Just adding up the evidence which is all anyone can do.

New hardware requires updates to the OS. The OS release appears to be imminent. You won't see the new machines until the new OS, 10.6.3, addresses the new hardware. Multiple shortages of the machines and sales to get rid of the rest have been reported in multiple places.

Again, just adding it up and making a prediction. Why not!?

This isn't true. Apple could issue a special build of 10.6.2 for the new Macbook Pro's. They have done this before.

I know that! I will spell out io you they will announce a new Mac Book Pro at WWDC and will start selling it in the late summer in time before fall school schedules.

Not likely. How often does Apple pre-announce products? Usually only when they absolutely have to.

It isn't Apple's way to announce things that you can't go out and buy right now. They've only done this with 2 products.

One was the iPhone, and that was because they had to submit it to the FCC for spectrum testing well ahead of release - and they wouldn't be able to keep it a secret once they'd submitted it.

The other is the iPad, and that's because they had to open up the field for app and content development to a wider selection of developers so that buyers have apps and books and newspapers to read on it when it's released. They can't keep it a secret as long as they've exposed it to that many outside developers.

There is absolutely no reason for Apple to ever pre-announce a Mac, unless it's just a particular version of a new model rev that's going to be delayed (eg 24" iMac ships right now, 27" iMac ships in 2 weeks), and that's just to keep the product rev annoucement consistent.

For the record, I think we'll see a MBP rev any day now. Nothing incredibly new, and I don't think they'll rev anything that doesn't have a 9600 chip in it. IOW, within a week or two I think this is what the MBP line will look like:

13" Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz with 9400M graphics
13" Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz with 9400M graphics
15" Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz or 2.8GHz with 9400M graphics (this one is iffy - maybe not)
15" i5/i7 with discrete graphics chip, low GHz
15" i5/i7 with discrete graphics chip, high GHz
17" i5/i7 with discrete graphics chip, high GHz

And I don't think we're going to see NVidia Optimus in this rev (too soon and not ready), and I think the i5/i7 machines will just use the discrete graphics chip by default and we'll see any i5/i7 power savings used up by that.

Agreed on the i5 and i7, not so sure when it comes to the lower end models though

I think/hope that the 13" mbp will get an update as well, otherwise the sales will drop dramatically... Or who would buy an 13" mbp without cpu/gpu update!?

why too soon?
it is already 1 month that asus is selling laptop with optimus
am i wrong?

The only reason I say this is because of the whole QPI/NVidia debacle. It doesn't seem like Apple would leave MBP owners on the low end with crummy integrated graphics that can't be used with OpenCL. But the alternative - to leave low end MBP owners with crummy Core 2 Duo CPUs doesn't seem very attractive either. And putting discrete graphics chips in all the MBPs would eliminate a market differentiator for Apple.

I'm just speculating, like everyone here. ;-)

Well apple doesnt get a choice unless it wants to buy a licence for nVidia or change to the AMD 'Dragon' platform or to the AMD 'Fusion' platform when its released.

Well, that was my point. Apple's line up used to be

13" good CPU + good integrated graphics
13" good CPU + good integrated graphics
15" good CPU + good integrated graphics
15" good CPU + good integrated graphics + good discrete graphics
15" good CPU + good integrated graphics + good discrete graphics
17" good CPU + good integrated graphics + good discrete graphics

Good CPU + good integrated graphics is no longer an option for anyone in the Intel world, so now Apple must choose between

13" good CPU + bad integrated graphics
13" good CPU + bad integrated graphics
15" good CPU + bad integrated graphics
15" good CPU + bad integrated graphics + good discrete graphics
15" good CPU + bad integrated graphics + good discrete graphics
17" good CPU + bad integrated graphics + good discrete graphics

Or

13" bad (old) CPU + good integrated graphics
13" bad (old) CPU + good integrated graphics
15" bad (old) CPU + good integrated graphics
15" good CPU + bad integrated graphics + good discrete graphics

with a much lower price spread between the different models.

We all know AMD's CPU line up isnt as powerful as Intel's but if were stuck with GMA Id much rather have the AMD system.

I just am stoked for my SSD drive next week. My regular aluminum
macbook will be speedy. =) I can't wait till they update the MBP
though, that will be pretty rad. I am going to start saving in a few weeks,
that way after the hoopla of them cools down I can snag one with my
student discount. Should be like 6 months before I will be shopping
for one.

They better drop by then! LOL.

Personally I think the MBP's will be announced very soon, even as soon as Tuesday 16th, I do not think they will announce it and release it at a later date, they do not need to do this with the MBP. I do think that the Mac Pro will be updated at the same time as the MBP's.

I say roll on Tuesday 16th, I have been without my MBP for 3 weeks now due to a failed logic board. :(

...also this is just speculation of what I have learnt in the past few years trends of apple announcing products.

The "Space Egg" Imac was announced in May of 1998, and didn't ship
until August 1998.

Although it didn't target specific new models, the WWDC announcement
that Apple was abandoning the RISC platform for Intel chips
in effect EOL'd the entire Apple computer product line.

Apple rarely pre-announces, but most of the people on MacRumours
were around when the Intel switch was announced. A few were
probably even old enough to read when the original Imac was announced.

Have you looked at Amazon top selling computers lately? Apple has number one and 3 in the top 10. A year ago the entire top 25 were all netbooks.

No, I have not! But (for me) this seems to make my point even stronger...

Apple is selling many 13" mbp at the moment, so:
(1) a drop in sales is "technically" possible ;) and
(2) if Apple would leave it with an c2d-cpu many customers could go for a 13" pc-notebook with iX-cpu just because these cpus are NEW and ANDVERTISED EVERYWHERE (no matter if they really need them or not...)

Say you asked the average consumer these 2 questions:
1) Do you know the mac guy/pc guy thing?
2) Do you know what a Core i3/i5/i7 is?

I say they can sell the current line just fine until summer or even later. The consumer cares about price, battery life, dimensions and looks. Specs come way later. Of course I'm with you man, would like to see updates to the whole lineup.

Agreed on this, but only if the whole lineup is left unchanged... Compared to an updated 15" or 17" mbp (with new cpus) the 13" would look "old" and many customers can't/won't pay the price of the 15" and 17"...

But anyway... We'll see and let's HOPE!!! :D
