iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X

Yeah that's what I was talking about with the beta reference. I'm not sold on Face ID... and I prefer Touch ID.

If the only thing that was holding me back was the Face ID I'd probably get the X... but I have too many other things I don't like as said above... screen size... notch... etc.

Yep... I'm comfortable with the size of the phone. The 6s Plus is the same as the 7 Plus which will be the same as the 8 Plus.

It ain't broke... I ain't fixin' it.

Well, the 8+ is a little heavier than the 6/7+

8+ (7.13 ounces (202 grams)

7+ (6.63 ounces (188 grams)

6S+ (6.77 ounces (192 grams)

There is a notifiable jump in size from the 8 to the 8 Plus, but from the 8 to the X there's not much of a size difference.

The X size is in-between the 8 and the 8+

I've have two 6s Pluses, my first S model after even number 4, 5 and 6.

I was looking forward to staying on the S cycle, Was the 7 so much a flop they didn't make an S for it?

Why not just call these 8's the S model?

I still have a 6 that's an ipod now, maybe with $300 trade in and some Verizon money I have I'll consider an 8 plus or the X.

Not happy about this non S cycle.

I want an S Plus!

A 7S+ wouldn't have hardware changes like a glass back, camera or wireless charging like the 8+ does. It's more than an S upgrade would be

if the 8 plus didn't have such an old design It would be tempting as feature wise it has more than the 7 plus had Imo. It's just that now we are spoilt by the new OLED iphone 10. If it comes to a point where getting the x is impossible until 2018 i think i will get the 8 plus.

first came the up in the corner back button

then the "breadcrumb" back-to-app button in that same corner

those two are mitigated by the alternative back swipe

but now control center in the right corner...man...

get ready for the twisted thumb dance if you use the phone one-hand

Biggest argument for the 8 plus and against the X.

I agree. I think the iPhone 8 will sell really well, but the same form factor for four generation iPhones has me more focused on the iPhone X for obvious changes. But availability will be the biggest contributing factor and that might be the hardest part is waiting.

going to order through EE here and through IUP and see how it works out. This is where spilt screen on the ipad will be used and needed for that day

An old design that works for me.... I'm spoiled by the Plus screen. I've got big hands... I can use it one handed which I guess puts me in the minority user base. The smaller screen is too small... and in the case of the X I don't want long and narrow.

Again... a form factor that still works. I've had the 6 Plus, 6s Plus (skipped the 7) and soon the 8 Plus.

If the X was sized like the Plus I'd consider it... but as it is right now it's a deal breaker... notch or no notch.

Face ID, OLED and dual OIS are the core reasons for buying an X. Adding them to the 8 would have negated the X altogether for the most part.

I understand that bit I just don't think it should be. The OLED displays for the iPhone 8 would have gone a longer way to making it a better upgrade path then Apple has made it; and it is completely artifical of a limitation. Better things like form factor and edge to edge screen the FaceID system are all things that make sense as part of the overall form factor for the X.

And that form factor that you appreciate with the four year design will slowly conform to where the iPhone X is currently. Which eventually will the change design incrementally.

I wanted the X but I just ordered the 8+. I didn't want to wait for the X because I'm using an S8 that I dislike. I will get next year's version of the X, whatever they decide to call that one.

That might be the option I go with as well. Hopefully they'll make an X Plus with a larger screen.

Wow the vote is split exactly 50/50 at the moment.

One could ask why you are even on here at all if you don't see the point or value of gaining the opinions of like minded people.... You can get the specs off the Apple website, a forum is to discuss these sorts of things.

Exactly, that is why I posted here.

I went for the 8 plus:

- seemed better value for money
- longer battery life than the X
- cameras are identical expect for the OIS in the zoom lens, didn’t think it was worth the money.
- notch is beyond hideous and I won’t support it,hoping Apple fixes it.
- ppi of the x is honestly not that much higher than the 1080p screen in the 8+
- processors are identical with the x having a more demanding screen, meaning graphics will run faster on the 8+

I went to bed expecting to want an X, woke up the morning they were announced and completely changed my mind. I’ve never really had portability issues with the large phones (even when my 6+ got touch disease and I had to carefully hold it in my hand or it would break, no pockets) so I’m not in a massive rush for a smaller phone.

Thanks! Battery life alone is why I'm leaning towards the 8 Plus.

I've heard people refer to the 7 as another S model so I'm sure they'd consider the 8 yet another S model.

I do agree that the form factor is dated after four generations. Hopefully the 12th generation iPhones will have a new form factor.

The form factor may be dated according to the calendar... but as I've said it still works for a lot of people... myself included.

At any rate... I definitely don't consider the X a step forward. Looking forward to my 6s Plus to 8 Plus upgrade.

Well said, and great information!

IMO, I don't think the X is too much of an upgrade from the 8 Plus.
