Did you get it to work?

I figured it would work just like shandyman said. It's a "ringtone", but the ringtones are listed anytime you're choosing a ringtone *or* a text tone. Hell, they might even be listed when looking for alarm tones.

Yup it is listed for alarm tones too, I've got 3 different ones set from ringtones to wake me up in the morning :)

If you go into text tone, you'll have a list with 2 sections, alert tones and ringtones. The custom one you import should be under ringtones, which is right at the bottom. That's here mine are. If its not there then check you have imported it right.

my ringtones and text tones are seperate. they are both under sounds. but then they have their own catagory. it did import at a ringtone not a text or sms tone. what I did is when I tried to download it from your link I had a choice to save it or open it with iTunes. I tried both. the only way I could get it into iTunes was to open it with iTunes. then it was there only as a ringtone. it does work when I use it as a ringtone but I could not get it to go as a sms or text tone.

any ideas?

Yeah, but when you actually go into settings->sounds->text tone, you can pick from any of the alerts, ringtones, or text tones listed there. They're all there.

I wish you were right! pm me your email or cell # and I can text you screenshots. cause I dont have that ability

When you went to Settings->Sounds->Text Tone did you scroll down? Because the ringtones show up *beneath* the text tones.

Or, at least they do on everyone else's iPhone.

Have you actually scrolled all the way to the bottom? Is the tone actually on the device? In iTunes, go to the ringtone section on the device in the device list and check the tone is there and not greyed out. Sometimes they can spaz out when copying over.

yes it is on the device and it does work but only as a ringtone not an text tone. it is not under the text tones as an option. only as a ringtone. there is no place to scroll because there are only a few options to choose from as a text tone. it is listed under custom as a ringtone. read one of my other posts on how I put it on the phone and make sure I did it right please.

There is something you're doing wrong, cos if you go into text tones under sounds, you should see all the stock alert and ringtones as well as the custom ones you import, so there should be more than a few, as there's nearly 30 alert tones and then almost that many ringtones.

Anything showing under ringtone will show in the ringtones section too. If its in text tone at all then you can pick it. When you say custom, you mean in the text tone section as custom?

well its certainly possible that I did something wrong but I have 7 iphones and all of them only have the same options under text sounds. so I dont think I did anything wrong.

and no custom is only in ringtones and that is only the tone in the custom section and that was made for me on here. if it would show up in text tones that would be perfect but it wont.

text alert has 6 options other than none
ringtone has 25 options other than any that I have loaded.

you cannot use the alerts from either for the other.

im thinking that it was made as a ringtone and not a text or sms tone......

There's deffo something wrong. Even if you don't add any custom tones, under text tones you should see 25 alert tones and 25 ringtones. Same for ringtone section and email tone section. There is no custom section.

Are you definitely running iOS 5 on the devices?!

There is no separate SMS or text tone format. They are all .m4r. I have the same custom tones showing under SMS, email and ringtone to choose from.

I'm I'm the same boat. 8 custom ringtones I made with iTunes, they show up in Ringtone but not Text Tone. I've synced a few times, no dice. Was that way on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5 and it's the same on my 4S 64GB.

Well since it was mentioned in post 53 (3 posts before your first post in this thread) that iOS5 is needed, it's ironic that you always complained we never read your posts!!

You need to install iOS 5. If you had even stated what version of ios you were running back when you started, it woulda solved it sooner. Since iOS 5 had already been mentioned, it was assumed by all that you had this.

My turn then. I have 8 custom ringtones which show under "Ringtones" but not "Text Tones". I can buy new alert tones fine but my existing custom tones don't show up. I have a 4S with iOS 5 and a 4 with iOS 5. Same issue on both. Any ideas?

They should show up under all, but in text tones it's in the 2nd section, if you scroll all the way down, in with the stock ringtones like marimba.

I know, but they don't. I just have the stock ringtones under "Text Tone" in the second section. I'm going to try unsynching ringtones tonight then re-synching them. Maybe it's because I restored from backup or something goofy.

Initially mine didn't show as they hadnt synced properly, so I had to resync them over again.
