There is still so much hype about the iPad and it is front and center on their homepage. Why would they want to take away from it and release something us enthusiasts need when the masses want a glorified etch-a-sketch (I'm being sarcastic. I think the iPad is pretty cool, but I have no use for it.).

A refresh wouldn't have to take away any hype... Just change the specs and start selling!

When they updated the plastic MacBook to the plastic Unibody MacBook couple months ago, I don't recall that featuring front page.

Assuming there's no massive change other than CPU/GPU's then little need to feature it on the front page. The recent iMac update featured redesigned iMac's and new screen sizes which warranted it a front page feature.

Odds are that if a refresh for the MBP is announced today, it would probably only take up one of the little placeholders below the main section of the front page (currently anchored with the iPad). I wouldn't expect much of a form factor update, just more of a speed bump with some new tech features.

But, then again, I'll take whatever they give. I am hurting to replace my MBP. I really want to avoid buying the current gen if a refresh is so seemingly imminent.

So- this tuesday nothing happens? Is that sure now?

afraid not

still c2d

Anybody who desperately wants a MBP should just buy it, instead of driving themselves crazy:rolleyes:

Agreed that the form factor is still fresh, so any change will be CPU/GPU related, throw in maybe a larger hard drive.

The "better" specs are going to be minute or are we saying that we can feel the difference between 2.26 and 3.06 when we are doing spread sheets write letters, e-mails and internet etc.

If you are a serious film buff and need that kind of speed get a MacPro anyway.

Apple should IMO wait and add HDMI, work on implementing more support for HD and BlueRay and I wouldn't be surprised if they developed their own chip like they did with the A4 for the ipad.

Whenever you buy, it's obsolete as soon as you hit the place order button:)

I don't NEED a new computer, but a refresh gives me a reason to buy one :D

Better to wait and get the newest model. Why settle for last gen stuff when you know an update is coming soon? Unless, of course, you need a new laptop badly.

The update is right around the corner, I would wait.

well what about that guy who said his mbp wasnt send when it was due and was going to be send today? i still think we should wait for a bit longer..

As much as i want it to happen i really dont think its gonna...

I'm sitting here credit card in hand ready to place my order the second it becomes available (dosnt help that my current MBP is still waiting to get repaired).

Please apple prove me wrong, getting sick of checking your website every 15 minutes lol

Not today

I'd venture to say its not going to happen. As you've probably read from other in the forum, there is a process, or cues that will let you know (i.e. - the site being down for new product upload). This generally happens on tuesdays, and has been for many years.

The group in this forum will always be clamoring for a refresh of every Mac product, even the day after a new one comes out. There's always an improvement or some item on a wish list (ex; blu-ray) that is not included in the current version. Always.

If you need it, get it. If you can wait, and not drive yourself crazy (even though it is kind of fun), then hang out and pass the time. But because NONE of us really know, you could be waiting for a long time. Or they could come out next tuesday.

I think I might just buy the Macbook Unibody White 13inch. Does anyone what the bottom end new Macbook Pro is likely to cost? Is it likely to cost the same as the existing bottom end Macbook Pro or do you think it will rise to take it away from the more basic Macbook?

Macbook 13 White Unibody is currently £816
Macbook Pro Bottom End is £918.

If the new bottom end Macbook Pro is also £918 then I might wait for that. If not and it is likely to be considerably more in cost then I might just get the Macbook White.

Anyone have an educated guess on the above?

Thanks

I have been reading the forums for about a month now waiting on the updates to come but still nothing.

I think I will go ahead and order one of the current models as my powerbook g4 is really down in the dumps at this stage.

If I buy from the likes of amazon do I still get the 7 or 14 days were I can return it in case they do turn around with a new model in that time or is that only available from the apple store?

I just have to decide now whether I want a 13" MBP or will a MB do for now.

I am checking the refurbs very often. If a 13" MBP shows up I might just grab it and go with it. To be honest the current is more power than I need now. If the time comes that I really need more power I will be in a place where I can afford an new MacBook Pro and use the "old" one as a back up.

A rat's nest of 1394 and USB cables is not the same as an internally
expandable mini-tower.

If it doesn't have PCIe slots so that you can add most anything,
it's not "expandable". If adding a second hard drive means an
external cabinet and multiple extra cables, it's not "expandable".

If adding a second optical drive means an external cabinet and multiple
extra cables, it's not "expandable".

How do I connect my eSATA RAID tower to the mini-Mac?

Wait is that eSATA RAID tower external to your system? ;)

I get your point, but your example is kinda silly. :D
