2002 called, they want their flawed arguments back.
Care to elaborate?

Just posted this in a similar topic down in the notebook area however this seems to be where the partys at!
As we don't have Best Buy here in the UK (unless you count the local pound land shop called Best Buy) I cannot comment on what's happening there but I've just had a very interesting conversation with a stock manager in my local Comet store. (For those who don't know, Comet is a large home electronics retailer in the UK).
After I enquired if they stocked the 15" MacBook's in store, because they only have the 13" on display she advised they'd not had any in store for off the shelf purchase since Christmas. They've not even had their display models replaced. All orders have been ordered into store for the customer, or delivered directly to their home.
On checking availability for me, she found the existing 15" models were all listed as "withdrawn" meaning she could not order any into store however there is 'limited' availability for home delivery. (A few models including the mid 15" and MacBook Air's show out of stock on Comets website).
As she showed me the stock availability screen, she pointed out six new MacBook place holders named MacBook 10Q1 01 (and so on up to 10Q1 06) which all had a placeholder price of £2000. Although she obviously couldn't give any detailed info she said they only appeared when they actually had them on order or in the warehouse but were not on general sale meaning they'd could be out within 'days' but could also be anytime up to the end of March (end of Q1).
These were also NOT for the iPad as there were several other listings for MacTablet 10Q2.
At doing what, exactly?
As I see it, software drives component changes because it is more and more demanding. Other consumer products are/have adopted new technologies too (HDMI, Blu-Ray etc). Try editing AVCHD video format on a C2D...it ain't pretty.
Interesting. I'm UK based too. A mate was told by someone in an Apple store that sometime in March would be the launch. I'm chomping at the bit to get one now. Would have bought a discounted current model from a store on Tottenham Court Road yesterday but someone beat me to it. Roll on the announcement!
Cheers,
jahman

Its actually quite the opposite. ATi, although their drivers are not really optimized for OpenGL, have 100% compliance with OpenGL and are not artificially crippled. The FireGL series, although they claim optimized drivers for Maya etc, according to Natcoll design school, it makes no difference.
nVidia on the other hand, cripple the OpenGL capabilities on GeForce chips so the Quadro cards have a higher perceived value. Quadro and GeForce cards are identical hardware wise. The only difference is in the drivers. You can get a Quadro workstation card by soft-modding a GeForce card. Voila - instant performance gain in OpenGL.

I was under the impression that the employees at the retail stores don't have that sort of information.
well, then buy a pc and dont come onto MAC!rumors and moan
actualy, why dont you just get a imac with i7, or a mac pro
You miss the point. I do not want a windows machine!
I like Mac OS - stability (among many other things). An iMac could work, but I lose portability. That's important to me (as an English person living in the US)...travel is always on the calendar, but fundamentally - I want it to fit in with my other lifestyle things. Yes - I like video editing (AVCHD), yes, I like Blu-ray and would love to have that. HDMI - the list goes on.
Mac Pro? Not that I can afford one, but same portability issues.
I guess I am moaning, but only because Apple IMHO are leaving a massive gap in the market. It is a shame they won't fill it.
I think Apple would fill the gap as you put it if they could
You know they can! It's not like I want something that has never been done, right?
$0.02 received and banked...now I can get both an iMac and a new MBP![]()
I'm still going to purchase one whether or not it has blu-ray, hdmi, etc. I want a MBP because its a MBP, not because I'm waiting for Apple to make their computers like PCs. PCs need all that extra stuff because they'll never be a Mac!
You may want to mention that to Steve [Blu-ray]...I think he has more than a passing interest.
I guess Sony, Panasonic and Canon etc were just not "thinking different" when it comes to AVCHD (only viewed native via Blu-Ray).
All the professional video Mac Pro using folks that have clients who demand Blu-ray content...they are wrong too.
Oh - and tell all the other PC manufacturers; Sony, Dell etc...that they completely missed the mark by putting these things in. Nobody needs them - right?!
HDMI - ALL the TV manufacturers got that wrong as well, I see.
Sounds like you are happy to pay an extra ~$1000 for mediocre hardware components...so long as it looks good (and you can call it Pro coz it says so on it)!
Steve is very happy with you!
BTW - Why are you going to buy a new one? What is wrong with your old one? It will do what you want..right? No need to upgrade.
Finally - for those who insist that Mac OS is the value add here...you can buy a Mac Mini with the SAME OS for $599. Less components..that means Apple sees its commercial value at around ~$300.
I'd rather be patient and get a better performing machine. It's not that the ones out now are not up to my standards, it's that in a week or two I'll be able to get exceptionally better performance for the same price. But I guess if the hardware in your machine doesn't mean much to you go ahead and get one now.You are more than welcome to keep on waiting for the next best thing. I'm going to get one now and start enjoying it. Perhaps by the time Apple gets it right by your standards, it'll be time to upgrade again. Meantime, I'll be loving my MBP, and you'll be empty handed and waiting...![]()

How long will you wait, Bob71? What if your "exceptionally better performing machine" doesn't materialize in one or two weeks? Several "one or two weeks" adds up to months eventually.
I'll wait any amount of time when a machine is past its product cycle. Thats the one thing that's not speculation, the product cycle is over, updates will most likely be within this month.
