quit posting these lame chats with sales agents (if they're even real). i feel like i'm back on crackberry.com. those agents don't know a thing, so stop bothering them.

now back to the topic at hand: all MBPs are shipping in 1-3 business days instead of 24 hours now. has it been like that for a while now or not? i haven't checked. i just thought they usually ship within 24 hours, so if that indeed has changed, it may be more evidence of an imminent update. i dont know how the rumor got started that they might update them last tuesday, but if they are going to update them soon, which we all expect them to based on their average life cycle in the buyer's guide, then they might just be waiting til after v-day. :apple:

They were shipping in 24 hours yesterday, hopefully that is a good sign.

Edit: they are still shipping in 24 hours, only add-ons extend the time

yeah. my bad. i actually thought of that, but when i went back to the standard configuration, it still said 1-3 business days. i guess i didn't give it long enough to transition back. oh well.

whoa now chill out friend i know everyone is tense about this ive been waiting for a YEAR! just brightening up the mood!

but anyways when i posted up the chat about comparing computers the girl was like they cant compare at this time?...hmmm that doesnt make sense to me does it? shouldnt they compare it if they want to make a sale! or is the fact that theyre gonna put out the new line soon!?

just something to think about!

Today my Microcenter "stock on hand" check shows down to 2 on hand for most on the models, so they still have not restocked.

Macbook pro refresh DEEP thoughts

I think apple will refresh their entry level macbook pros (13 and entry 15) with only higher speed core 2 duos. But will give option of i5 for macbook pro 15 and i7 for macbook pro 17. I am predicting this from the iMacs that were just updated in November (entry levels 21.5 and 27 have high speed core 2 duo 3.06ghz but only highest end 27 offers i5 or i7).

In other words don't expect Apple to stick i5 in Macbook pro 13 (maybe i3) because that would actually make them faster than the entry level 3.06ghz iMacs which would be a serious marketing error (similar price mac laptop can't be faster than similar price mac desktop).

According to history, apple's iMac line up has been quite similar to Macbook pros.

So they'll ingore technical evolution because of marketing reasons.
A lot of people would turn their backs on them in pursuit of an up to date product.

The iMac refresh was done last year. January changed the game with the introduction of the mobile Core i[357] parts. All other OEMs are now shipping those processors in their laptops.

If Apple does what you say they will do, their offer will not be competitive. At all. Not even close. 1199$ for a Core 2 Duo in 2010 is ridiculous.

Not to mention screw the iMac. Apple makes money from Macbooks, not desktops. It's in their best interest to keep the line up to date. iMac can get the Arrandales in their next refresh, which will be du around June.

no updates are imminent.
even if they are I won`t believe it.

the ()book is dead, long live the ()pad.

The longest release cycle of the MBP has been 287 days. If we take this into account, the new MBP would be here by March 22 at the latest. Honestly, i don´t think it´ll take that long.

Apple doesn't sell Macbook Pros with Core i5s. While his analogy was wrong, disturbing Apple customer service with questions about unannounced products is both futile and immature.

Yes indeed, very immature of consumers worried about whether they're mis-spending their hard earned cash on product about to be replaced by a newer model. Tut tut you guys, grow up. Just spend your cash now on the first thing you see, like a real adult.

Again, since you seem to be stuck in egotistical "mememe" mode :

..is both futile and immature.

So yes, since it is futile, it is very immature. What are you accomplishing exactly ? After all is said is done, you've wasted your time, and you've wasted the Rep's time. Before you called, you were worried about whether to spend your hard earned cash. After you called, you're still worried about spending that cash and you've wasted someone else's time which results in longer wait times for other customers with real questions.

So yes, grow up. It's a laptop. If you need it that badly, go with the current model. If you don't, why are you worried ? It's going to get updated sooner or later, you can pull trigger when it does.

I agree, bothering the customer service with questions they are not allowed to answer or don´t even know themselves, is immature. I for myself will wait a bit longer. If they update it until then, fine, if not, i´ll take the old model. I wouldn´t buy a MBP until the end of this month. At the latest they´ll get updated in mid march i think.

Hormones I guess..:D

Chances are I won't wait past Sunday. Because I'm ordering it online--it'll probably ship to me around Tuesday or Wednesday. If they haven't refreshed it then, I don't think they'll refresh it anytime this month. If they HAVE, I can still return for 100% original value if I haven't opened it.

But here is a big question for me--battery life. Can anybody tell me a practical example of how long it lasts (both for lifespan and duration)? I have no idea where their 7 hour benchmark comes from.

It's really the tipping point--higher end Sony VAIOS with i5 processors seem to have only 4 hours life. Macbook pros have 7.

Would those numbers be the same if both machines were working on maximum settings?

MBP's have lithium polymer batteries. most laptops are still on lithium ion. LiPoly are better. I think HP makes a few models with LiPoly as an option
