Is there anybody here who is also waiting for a REAL mac tablet pc ( no toy like the ipad) with pressure sensitive pen? That would serve best for me, with a new mbp like the old c2d´s I would have to buy a separate wacom tablet like the cintiq 12 or Intuos 3- expensive and bulky luggage

Nope

if it doesn't make sense to Uncle Stevie, it will never be produced by Apple. There's no way he'll let anything, including MBP refreshes, steal the thunder from his pet project. I'd like to be proven wrong, but i'm sure we won't see MBP refreshes until after the iPad is released.

In the meantime, I will hold on to the money that I wanted to spend on an MBP and wait for the product line to be updated.

Wait is that eSATA RAID tower external to your system? ;)

I get your point, but your example is kinda silly. :D

The RAID tower contains drives 6,7,8,9 and 10 - 10 TB of 2.5 Gbps goodness ;) .

The point of mentioning eSATA is to expand to an interface not present in
the base system - even if that is for an external device.

If you can *only* add external devices, it doesn't fit my
definition of "expandable". ;)

Oh I totally get it. I consider myself the owner of one of the last true 15 inch MacBook Pro models because it actually has an Expresscard/34 slot. Yes they are slow, but give me more options than a pointless SD Card slot.

I am hoping Apple drops the silly consumer grade SD slot for Esata, Firewire 3200, Lightpeek, USB 3.0, or even Expresscard 2.0 in future models of the Macbook Pro.

How do the initial releases of Apple products usuaully do? With apple is it worth it to wait awhile after a new product is released? If that's the case then buying the current model may have some advantages.

All I can say is that if I knew in Nov what I know now, I would have just bought the mid range MBP for photo work back then. But as luck would have it as I was about to pull the trigger I read on a different forum that there was an update expected in Jan. So now we're in March, and I could have had a MBP for almost 4 months... Anycase the wait has meant there is now Aperture 3, which is some consolation, and Nikon seem to have updated NX2 to work with SL. But having read a lot of comments over these 4 months I really wonder if the new one (whenever it comes) will really be sooo much better than the present model for my purposes or are we likely just talking minimal differences - any thoughts, anybody?

Mike

Haven’t updated for that abnormally long time, I think there will be something that apple want to surprise us, won't be a merely spec. update:eek:

this is exhausting. Heading to Fry's to get a mini for 499.00 and hook it up to my 24" Cinema Display. I need something to get me by for a couple months. My 3 year old Macbook died last week. Today was about the last chance of a MBP update for a while, now it's all about that worthless gayPad.

Yep, my guess is now June, with a media event to announce the new MBP line up, once all the dust settles from the iPad launch and they've had more time to sort things out with their suppliers.

Time to settle in with my existing collection of Mac's and enjoy them ... getting caught up in this fury of anticipating Apple's update plans is a waste of time.

or maybe Apple doesn't want Rev 1 hardware anymore. Intel is always silently upgrading their CPU's as they fix errors

or they're changing to AMD. Which might be a possibility because the OSX86 crowd says the the CPUID patching is easier with Snow Leopard (The CPUID has the information of what the processor is and what the processor can do, by default there is an Intel restriction(?)). So what if AMD isn't the best? They provide the best overall solution. The 785G chipset is a features bonanza. lls for it.

the way computer sales are growing at Apple i wouldn't want to buy one before WWDC anyway. i think another price cut may be coming

Wtf!

Do I wait or do I buy? I am having trouble with this question. I had my information entered in on the billing of both a MBP and a HP ENVY but pulled back. I hate to buy a MBP only to have it it updated in a couple months but I do not want to wait any longer. It also no longer feels like it could be next Tuesday. I now am wondering if a HP with all the new Technology we have been hoping would come out in the new MBP is better than a MBP without any of the new stuff. Thoughts? I am ready to own my first MBP and really like the thought of what Apple has to offer (Mac OS) but at the same time I am not excited about what they are not offering and every other major laptop manufacturer offers.

The update is coming soon, so you are better off waiting.

Until today, this is the second longest period (in terms of days) between any two consecutive Macbook Pro refreshes.

The last refresh was on Monday June 08, 2009, which means 267 days ago.
The longest refresh took 287 days. It was on Monday January 31, 2005.

So, if we don't see a refresh for the MBP line in 20 days from now, this will be the longest update ever for a MBP model.

I wish all this waiting is worth it.

This waiting is killing me even though i didnt think they were going to be updated today. I am really tempted to pull the trigger on a 2.8 ghz mbp now. For my uses, (word processing, web browsing, itunes, and other student related activities) I am wondering if an i5 or i7 would even benefit me much..

Why would it be a 'media event'? The only reason it's going to be a media event is if they're changing the basic design (like when they rolled out the unibody or the 7 hour battery).

This is going to be a quiet refresh.
