More good news - The demo being showed off 2018 was completely faked. One of the early bits of the YT was that it was stated it was intended to be a 3rd person game. Plus the game didn't really start in earnest until late 2016 and a lot of parallels to Anthem are being drawn as it was attempting to use a brand new engine, changing parameters and overhauls over and over.

Hearing that it was intended to be 3rd person, I have to say (in my opinion based on how I felt about the game)...I'm actually glad it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, there were certain instances where 3rd person would have helped (being able to see more of what's around you in a combat or stealth scenario), but putting that aside, I'm happy with the 1st person.

I saw a video on my YouTube recommended list about removed features. Haven't watched it yet, but the thumbnail was a supposed screenshot about buying an apartment. If that was truly a feature that was removed, I would like to see that in a future update/DLC release. I'd be up for buying a place in Downtown or North Oak! Or even just a "nicer" apartment in the mega building that V's apartment is in. There's no shortage of money to be earned, so it would be great so have something "big" to spend on!

You know, it’s interesting, because I read a comment from a Youtuber reading the apology video from CDPR and they said “CDPR didn’t apologize to the fans, they’re using this apology as damage control to save what’s left for this company”. In other words, the bigger picture is that they’ve lost millions of dollars/cost the founders over 1 billion, stock drop, and the pressure from the control board virtually telling them to figure it out or get lost. And you know, I think this is a valuable lesson to the other major developers on the market, if your project isn’t set for release, no one cares about deadlines anymore, it’s all about releasing a product that the gamers expect to refined and ready for launch.

We’re living in a technological era where mistakes like that shouldn’t even happen anymore, and the bar needs to be held higher, and unfortunately CDPR is now the ultimate mocking tone in the gaming industry of what not to do.
One of the most scathing commentaries on the CP2077 fiasco comes from a Polish game writer writing in English on a Polish game site:

No jingoistic patriotism here.

One of the gaming sites had a multi-person commentary about CP2077 and one writer pointed out that even if all the bugs were fixed there are fundamental design decisions that cripple the game's potential. I can't find that article right now but I'll post it if I run into it again.

Edit: found it:

Here's one writer's comment:

"Let's step back and imagine the best case scenario for this proposed roadmap. At some point in 2021, Cyberpunk 2077 becomes a bug-free, well-optimized game. Is it suddenly a game I recommend without reservations? Nah. Not even close. Cyberpunk's problems are much bigger than the bugs—it's still a pretty shallow RPG with bland combat and stupefying design decisions.

...

I'm still cautiously optimistic for the future of Cyberpunk 2077, but my personal timeline keeps growing. If it wasn't my job, I'd just check in two years from now." -James Davenport

The CP2077 snafu has resulted in some comparisons to previous launch flops. Some of those games were reworked and ended up being enjoyable. Some did not.

I've kept Cyberpunk 2077 on my Steam wishlist but I moved it to the bottom. It is now pretty likely that I won't even bother buying it for a couple of years. Even then I doubt I would pay more than $14.99 for it.

Concurrent CP2077 players on Steam have dropped precipitously, far faster than comparable game releases. That bodes poorly for CD Projekt RED's revenue forecast compounded with the fact that they aren't even shipping the title to the very large PS4 user base.

According to one article PS4 had about 14% adoption by PS3 owners a year after it released. It will likely be five years before the PS5 user base overtakes the PS4 owners.

The CP2077 revised roadmap presented in this week's video apology didn't even indicate a PS4 return.

Some other videogame studios have gotten skittish about publicizing milestone dates. Likely this will continue to spread until we just have timelines that say: "launch, bug fixes, more bug fixes, new content TBD" with no actual dates.

There are pros and cons for each.
3rd person is more true to the RPG genre and can make you feel more connected with your character.

However 1st person allows greater precision and fast gameplay. On the other hand, once you have built your character, you can kill enemies very easily without requiring laser sharp precision. So there is a bit of a disconnect with the perspective and gun balance.

1st will lend itself better to competitive multiplayer if that's something that CDPR cares about.

You should play the game. It's still entertaining and engaging in its current form.

