iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X

For me the decision revolved around how I use my iPhone. I view a lot of photography on mine when I'm out and about, so I wanted the largest screen size for viewing images, of which the majority are in the 4:3 format. So, the 8+ was the logical choice for me. It has the exact same wide gamut colour display of the X and I've never been able to see the pixels on any of the previous iPhone+'s. Those that claim they can must have amazing eyesight as I have 20/20 vision! ;)

I did momentarily consider jumping ship to the Samsung S8, but when I went in and tested it out with some of my own photographs on a micro SD card, I found it oversaturated every image!

Seems like a pretty straight forward choice.

The 8 saves a couple of hundred dollars, comes in a familiar form factor with a known, proven security tech, shares a number of some nice upgrades with the X (wireless charging, CPU/GPU, some design elements) has camera improvements, and doesn't introduce any new UX concern (i.e., "the notch" and effective screen space).

The X introduces a slick new - potentially better - security tech, new AR related hardware that could be utilized for some incredible app development, new display tech, and is certainly a preview of the future design of iPhone and a new User Experience.

So pay a little less, get a nicely updated, device with the comfort of known technology, or pay a little more for more state-of-the-art, with the promise of a new, much better experience, that has lots of unknowns.

The X is a case of Apple not asking themselves “what’s the even better”, like Steve would have demanded. Shame! They rushed it 110%. No doubt.

I have never had good luck with being an early adopter. Frustrating to spend a huge chunk of money only to watch the next iteration force your hand into updating because it fixed what should have never been a problem in the first place!

That's just my opinion.

iPhone 10 for me. Gorgeous new design that doesn't look so old and out of place, in comparison to other smartphones on the market today. Also that beautiful display, that supports HDR. And tbh, I keep seeing how folks are bashing the iPhone 10's price and are getting the 8 instead. But I do wonder why? The iPhone 8 isn't exactly cheap and apple did raise the price. Spending a grand on an iPhone 10 is bad but spending 700-900 on an iPhone 8 is OK? Even if the iPhone 8 looks like the same phone that came out 3 years ago? Personally I don't get it but hey it's cool. I say get whatever you want and enjoy it. Come on November

Same here. Get ready for the multitude of gates. I predict micro scratch scuff gate on the stainless steel.

Heres a fact oled is not a new feature on smart phones. Fact, samsung used it on the original galaxy in 2009
You're saying that apple didnt realize the known fact that oled production is slower and didnt allow enough time to build the x. Which would mean it was rushed for the keynote. Which is why you cant buy one until november.

The AMOLED on the early Samsung’s were awful. They had this weird blue tint. No bueno.

The possible delay you’re describing is low yield and not being able to make the OLED screens in time. With the logic of your example you’re blaming the steakhouse for not having enough beef during a beef shortage.

If anything the X is pushed back a month to;

A. Allow some breathing room between the releases and
B. Not cannibalize the Sales of the 8 models.

The bigger question is why are you wasting your time complaining about the iPhone X? Is your life so devoid of anything interesting that trashing a new unreleased phone the only joy you experience?

Move on and find something you like and go enjoy that. You’ll feel better doing that than arguing with people who actually like the phone.

Well micro scratched stainless steel has been around since the iPod Classic era. You can polish it out though which is what people have been doing with the watch.

First I just want to make everyone aware that I am not looking to start a flame or troll thread, but I am actually looking for a constructive debate, as I'm sure that I'm not the only one debating between the 8 Plus and the X.
Currently I am debating between getting the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. Regardless of the phone I get, it will be in the 256gb in Space Gray. I am unsure if the X is worth the $200 premium over the 8 Plus after looking at the differences here on apple's site. I looked at that comparison multiple times and the only differences that are apparent to me are the screen and camera. There is also TouchID on the 8 Plus, and FaceID on the X. But I am mostly worried about battery life.
Here's some questions to get this discussion started:
Which phone are you getting and why?
What are your thoughts between the 8 Plus and X?

Of course, the intent was to inflame . . . the very first word was "Debate" ;)

I decided to go for the 8+.

I have a 7 now, which replaced a 6+.

Reasons:

1) Cost savings went to the new Apple Watch and 4K TV. Trying to save a little somewhere.
2) I Wanted a larger screen again and I have no complaints with the quality of the current Apple LCD screens.
3) I'm leaving on a long road trip around the USA soon and wanted the new phone before I leave, mainly for the camera.
4) I'm very comfortable with current Touch ID and I am not ready to adapt to a new UI.
5) I get to use this phone for months before the X will probably be available. We will all be looking forward to the 2018 phones by the time people can reasonably expect to get an X.
6) I feel that the internals are basically the same between the 2 phones.

This thread is titled ip8vX. If you came in expecting any different you're a fool. This is a discussion on why one is better than the other. Just because you can't accept criticism about a phone, doesn't mean people should be quiet so your feelings don't get hurt.

I do have a feeling scratches will be a complaint when the iPhone X launches, due to the stainless band surrounding the iPhone. But A Cape Cod cloth should hopefully resolve that issue.

Again, no truth to that statement whatsoever.

Rumor does not equate to fact.

When others say the same thing does that make what is being said automatically correct?
Not at all but it doesn't make it wrong either.

I haven't noticed the oversaturated images on Samsung, but I will have to take a look at them again as I do have a Note8 coming in as well. I did notice the pixels on the 4/4s models but not on the 6 and newer. I am leaning towards the 8 Plus, but I am not certain yet.

Agreed! That's one of the other things that has me hesitant on the X.

the fact it wasnt ready for release along side the iphone 8/8+ isnt speculative. Its widely accepted apple wanted to have a fingerprint sensor inside the screen but werent able to do it.
This is much closer to a fact than your baseless speculation:

“There were, of course, early attempts to embed a Touch ID sensor under the display as a Plan B. But Apple became convinced that Face ID was the way to go over a year ago. I heard this yesterday from multiple people at Apple, including engineers who’ve been working on the iPhone X project for a very long time.“ (https://daringfireball.net/2017/09/iphone_x_event_thoughts_and_observations)

So if you think a feature being worked on for well over a year is “rushed”, you might have to look up the meaning of this word.

Well said! At face value the price of the X seems high, but when you look at it as being only $200 more than the 8 Plus it isn't as bad.

Well written! I agree with all if your points especially that the internals are basically the same between the 8 Plus and the X.
