Custom Text message alert sound (without jailbreaking)

i have iphone 4 running os5 and purchased a ringtone. I see it under ring tones but not under alert tones. I want to use it as an alert tone. what do I need to do. Thank you.

It looks like ringtones purchased from iTunes only appear in ringtones. Hadn't noticed that before today!

Hey! Apple could make it so that you can choose any ringtone for an SMS tone and I don't think it would be hard for them to implement.

And while you at it, just make ring tone to use mp3 file format? I'm getting tire of having to convert it while the Android people are having a good laugh at me.

Any App out there that lets one create a text tone and installing it without connecting to iTunes?
