iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X

First I just want to make everyone aware that I am not looking to start a flame or troll thread, but I am actually looking for a constructive debate, as I'm sure that I'm not the only one debating between the 8 Plus and the X.
Currently I am debating between getting the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. Regardless of the phone I get, it will be in the 256gb in Space Gray. I am unsure if the X is worth the $200 premium over the 8 Plus after looking at the differences here on apple's site. I looked at that comparison multiple times and the only differences that are apparent to me are the screen and camera. There is also TouchID on the 8 Plus, and FaceID on the X. But I am mostly worried about battery life.
Here's some questions to get this discussion started:
Which phone are you getting and why?
What are your thoughts between the 8 Plus and X?

Getting myself an X. I have been using a Plus since the iPhone 6 Plus (almost 3 years) and i have always felt it was a little too large. The narrow design is appealing without sacrificing the camera quality. I travel a lot and I appreciate always having a camera in my pocket)

Still using a 6s+ and was looking to upgrade this year, but I'm having trouble deciding.

I really wish the iphoneX was wider. I'm afraid landscape video will be too small compared to the plus sized phones, especially 16:9. Otherwise I'd be all in for a smaller, lighter phone with a large display.

The 8+ has a great feature set, but is getting too heavy at over 200g.

Rushed? How so - Tried it?
I think its pretty obvious its been rushed. Not being able to preorder until the end of october just shows that they were trying for a very long time to bring out a different device than what the x is. Most speculation is that people wont even be able to get 1 until next year. The fact that they completely ditched touch id for face id after trying to get the finger print sensor under the screen but not being able to shows that they had to put together an incomplete project out there in order to be able to have an anniversary edition.

i follow the never buy the first of anything guideline. I dont want to be the guinea pig for any company. The iphone x just seems to be a rushed product that was pushed out before it was ready. Before its unveiling i was set on getting an x but i instead opted for an 8.

That's what I do with cars and guns so that's great advice for a phone as well

Me every time I see that notch.

Don't worry, I won't be competing with you for pre-order if thats your thing. Personally I cannot deal with something so hideous.

The notch is the only thing that has me debating between the two. If the X didn't have that notch then it'd be the one I ordered but after seeing the notch I started comparing the specs and saw how the two phones really aren't that different.

That's all speculative, but okay.

The 8 plus is the value king this go round. It might be overshadowed by the wow factor of the X (which is also an awesome phone)-but this is one beast of a phone. It’s the ultimate version of the iPhone many of us have loved for the last 4 years. It should be rock solid for years to come, and I’m glad they didn’t skimp on the processor and RAM. I’m beyond excited to receive mine this Friday!

That's probably why the 8 Plus isn't backordered on at&t yet.

Not being able to preorder at the same time as the iPhone 8s, does not indicate that the iPhone X has been rushed.

You are making a lot of assumptions. And those assumptions lack fact.

It is a known fact, that OLED production is a slower process. Said process is not Apple's fault. It is something that can't be rushed.

Ditching TouchID is nothing more than a rumor posited by an analyst. As far as we know, there is no truth to it. And to use that as the basis for Apple rushing the iPhone X out the door is very weak at best.

If you remove the rumors disguised as facts in your post, there isn't anything left.

My wife wants an iPX. I’m on the upgrade program so I should upgrade also. Why not a + model? I had a 6+ and I hated the size. I have a 7 now and a iPX is only marginally bigger.

In my wife’s hands a plus model might as well be a tablet.

There is a notifiable jump in size from the 8 to the 8 Plus, but from the 8 to the X there's not much of a size difference.

That's my thoughts as well. I like the size of my work issued 7 but liked the screen size on my 7 Plus when I had it.

I think the X is narrow as well from what I read.

I agree, and have seen others saying basically the same thing on other forums I read.

the fact it wasnt ready for release along side the iphone 8/8+ isnt speculative. Its widely accepted apple wanted to have a fingerprint sensor inside the screen but werent able to do it.
Again, no truth to that statement whatsoever.

Rumor does not equate to fact.

When others say the same thing does that make what is being said automatically correct?

"Widely accepted" is speculative. It could have been the plan to stagger the release all along to reduce cannibalizing sales. Who knows?

Heres a fact oled is not a new feature on smart phones. Fact, samsung used it on the original galaxy in 2009
You're saying that apple didnt realize the known fact that oled production is slower and didnt allow enough time to build the x. Which would mean it was rushed for the keynote. Which is why you cant buy one until november.

I did not say that Apple did not know. I also didn't say that OLED is new. I simply said that producing OLED screens is a slower process.

If that were true, i dont think there would be a big shortage of iphone x's on launch day. Its surely possible, but i dont believe that is the reason. I think theres a big enough difference between them that people know what they want.

If its slower, then why didnt apple take this into account so they could have more than enough for launch day? I think the very simple answer is apple was trying to figure out the under screen finger print sensor. If the iphone x had the under screen sensor, it would appeal to vastly more people.
