Time to strap on on your big boy pants this isn't CP2077 this is Witcher 3 written for and by adults, you'll be pushed to find a better RPG.
I haven't tried that yet, while I have played Skyrim, I'm not a sword and magic fan. I think the same goes for Baldur's gate III, I'm semi-tempted but that type of game doesn't usually fall into my wheelhouse. Given the depth, detail, and high reception of the game, I may buy baldur's gate III once it goes on sale on steam

Witcher 3 is a safe bet and very well written and frequently discounted. I'm not an avid fan of the genre myself but this one worth putting time into.

BG3 is excellent, highly recommended. If only someone would make another good Star Wars RPG…

I’ll wait for a significant sale...

For what ever reason, I seem to lean towards a pistol build, though if I can find a nice sniper rifle I'll use that. I don't know if it was always the case, but the pistol perks are in the cool attribute. I had a hell of a time finding it. I had three 3 perk and 3 attribute points to use, and I was sitting on them until I figured out reflex is for assault weapons

If it's not Larian or CD Projekt RED, I'm not sure I'd trust anyone to make a genuinely good Star Wars RPG at this time. 😩

Well, I take that back: Obsidian could probably do a decent job, but the publishers would force them to release it early/unfinished.

It used to be in Reflexes, but got moved after the big update.

Weird that its now in "cool" I don't get it. I would think you would have things a little more logically organized, but what ever. I'm still trying to get my sea legs. I want a pistol build, but I'm like level 4 and I just can't walk up to a bunch of hostiles and start blasting away. I need a shotgun to one or two shoot them.

It makes a lot of sense if your character uses silenced pistols, since it would mix well with the stealth skills in the Cool skill tree. If you prefer unsilenced handguns and noisy shootouts, it probably makes less sense. 😅

At the lower levels, melee weapons (especially swords) are probably the most effective, followed by shotguns and rifles. From personal experience, pistols don't become as viable until you either get better equipment or if you pair pistols with stealth and/or hacking.

They consolidated skills and plunked them there, I guess? Since I don’t generally like automatic weapons in games like this because of the many bullets they use, my ideal build (which after the DLC/patch, I think I put in the other CP77 thread) with the revised skills, includes a katana, pistol, and sniper rifle. The stealth and speed buffs makes melee exillerating, approaching omnipotent… not really, but it can feel that way. ;)

There used to be a skill that removed distance penalties for the pistol, mostly removing the need for a rifle and rifle related skills, can’t remember if that survived the patch or not. 🤔

It's still there, but it takes longer to get now, and only works when you have 85% or more Stamina:

I'm finding it possible to pick off cameras and sometimes able to do head shots with my pistol at distances that is surprising, so I think you're correct

Is crafting a thing in this game? I'm not seeing anything that leads me to that

Hmm, I don’t remember any crafting tables, so I’ll say no, even though your apartment, in the back room seems to have such a table. Just go find the good gear. You can however upgrade your gear via equipment slots. :)

Into the middle of my 4th playthough of CP2077.
ACT 1, the Main Quest line up though The Heist, ok the critics will say this is not role playing, but it’s like being first person in a visual novel that feels profound to me. I never guessed where it was going to take me. From this aspect, it can be argued the game has low reply value, at least from a role playing perspective, yet like a good book, I enjoy reliving the experience. Via the plot I felt personal loss, from a character stand point… ;)

It finally dawned on me that:

… in the plot, your character V would be dead, if not for the relic that was rebuilding her/his brain, and overwriting it with Johnny Silver hand‘s psyche. There’s quite a leap, that a chip could rebuild a biological organ, but you just have to go with the narrative. This is science fiction where there is heavy augmentation of the human body with cybernetic based hardware, hence cyborgs, so it becomes impossible to judge and critique the limits of technology in this setting. :D

However, the ending has always confused me, this and the DLC does offer ending choices…
…but if you’ve decided to go back to your body, and leave Silverhand beyond the black wall of cyberspace, (and not accept the cure), would’nt that solve the problem of your character’s psyche being over written, because his entity, has moved on? 🤔

Overall this story has some flaws, primarily that the main quest is on rails mostly with too few choices for a RPG, but overall I rate it as creative, unpredictable, and worthy. Yes, you’re free to disagree. 😇

I mentioned elsewhere that BG3 finally went on sale, I bought it, discovered it has turn based combat and refunded it… 😳 I do not like turn based fighting and micro managing the party. I want party members to handle themselves, or it’s standing around in a circle taking turns to attack.

