Looks like I'll be headed to Best Buy for a price match.

Hopefully they won't sell out before the end of day/ Best Buy won't price match out of stock items...usually...

Amazon discounts the fire stick because otherwise they wouldn't sell any and because it makes money robbing people of their privacy. It is not a subsidy to people who are cheap or can't afford it.

AT&T just increased prices and is bleeding subscribers. Has nothing to do with a hardware refresh.

But this carries with it no subscription impacts... WiFi/Ethernet only on them. It’s just an ancillary sale for them. So maybe they’re just trying to sell through old stock. Possibly from their own purchases from Apple for their old Directv Now promotions.

FYI, AT&T had Samsung Buds for 25% off and my local BestBuy wouldn't price match them. (Granted, I was just returning $250 PowerBeats Pros because they couldn't keep a connection which might have had something to do with their reluctance.)

As an aside, a local AT&T store also wouldn't honor their online price, which was doubly frustrating since I had to order them and wait until the next day to pick up.

Also, local stocks of Apple TV 4K in my area seem to be low as only one store (out of like 10) is listed as a pickup location which might also factor into Best Buy's decision.

I'd hoped (like others) that this possibly meant a refresh is imminent, since they could use a processor update to improve Apple Arcade gaming at 4K.

I definitely agree with your point, though... It's likely just they have plenty of stock on hand from their past promotions. Especially now that they're refocusing their TV efforts on HBO Max.

This close to Black Friday (and Christmas) it doesn't necessarily make much sense for Apple to release a refresh... Since the Apple TV+ promotion may already be getting people to buy current models.

Then they can easily wait until the iPad Air/Pro refresh and do it then to entice buyers to upgrade.

Bought two (one at two different locations for pickup).

All of my local stores only have 1 in stock, so that’ll be a nice, little, trip...

But I have no patience, so deal with the pickup, 😅

Att’s site is all jacked up. It kicks me out at the last step of checkout. Tried it several times and gave up

It always is. I absolutely loathe trying to access anything on there.

I think they have serious issues with cookies and caching as well as poor browser support.

Typically macOS Safari works fine when Chrome doesn't. (Their mobile site and app aren't really much better.)

Best Buy won't price match it for me even with it being in stock. They are claiming they don't price match "promotions" which seems like a crock of you know what...
I hope I have better luck as there are only 2 stores in the area with stock. One is 45 minutes away and the other much farther than that.

I decided to try again online and got this as their response from a different agent. They are full of it.

"I am sorry to inform you that, we do not honour price match with att.com as it is unauthorised website to Best buy. "

It's not a promotion though. That would be if you signed up for AT&T and as such they gave you a free or discounted device. This sale is for anyone without the need to buy any services from AT&T. Therefore it's just a sale.
However bestbuy only price matches select retailers. The list is on their site.

I HATE outsourcing. It SO obvious that your communication was NOT with a US rep. BTW, I despise calling Best Buy for that exact reason. The only shot is a store manager that likes you.

I literally had Best Buy price match AT&T for an iPhone leather case a few months ago. Was simple and painless and over 50% off.

I will probably try Target on the way home. No AT&T stores around me have it in stock.

Here's to hoping!

AirPlay doesn't work without internet? Based on the system requirements I assume it still would work. I assume you need to have Bluetooth and wifi enabled but not necessarily connected to the internet. Kind of like how you can send photos from one iPhone to another via AirPlay even when vacationing with no service in airplane mode.

I think in some instances depending on the content, AirPlay will transfer the content's origin URL to the target device and the target device will begin its own stream instead of replying on the push device to get 100% of packets across all the time.

It is a good sign that Apple Box 5 is coming. Or may be that Att sells DirecTV?
Sounds like AT&T has a warehouse full after failing to meet their subscriber targets. I doubt it has anything to do with a new AppleTV, because Apple doesn’t do inventory. AT&T probably loaded up to get a better price thinking they’d need all of the and more, but now has a few hundred thousand extra on hand they don’t need. They’ll go quick.

That said, there is an existing rumor for an Apple TV refresh with an A12 processor, and the current model would seem to be due for a refresh (based on the cadence of past releases).

Warehouse full? Not any more. Showing as out of stock now.

almost certainly product refresh coming soon, but for basically 30$ assuming you're getting APPLE TV+ for a year free it's a decent deal. can probably flip soon enough for same price in after market.

Took a while to get a local pickup purchase to work, but got it going