As the quote you shared suggests, there are gaps in the game.

This can only permanently be resolved with a Cyberpunk 2077 Revisited version in 2-3 years when CDPR have had some breathing space to add features, story parts or gameplay mechanics that they removed.

Current for the game is rumoured to be around $500-600m. It sounds like alot but that revenue needs to fund fixing of the game, multiplayer, DLC and development of Witcher 4. The roadmap of the latter has likely suffered and is on hold.

These demos are usually fake gameplay, not unusual given the history of E3 crunches throught the biz. It's often just duct-taped together and played by somebody who knows to only show the working parts. And games do change throughout development all the time and often only come together in the final hour. Not unusual to switch the player perspective or core game elements.

CDPR just seems very old school in their approach to game development, making all the mistakes of the PC industry from 15 years back like some first time developer stepping into the console market. Ouch.

But unlike those developers of old they are now facing a huge vocal audience on social media and the particular demands from their stock-market-listed company's business where the personal wealth of these zillionaire founders is now directly linked to the success of their latest game. Rather critical when you only release a new game every few years.

Good behaviour: Teasing a future game using trailer.

Bad behaviour: Using tech demos to pump the share price and encourage gullible gamers to pre-order weeks before release.

Oh, I'm sure I will eventually. But not until the price drops to $14.99 or $11.99.

However nothing that I have seen (written reviews, streams, etc.) indicates that this is a $59.99 title.

Others here have mentioned that it's really not more than a $19.99 title. I have enough unplayed games in my library that I can afford to wait for an even deeper discount.

Good behaviour: Teasing a future game using trailer.

Bad behaviour: Using tech demos to pump the share price and encourage gullible gamers to pre-order weeks before release.
Worse behaviour: faking your tech demo to show unattainable performance.

Even worse behaviour: explicitly instructing reviewers/media not to show legacy console gameplay.

Worst behaviour: using the "we didn't see all these problems in game testing" lie. Either A.) they are claiming that they are so incompetent that they can't set up realistic testing procedures (although they seemingly had no problem doing so with the PC platform) or B.) they are outright lying about the whole thing and knew it was essentially unplayable on legacy consoles.

Making a dumb mistake is human. Making a bunch of mistakes and deliberately covering up your ineptitude in order to create a false sense of operational aptitude to protect profits is illegal. Capitalistic countries have laws against this because someone else is giving you money because they think you can use that money effectively to grow your business. Those companies -- by law -- must adequately alert investors to current and future risks.

Add all of these up and there's no surprise why there are no less than five class-action lawsuits and an investigation from a Polish government agency.

Investors see through their lies and have butchered their market capitalization. They can fool some of the more gullible videogamers on this planet but they can't hide from the scrutiny of alert people who expect this company to perform in a manner that increases shareholder value.

CD Projekt RED acted poorly.

Any idea when the game might return to the PSN store? There are 120 million PS4 owners who are unable to buy the game digitally.

I have no idea. I do not work for CD Projekt RED nor Sony.

Nor do I know about the detailed internal issues with the PS4 version. Clearly it was so poor that Sony themselves yanked it from their store so a few bug fixes nor optimizations isn't going to bring it back.

If it is something fundamental like a poorly written engine it's entirely possible that it might take a year or longer to rewrite it from scratch. I would not dare guess whether or not it is likely for CDPR to accomplish this at all nor what sort of timeframe they would require.

For sure, CDPR does not know themselves how long it takes to write a solid game based on their repeated delays. Worse, with their botched launch now the burden is on CDPR to prove to Sony that they have a revised game that won't embarrass both companies nor infuriate PS4 owners.

In the worst case, this might not show up at all for PS4 or they launch something that is a pale subset of the PC/next-gen console version of the game. What sort of goodwill does that communicate to the PS4 audience? I am uncertain how enthusiastic Sony would be in this type of scenario.

The real answer would come from CDPR but not in a video or press release. Actions speak louder than words and CDPR's actions so far has said a lot more than what their words have done. They can talk the talk but they have to walk the walk. They tripped and fell flat on their face with major injuries with the bungled PS4 title.

