don't know how do they do it at Apple to make consumerism so appealing, but I've been refreshing the apple store every 5 min. since yesterday. Plain stupid, maybe embarrassing.

Does not sound really that appealing to me (5 minute refreshes) ;)