I understand this is the basis of Dungeons and Dragons, but I’m not playing a board game, and prefer it to be more organic, although I do like being able to seize control of a party member during a fight, to basically make a particular kind of attack to occur. Currently playing Dragon Age Inquisition, and early into it, and I’ve not yet had a reason to switch characters. 🤔

Have you tried Pathfinder: Kingmaker ?

It has a choice of turn based or real time combat (that can be paused).

I use real time combat and pause when I want to give new orders.

I'm considering my 3rd play through but am tempted to first teplay the first 1/4 of Phantom Liberty. The design and attention to detail are mind blowing for areas that you will only spend 1-2min in and can never get back too.

What I love about the game is that it runs exceptionally well on my PC. It's unlikely that the UE5 based sequel will be capable of the following:

4k at 80fps
Between high and ultra settings.
Ray tracing
DLLS quality

All whilst my 4070 ti Super runs at 65% utilisation. I don't achieve this level of performance in any games. Even lesser good-looking games push my GPU to 90-100%.

I’ve expressed critical opinions about the placement of Phantom Liberty into the main quest, because the first time exposed to it, it seemed like I was barreling towards a climax and then a detour was inserted.

However, when I played, but did not complete PL, it was after a longbreak from the game, I had jumped back in using a save just prior to the ”point of no return” in the original game. This time I think I’ll just accept it as the detour to save the President as it is, although it does offer another exit strategy that can save your character, but short changes the entire end of the original game, if I understand it correctly. That said, some research shows that the DLC can be completed, and with a certain choice, your character will continue on to the original game’s end game.

On reflection I agree that Phantom Liberty is misplaced. The mechanics, weapons, vibe and architecture of the DLC feel distinctive from night city. I recommend playing the DLC after completing the main story.

I bought the game when it was on sale during Christmas I believe. Briefly played it to check it out, but have uninstalled it to save space till I am in the mood and ready to play the game and explore the world. It looks amazing and love the detail, though I wish it was in 3rd person, that is probably my only hangup with the game and why I did not get into it when it was originally released.

I’m considering this. If you like the original ending as uncertain as they can be, there is a way to navigate the DLC and then return to main quest line. The King of Wands ending takes you back to the originally story for completion.

If I was brave, I’d just take my chances. :) But this is a game with a story structure where you don’t have freedom to reverse course, and I’ve invested a lot of time in, so I and want to know what my limitations are. I definitely don’t want the crappy ending, of which there are 2 of those that I know of.

Of possible interest, I recently restarted Starfield and the difference in dialog and voice acting is significant. In CP2077, I’m helping Judy find Evelyn Parker in Act2, visited the sleazy Ripperdoc and in the midst of the environment, it basically feels alive, even as this is scripted. In contrast Starfield feels dry and ho-hum. “Oh you found a mysterious object, take my ship and go talk to Constillation.” There’s just something missing and disclaimer, maybe it’s my perception and at this point maybe I’m biased against it… 🤔

@wonderings Yeah 1st person makes it more immersive, but has less situational awareness. I usually prefer 3rd person, but I‘ve adapted, and can kind of keep track where enemies are when slicing and dicing. Thinking about this, maybe I should play with FOV settings? 🤔

I’m playing CP2077 as mostly a katana melee build. Movement buffs in this game, dash, slide, double jumps, attack speed buffs, and stamina recovery make this game a freaking amazing combat experience. Recently I was playing another game Middle Earth:Shadow of Mordor which has similar exillerating melee combat, but there was what seemed like technical issues when in the middle of a large fight, making it unmanageable. I ended quitting that game because if it.

Not sure if this is a 2.0 change but I walked out on the street leaving Judy’s, hopped on my bike and immediately found myself in hard core combat from one of the gangs I had been killing. This is a first as far as I remember. 🤔
