Yeah I've never seen a theme that looks better than the stock look either.
I do wish Apple had added the ability for custom SMS tones though.
I think that picnic is better than the default Theme

The downfall to jailbreaking something is it wrecks ur warrinty that's all!! Good luck
i guess i'm a little unclear on what costs are incurred by jailbreaking. it strikes me as 100% benefit and no cost.
Besides being able to set a custom text tone, would it be that much harder to make it so you would be able to set separate tones for each person?
Why can't someone just create an app that can make custom text tones
So iOS4 didn't fix this?
I can't think of a good reason not to include an option for this.

It's not "simple" - rather it is pathetic and small minded. This is backwards thinking regarding functionality that should be free for any user to manage their phone as they wish, especially after paying godawful sums of money for it. And yet we must be forced to use our own phones as advertisement for the ever-greedy company? It's pretty simple actually. The sounds are iconic and apple knows that by forcing us all to use those sounds every text you get is an add for the iPhone. That is really the only reason. It actually is proven to increase profit.
You do know that
1. Jailbreaking nulls your warranty and you can't get ANY help with your iphone or ipod if you do it
2. It pretty much kills your battery and your phone lasts like half the time.
right?
Those are both negative enough for me that its not worth it.
Stop talking out yer a$$
You do know that
1. You restore back to stock and your fine. If you bring your phone somewhere to get looked at and you leave it in a JB state....well thats your own fault.
2. Maybe that is your experience with a JB, but i have never had any issues with my battery. It all depends on what you have running.
Im curious...did you in fact ever JB your phone?
I 100% agree, TayDub has been feed to much BS they are starting to spew it out on to others, every waranty is voided if your send back a product in an alterted state, but like jasvncnt says you restore it back to stock new phone phone using itunes and the jailbreak is erased, your not phyiscally changing hardware with a jailbreak its software and a restore erases all the jailbreak files. as far as battery you are wrong again mine is the same, now you can install tweaks/apps/widgets that use data/battery like weather widgets or video wallpapers so ya that uses more battery but that jailbreak itself is not using anything more

Finally! A voice of reason! LOL...Im so glad your on this forum...Thanks. I get tired of people just thinking they know this and that or just because they had a bad experience it must be like that for everyone. I say jailbreak it! If you dont like it for what ever reason....just restore.
exactly no harm in trying it out

YES you can without having to jailbreak.
Go to Contacts app, select & edit the person you'd like to assign a custom sms alert. Then under custom ringtone you'll find text tone field. Change it to a custom tone. TADA!
I don't know when apple added this but I just found it out. I'm running 4.3.3 using iPhone 3GS.
