You will see a protoype for a fall release at WWDC. Apple is busy with the iPad (plus iPhone) and doesn't have time or resources to work on their bread & butter Macs.

WWDC is in the summer.

I parsed the original as:

You will see a prototype at WWDC, scheduled for a fall
release.

I disagree, though. Apple would kill MBP sales hard if they
showed a prototype. You won't see the new MBP until is ready
to order (or within a week or so).

When has Apple shown a prototype months before the product has
gone on sale - when it is an update to a line and not a new
product line? (Iphone and Ipad were new - no existing product
to be Osborne'd by the pre-announcement.)

One reason I still think new MBPs will come out before June is that Apple's back to school sale starts in June. Why would they launch new MBPs in June and have them on sale immediately?

Still Waiting

I've been following this thread for a while now and really been debating to just go ahead and buy the current MBP. After my 3rd visit to best buy in 3 weeks tonight, I've decided to keep waiting.

Even the best buy apple rep advised that I wait. They are almost completely out of stock here in my town in Texas. He said that apple does not go longer than 2 weeks without re-stocking...It's been a week and a half and still nothing. He says he thinks just a few more days.

Therefore, I'm thinking probably the 16th. I don't know how much longer I can take this.....

Anyone else heard any similar news?

I'm debating just buying the MacBook and adding 2 gigs of RAM to it.... Any thoughts are appreciated.

DO NOT BUY the current outdated overpriced MBP! If you need the MBP, wait for the new one. If you must have an Apple, get an iMac. If you must get a laptop, get a Sony or an HP. Windows 7 is fine and unless you are a fanboy, you can accomplish whatever you need with Windows.

Bottom line is that if consumers continue to buy outdated MBPs at the current price, Apple isn't going to change their anti-customer ways.

Strength in numbers kids. Keep the faith!

So you're going to force Apple to release updated MBPs by buying...Windows laptops?

Brilliant strategy.

No 13.3" MBP

I just realized after reading on several other websites that there might not be a 13.3" new MBP. They might discontinue it and only do the 15" and 17"

THIS IS TRAGIC!

Yes, and I'm sure the opinions there are just as reputable as the ones here. As in, no one has a goddamn clue what Apple plans to do.

What are you basing this on? Apple have released NO information regarding the upcoming laptops. Everything out there is just pure fanboy speculation... Apple dont announce their products till they are ready so their is no basis in the fact that the 13" may be discontinued

Yeah, that'll show 'em! I'm gonna buy a crappy HP laptop

It'd have a little more punch if you weren't getting twice the machine for less than half the price compared to the current MBP.

Steam and mainstream gaming coming to mac has a HUGE effect on the landscape. I would expect an update before steam launch, but maybe only by a week or so.

Update on Friday!?

What about an update on Friday!? I know it's not a Tuesday :) but it would be parallel to the start of the iPad "pre-order"...

Apple would have to make changes in their store for the "pre-order"-thing anyway, so they could update the mbp at the same time!?

And out of the "scores of iPad Pre-orderers" coming to the website, some of them would perhaps also buy a new mpb

What do you think!?

EDIT: And with a delivery time of two days it would perfectly fit to the SKUs of BestBuy (March 14th) ;)

(That's the definition of "not using your brain.")

Is this an opinion based on experience or based on the view that a laptop which isn't made by Apple is crap?

Went to my local best buy last night and the guy there was really trying to push me on a 15" MBP. I couldn't figure out why he was so determined to have me get that size until finally he admitted that they only had 1 remaining in stock and his manager had told him he could buy the floor model once the last one was sold. Now, I'm not an expert in Best Buy policies, but it seems to me that even if you sell out of the back stock, unless you're not expecting to get anymore you don't sell your display (you'd have to unpack a second for display and sell it at a discount too).

Take it for what it might be worth, for all I know the manager is just screwing with the kid, but I thought with everything else going on that it might lend the slightest credibility to the rumors of a forthcoming release.

Very good news. Best Buy would not be pushing so hard to sell their last 15 inch mbp so they could get rid of the floor model if there was not a refresh coming soon. Hopefully the 16th :apple:

That seems unlikely. There is a substantial market for a 13" professional device, so it wouldn't do Apple much good to discontinue the line. However, the 13.3" probably has the most to gain from an update given that the standard MacBook offers comparable specs for several hundred less (in fact a larger hdd). So for the difference in prices you're getting a better looking machine, longer battery life, and fancy keyboard... perhaps not enough for the average consumer. Throw a new i series intel chip in there, boost the size/speed of the base hdd, and the difference in price is worth it. Everything these days is speculative, nobody knows anything, and if you're truly concerned about the potential disappearance of the 13" MBP and that is the size you want, go get one. You're paying for older tech, but value is subjective, if it is the size you want, does the work you want, and you don't want to risk being stuck with a different size as your only option I'd pull the trigger now and go grab one.

I hoping for a rumored mac pro announcement on the 16th since Intel is releasing it's processors that date that are expected in the new mac pros, so maybe they announce the new laptops then as well?

Here's my prediction:

The rev'ed OS will be made available before Tuesday March 16 and the new MBP's will at least be announced on the 16th.

If there is no new OS by then there will be no MBP announcement.

Stop posting random dates without any explanation, please. It's pointless.

Just adding up the evidence which is all anyone can do.

New hardware requires updates to the OS. The OS release appears to be imminent. You won't see the new machines until the new OS, 10.6.3, addresses the new hardware. Multiple shortages of the machines and sales to get rid of the rest have been reported in multiple places.

Again, just adding it up and making a prediction. Why not!?
