some of us aren't crazy enough to spend all that money on the 2010 equivalent of a celeron processor
This analogy is offensive to Celeron. Celeron was a bargain priced CPU that turned out to be one of the original OC darlings (remember pin removal?) delivering the most bang for your buck at the time (1999-2000ish).

I am giving up on Apple and I am going to stick with PC.I have owned a PC my whole life without having any major problems. I can get a very nice laptop with many features nicer than what the MBP has, and probably better than what the new ones will have when they come out which might not be until September. No one has any real information about when they will come out. I was really excited about getting a MBP and I sat and waited patiently for quite a while and now I have reached my breaking point. Buyers remorse? Not too worried about that anymore. The waiters remorse has killed me for a while. I should have just bought a PC a while ago. I don't think the Mac OS is worth the extra money and the BS you have to put up with to get the newest stuff. HDMI, Blu-Ray, Bigger hard drive, more memory, 2010 i7 processor and all that for less money than the base 13" MBP. WTF!!!!!!! Maybe next time. My dell lasted about 5and a half years. i see lots of MBP users that are looking to replace their 2008 MBP because they are no longer working or are on their way out! I hope you feel just another year older on your birthday Steve you Dick!

ahah oh well
enjoy your pc, and all your viruses and nagging windows every 30 seconds
oh yeah you will have better specs, for sure
better OS? nope
without counting much worst poor battery life (very likely ) and being unable to put you laptop on your lap cause it is burning...enjoy
you get what you you buy...bye bye and dont come back

Kobewankenobi, It’s people like you that make Mac owner seem like arrogant asses. I personally like both Windows and Mac’s OS. I know most are bias due to this being a mac forum, but when people bash Windows for virus/spyware it’s only due to the end user being totally ignorant and clicking on every pop up and downloading things illegally. “If I click on the advertisement I will win a free trip to the Bahamas”. Not to mention if Mac was 90% of the market share I can almost guarantee the tides would be turned. Anyway I to really want this new update to come soon, I’m replacing a 2008 Macbook Pro, and for the price for what you get at this point it’s really not worth it, just my opinion. I really hope they come out soon!!

Oh please. You should hear how many Windows users talk about Macs and Mac users. The anti-Apple bile that emanates from much of that camp makes kobewankenobi look downright complimentary.

Yet Windows users are never referred to as "arrogant asses." Curious.

As for the rest of your post, I agree completely. Windows users typically get viruses because they are ignorant (and ignorant users = Microsoft's bread and butter), viruses would probably be a problem if OS X had 90% market share (thankfully this will never happen), and Apple needs to pull their heads out of the sand and update the MacBook Pros already. :)

Thank you!
So you pay the postage and they send you the newest OSX on an DVD?

So IF they release the mbp today tomorrow or another date you can buy without worrying about what if they release a new OSX in a month

They won't be releasing a new OSX for a while. Probably over a year.

Here in the Netherlands the shipping date is up to 3days!!! yesterday it was 24 hrs! the update is comming???
Or people are getting fed up of waiting and have just ordered the current MBP, and stock is running low.

Can't see them releasing a new MBP with the imminent release of the ipad, think the earliest now would be early summer.

well here in spain the reduced the delivery date too to 24 hours instead of 3 days and it doesnt make sense that they delivered faster because they are running low on stock..
anyway i asked here in a couple of shops where they sell macs and after insisting a bit they did tell me to wait the new ones should come out next month.. or thats what they said

Well maybe people in Spain have chose to wait, hence the short delivery time.

People read to much into things here, there will be no update before the summer, i'd put my mortgage on that.

Well then I hope you have other living arrangements. As many others have posted, Apple empolyees know just as much as we do...nothing

Whats your point here?

Anyhow;

For the last 3+ weeks people have been saying the update is today, yet there is no evidence of this at all, and no update.

Why would a company release 2 new products within weeks of each other, they want max sales of each and seeing as the ipad has been given a March release there is no chance they will risk sales of that by updating the MBP at the same time.

Times are hard and even Apple realise people would struggle to buy both.

I really didn't have a point, just tired of waiting:(
And the iPad and the MBP serve two different purposes. I don't see how either one would limit sales of the other.

