Current MacBook Pro Models Deleted From Best Buy's Inventory System? Updates Imminent?

This waiting is killing me even though i didnt think they were going to be updated today. I am really tempted to pull the trigger on a 2.8 ghz mbp now. For my uses, (word processing, web browsing, itunes, and other student related activities) I am wondering if an i5 or i7 would even benefit me much..

Even if you don't need i5/i7 power for your daily tasks, the inevitable upgrade will almost certainly result in lower prices for current models. You're better off waiting. At the very least you'll save some money on a C2D machine.

I want a laptop that will stay with me for a good 3-5 years, so I'm leaning towards MBP. Sick sick sick of Windows.

Just need it for school, photoshop (banners), seo, internet marketing, blogging etc. I wont be rendering Shrek 5 but I will be editing 30sec-1min clips for work from a flip cam.

May want to play MW on it.

Should I wait for this update? Will this update's features (or the features that are rumored) be of any additional significance to what I want it for? Should I really care about the gpu switching?

Didnt read this. Thanks for the info.. now i'm 40 buy 60 wait :D

Hello. I've been reading this forum and this topic for a few days now. I stumbled upon it as I was researching the Macbook Pro.

The thing is I'm currently a PC/Windows user and with my college and the needs that come with that, my current laptop is acting up and it seems to beg for a change. And I might sound shallow but I'm absolutely in love with the MBP design and I'm thrilled with its current specs.

What I mean to ask...the new processors it is rumored to receive...judging from their radical structure changes in the other Apple products lately...isn't there a possibility of problems arising? At least, I read that many times when they redone a system, there's always the first batch with problems.

Am I just speaking rubbish?! I hope not. Because I'm tempted more every day to just place the order and prepare to greet my MBP...even with the risk of a major update in a few months from now...

Would i5 or i7 even benefit me? Correct me if i am wrong, my understanding is that i5 i7 is going to benefit hardcore video/photo editors and gamers. For someone like me who just needs to run multiple webpages at once, word process, and take care of my ipod, do i need an i5 or i7 or will a c2d processor suit me just fine?

Well we could be seeing an update in as soon as two weeks.
I say just tough it out. Thats exactly what im doing.

you're not going to see a huge difference with those tasks, no, but there's absolutely no reason not to wait unless you're incapable of doing so for a month or two at the most. The biggest factor in any computer buying decision should be based (in my opinion) on price/performance and future-proofing. With an i5/i7 machine, you're better off in the long run because you never know what kind of tasks you'll be doing down the road. Although even i5/i7 is already getting outdated, with apple it's going to be the best you can get for a while. Really no reason not to wait at this point unless you're absolutely DYING for a mbp NOW.

Running virtual machines? Then wait.

Really no reason not to wait at this point unless you're absolutely DYING for a mbp NOW.

The Core i* systems have some hardware assists for virtualization
that can make a big difference if you're running VMware.

(Maybe Parallels as well, but I only have experience with VMware.)

Yeah im not dying for one now. I need one for college in August. I guess im just being overzealous because my parents said I could get one whenever I wanted lol. As much as it kills me to say it, I know that im going to wait for arrandale even if it doesnt come out until June. :(

Why would it be a 'media event'? The only reason it's going to be a media event is if they're changing the basic design (like when they rolled out the unibody or the 7 hour battery).

This is going to be a quiet refresh.

they do not need a complete design overhaul. Apple last held an event where the 13 and 15 inch mbps got built in batteries. A media type event sounds reasonable to me.

I placed the order on the 12th of Feb. originally I was supposed to have it by the 22nd, on the 23rd I received an email that it would be delayed and wouldn't ship until 3/2 but Apple said it still could ship anytime before that and to keep checking.

I logged in on Friday to see if it shipped and then the big red message was at the top saying to call... I called and that's when she told me about it being delayed further because of product transition..

But the original order was placed on the 12th or so, Apple had it as of Feb 16th..

I wonder if this guy's order shipped yet or if it is still delayed. An update would be most appreciated.

i never had a mac,i want to buy a mbp.should i waite for the new one or just buy one now.i dont need it for anything other then just to have,so do i need this updated version or just get whats out now.

Another option would be to buy a refurbished MacBook Pro. You save a good chunk of money. That way when the updates come, you haven't lost much. I've purchased many refurbished computers from Apple and highly recommend it.

I am thinking about exactly that...
I currently have a white MacBook, one that has still the FW port. It has 2.1GHz, 4GB RAM and a 500GB HD. I am doing music production, and the machine gets too slow - I run Cubase, and if I load up several amp sims and reverbs, the CPU goes down. I really want an upgrade, especially also with a bigger screen!
I just wonder - I can get a 17'' MBP refurbed now for 1800 Euro (new one is 2300 Euro)... how big is the increase in CPU performance from a 2.1GHz MB to the 2.8GHz MBP? Both is Core2Duo... is it worth waiting and spending 2300 Euro on the next gen when it comes out (at some point in this milennium...) or should I jump for the refurbished MBP? How big is the estimated performance boost from a Core2Duo 2.1GHz to 2.8GHz MBP and from there to a i5/i7 model? Can anybody give me an "educated guess" what I have to expect from both models, compared to my 2.1GHz MB?

Same here. But I'm really, really hoping it comes out before then, because if it turns out that I save up the money I need and it's still not out, I'll go nuts. I'm not exactly in the same boat as everyone else since I'm not in a position to even buy one yet, but I can imagine what it feels like to have money and be ready to buy, yet know that you should wait. COME ON APPLE

looks like im now in the market for a new macbook pro as ive been hit my the famous logic board failure from the macbook pros made in late 2007. so now i have my ipod touch as my computer while i wait and see if im going to have to fork out a load of cash to get it repaired!

ive run out on applecare so sounds like it might be expensive to get fixed hence why im thinking of an upgrade.

any thoughts....

help!

Ok, heres my situation I can buy a new MBP 15" now for significant discount however I will only get it for another week or two, ive thought about just ordering the current macbook pro and getting the discount or waiting for the new one and using student discount.....any ideas?

Since Apple doesn't make a 14" laptop, the claim "both models
turn out to be heavier" is nonsense.

Why the hell, then, did you bring up the issue of weight in the first place?

considering that the 14" Dell E6400 is lighter than the 13"
MacBook Pro, and the 15" Dell E6500 is lighter than the 15"
MacBook Pro.

The 13" Dell E4300 is less than 75% of the weight of the 13" MBP,
and is only 4mm thicker (including the 3mm rubber feet on the bottom).

Hypocritical nonsense, as usual.

The model prior to the E6400, the D630 and D620 were much better. Those are solid laptops. We have a bunch in the field and they can take a beating. The E6400s, not so much.

Cal

Agreed, the build quality of both the E6400 and E6500 is inferior to that of the D620 and D630.

Why anyone would prefer to squander ~$700 for a flimsy laptop of substandard build quality, waiting-to-break, instead of investing in something more reliable and durable: Lenovo, Asus, Apple, etc., remains puzzling, IMO.

You're right. You can't. The Dell appears to be a clunky, blocky POS. Keep trying though, it's amusing. By all means, keep trying to prove "quality" by spitting out technical specifications.

And 'keep trying' he will.

Amusing it is, pathetically speaking.

You two clash so badly.

Its like you're a proton and hes a positron.