Pity.

Looking back, I wish there was an option to replay missions (like GTA5). I’m going to be starting a new playthrough, but do wish I could replay missions without having to start a new game.

As for the next playthrough, the most important change I’m making compared to my first round...NOT getting the perk that automatically breaks down junk. I really got screwed by that one when I realized just how much money some pieces of junk were worth!

Yeah no words needed...

Q-6

I’m pretty much done with it (As in, completed). I’m not going to really partake in anymore side quests, at this junction, I put in as much time as I think I want to for this title, it’s not for everyone for many reasons, but I’d rather capitalize on The main story missions, and the side quest really don’t interest me as much.

I know somebody who wants to buy the game from me for ~$45, and not so much that I care about the resale value, but I better sell it now, before it continues to keep dropping.

my biggest gripe, they cut out way too many cut-scenes that I think would’ve tied the story together a little bit better, and overall, it’s definitely not gonna even rank in my ‘top five’ best titles, which I thought it was originally based off all the pre-content I saw in the last two years.

I finished the game a week more ago, did the majority of the side quests. Just becomes repetitive, with the shallow & linear gameplay hardly encouraging replay. I bought Cyberpunk 2077 early on GOG so was discounted, I'll revisit if CDPR actually restore the game to something akin to what they marketed. If not probably abandon the game as the free DLC will likely just be more fixes and some minor add-ins. The larger DLC's adding content will probably be paid and I'm not real interested in rewarding CDPR any further for Cyberpunk 2077 as it's not the game I paid for; uninstalled.

Very disappointed how CDPR misrepresented the game and certainly wont be looking for more of their content unless deeply discounted as CDPR simply doesn't deserve customers that support them. I could get past the bugs on PC as they will likely be patched in time, however the cut content, gross misrepresentation right up to launch and pathetic excuses, just no...

The way you use perk and attribute points has the biggest impact on how you experience the game and story.

It's a shame that the gameplay trailer didn't serve as tutorials for this. Instead they focused on character personalisation and lifepaths which have no impact on the game.

The only reason why I haaven't sold my copy is because I love the architecture and art direction. I havent played the game in two weeks but might dip into it here and there just to see night city.

Per this article via Kotaku:

the PS4 disc is $30 at Amazon.com right now:

The Xbox One physical disc is the same price.

Agreed. For my first playthrough, I basically spent them for the sake of spending them. Didn’t really lean more towards one skill tree over any other. Just spent my points all over the place. Now that I have that first playthrough done and know how things work, I want my second playthrough to be more on the NetRunner path. I want to challenge myself to doing as much as possible without firing a shot, so my points will go towards the skills better suited to it.

And just thought of another thing I’ll be sure to do. I’ve mentioned before that “Pyramid Song” was my favorite quest. I’ll be creating a separate save file just before that quest so I can go back to it whenever I’m feeling like it 😂

The game does have its moments of brilliance.

My favorite missions were:

The heist with Jackie, getting up the tower. I would love to replay this missions with a killer cyberdeck and quick hacks.

Johnny Silverhand invading the Arasaka Tower. Playing him with the awesome synth music in the background made me feel like John Wick! 😂 This mission got me pump about building up my character. The limegreen and blue HUD + the way he reloads his revolver are icing on the cake.

In my next play through later this year I might do a netrunner/handgun build.

Definitely great missions there!

And I agree with what you said about the Silverhand mission. I had this really strong urge to watch John Wick after playing through that mission 😂

John Wick 3 is actually in my iTunes backlog. I have watched the 1st and 2nd movie. Good that I waited to watch the 3rd one until I have a Dolby Vision TV.

It's very good! I remember reading an interview with Keanu Reeves on Facebook, and if I remember correctly, he said he would keep putting out John Wick movies as long as the fans wanted them. I'd be all for it!

I kind of had a feeling when doing the "Love Like Fire" mission that the developers' goal for that mission was "let's make this as 'John Wick' as possible!" It just had that feeling to it, and it was a ton of fun! (Much like the mission in the most recent COD MW that felt like it was straight out of 13 Hours).