One wonders what is going on at Apple. I always viewed Apple (rightly or wrongly) as an industry leader in a niche market, which has recently seen mainstream growth. So I wonder why, when Apple has achieved so much and converted so many, they now seemingly have taken a position which is no longer a leader. I can only assume that there is something wrong with the awaited new MBPs - otherwise why not put them out there with the newer technology?

I for one will not be buying an iPad, as it doesn't fit into anything I can use or need, and although there are probably many who will buy one and possibly a MBP (or any other Mac for that matter) at the same time, I have to believe that I am not alone. I really don't see that one will take sales from the other. iPad is a new product and sales will happen on it's own merits, and not based on whether or not a consumer needs/wants an upgrade - also based on the MBP refresh rate, Apple obviously don't expect to make all their sales on day one, the sales will come over a period of 7+ months.....

Like what then?

History is a big one. Apple has a good track record with its MBP line. Even going back to the powerbook line. Stretching the update to summer would make this cycle the longest by far. Apple's history give us no reason to believe the update will take longer than March.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/868883/

The new ram. Why would it be possible to buy 1333MHz MB ram today if the update wasn't going to be until summer?

It really just makes the most sense that an update would be sooner rather than later. What evidence do you have that suggests a summer update?

It's definitely a good especially for a die-hard mac user just like myself. But however, what dissapoints me is that sometimes there's a long waiting period before I reaches my place.

If you look at other similar formfactor laptops, such as the HP Envy line, you'll see many complaints such as heat problems and battery life issues...and this is a laptop series without even an optical drive and has several cooling fans. Considering Apple probably doesn't want to ship a Pro product with a gimped GPU, they may be having difficulties getting heat and battery life to an acceptable level for their standards. What a lot of people in this thread seem to be overlooking, Apple isn't just going to be selling the MBP based on what processor they crammed in there. They market the whole thing as a package, with certain features expected of it as a whole. If someone wants a portable with low battery life and that gets hot enough that it has fans whirring constantly and is too hot to hold, by all means, go for the HP.

Now, why anyone would be waiting around and frothing at the mouth to buy brand-new Apple rev. A hardware is something that is lost on me. I guess some people just don't pay attention to history.

i think that the delay regarding mbp are probably due to problem that the new processor may cause, (overheating) or just they needed more time to figure out a good compromise between the intel graphic and discrete. Since the nvidia/intel issue is pretty new (?) and they might have planned to use nvidia but they cant now and need to find a good way to implement intel graphics?
apple may include nvidia new optimus and maybe has to wait for that?
there could be ton of reason in delaying a product , i am sure apple wants to release them asap but is just not ready
as long as the mbp have no problems when they come on the market i m happy to wait more
i wont buy an ipad either until they give me usb connection (which probably will never happen) and bigger hd, too bad it would be a great device for me if it had just those 2 things

Well guys, i finally went out and bought my first mac, a Macbook Pro. It was new open box and had no power cord or any of the software. BestBuy dropped it to 799.99 for me, and I bought the power cord. Then I called Apple, and they are cool enough to send me the software. It is the 2.66 15" with the 9600 Nvidia. I am still waiting for the refresh though, as I intend on buying my wife the 13" model when they come out. I understand that Apple is late getting these new models out, but I hope they get it right when they do. The long battery life on a laptop trumps power in my opinion, and my new MBP gets a good 6-7.5 hrs. An i5 in the 13 would be nice, but I wonder about the graphics, and will the 13 have a discreet video card or just integrated. Thanks for your comments guys, love the site.

Ignorant is the only word for you. I have never lost anything from a virus in 20 years of using a PC. Have others? sure they have but as another person said that is the stupid people out there that click on stuff that allow viruses in. I will give you that the OS is better with Mac but Windows 7 is getting pretty good reviews. I am going to say that I am settling but I will not settle with the current MBP. As for the battery this confirms your stupidity and the fact that you have drank the Apple Kool-aide and beleive that there is nothing that even compares to a Mac. Of the people that I know that own a MBP, none of them actually see the advertised 7 hour battery life and I am sure that the advertised 7 hour battery life or the PC I am buying will be the same. I don't see how you can say a 7 hour mac battery is better than a 7 hour Sony battery. Enjoy your Kool-Aide dumbass

I must say that the majority of the Mac users on here have been very helpful and have provided some valuable information. Good luck in the waiting game hope they come out soon for you all.
