Well if that had happened to me yes I would be frustrated. If I started to hear that orders placed say Dec 20th were being delivered I'd be pissed for sure. Hopefully they do there best to get them out in order, but I'm sure there are real manufacturing reasons behind it. Different manufacturing locations, speed of assembly lines, part shortages in plants, maybe even high levels of panel problems from a particular manufacturer.

What's the saying "Good things come to those that wait."

yea man its frustrating, ill give you an example i have two coworkers who live literally 3 miles away from me, ordered the same exact config on dec 18, both received already, plus others on here as well just looking at the spreadsheet...my problem is when i call apple and pose this question to them as to why this may be happening all they keep saying is that nothing is shipping til january while they read what their saying off a script...so thats really why im annoyed...your reasoning is actually the best ive heard so far lol they should take lessons from you sodner

again i cant speak for everyone else, but im not saying they did anything wrong, buuuut i think i caaaan speak for everyone else when i say that were all starting to get a little pissed when someone orders 2 weeks after we did with the same configuration and they already have their iMac....thats why were all starting to get annoyed...if they told me we wouldnt get them til july 2013, i would of been completely fine with that...its not the wait its the lack of consistency thats starting to get annoying

You have every reason to be annoyed. What gets me is that Apple never announced to their consumers that there would be such a long wait for these products (except on the Apple Store, by giving an ETA). They only released a notice about iMac shortage to their shareholders, which to me just isn't good enough.

As for your iMac, I'm sorry to hear about that. As you may know, Apple has several factories producing these computers (lets say 2, as an example, although it's probably more than that). When you order your computer, your iMac is designated to a factory, lets say factory 1. However, other people have their iMac configurations sent to factory 2, a week later. But factory 2 produces iMacs much faster, resulting in others receiving their iMacs before yours. This is, unfortunately, how the process works. The worst part is that it is all probably digital, so even by complaining to Apple, their phone support team really does have no idea what to do, as it is completely outside of their control (and much above their pay grade). It is a flawed system, yes, but that's unfortunately how the process works.

I ordered my iMac on 27 December, and obviously it is still processing. It "ships January", so I don't expect my order status to change until 31 January. Always go with the last possible day with these things, otherwise you just get annoyed. Also, don't worry about what everyone else is getting, just marvel at the unboxing videos to excite yourself about the enjoyment you are about to be susceptible to :)

yes thank you, this is the best explanation ive heard, whats funny is though no apple employee can tell you this? atleast not the ones i spoke with....Its also a good point you made too that if you recall when these were first announced it was 21 inch in october 27 inch in december...That made it seem that once released in december youd be free to order whenever, and your right, never once was it really explained fully that even when they start coming out in december they would "trickle" out, and not necessarily in the order in which you ordered...but this makes me feel better to understand now that youve explained the process to me, you should give them some tips over at apple too

Ya sadly the Apple folks on the phone aren't very knowledgable on things like this. They go through a script for problem "A" or "B" but don't know much beyond that. I called them when waiting for my iPhone 5. I knew it had been shipped by searching UPS by reference number - my package showed stuck in Alaska for days - but still said preparing for shipment on the Apple site. They swore that none had shipped and when the did it would be from a local distribution point. TOTALLY CLUELESS. Ended up getting my phone on release day as expected, guess UPS just missed a scan.

Here's hoping that like with the iPhone 5, as time goes by, they will improve the iMac manufacturing process and we'll all get a perfect iMac VERY soon.

Just a quick note to anyone who ordered through a reseller - today I checked up on a Dec 13th order from MacMall (I know...) only to hear they weren't expecting their very first arrivals until Jan 29th... Not sure whether they're just keeping their estimates extra conservative, but I decided to place an order through Apple anyway just to see who comes through first.

Not counting on seeing anything until February at this point.

Mine is STILL processing

Ordered on the 5th December

Delivery on expected January 3rd - 9th

They're going to have to hurry up if the want to meet that date

 I have finally moved to preparing to ship!!! Ordered December 2nd in the uk, BTO 27" i7 8gb 3tb fusion 680mx :D

Delivery est. same as its always been, 4-11 Jan. We'll see

I had the same issue in the UK retailer John Lewis. They originally promised delivery on 21st December and then said some time next year. Also decided to move order to Apple. At least I should know roughly what is happening!

For those of us in Order Processing limbo, how many times a day do you check the order status?

I have been in bed with a bad cold/respiratory infection for four days now...I must check that page a hundred times a day... Like watching water boil...

Once a week.

I doubt FedEx will beat the 'Your Order Status Has Changed' email from Apple when it does indeed change from 'Processing' to 'Preparing'.

Ya'll are crazy.

ordered on Dec 6th

Hey guys just a quick update, it might be useful for someone. :D

On the morning of Dec 31 I received an e-mail from the apple store saying that my order had shipped. Delivery expected on Jan 8th.

I ordered from France on Dec 6th, Base 27 + 1TB fusion.

How long between preparing to ship to recieving your beasts? It's taken me exactly one month to move from processing to preparing

Is your carrier Kuhne & Nagel Spedition s.a r.l? If so it may very well be on the same plane as a chap from Holland and me (I'm UK)

He has a list of times to do with the Chinese airport, I'm not sure what is still running over the New Year holiday but I'm hopeful that it will be much quicker than 8 days.

Good luck - keep me posted on your progress.

Mine is just 1000km away from me! YAY! :D

Could you give us more details please?

how do you know?

I'm really excited becasue my 2006 white macbook, 2 Gb Ram currently freezes when I type and catches up when I stop. Cant wait for some POWER!!!!!

Look at LogicPro spreadsheet, there are timing between preparing, shipped and received status...

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlEmmsf8GxV9dE1EQnFzWGpidFduY1Qxb2ZYUFZTQ2c#gid=0

Guys, at least the lucky ones that had received their machines please update the spreadsheet that LogicPro set up, there are some interesting stats there to be analysed and all orders from December are covered.

The data is only good if your input is also good.

thanks in adavnce, ahh and by the way I'm not a lucky one my order is still processing with delivery for January, I'm getting paranoid with this, hehe.

Good luck to all of you

What does FedEx have to do with this?

I asked how often people check the APPLE order status. I'm in day 27 of "processing" no matter what one expects or is told, a little movement would be nice to see.

I wonder if anyone would want to take the spreadsheet and send it to a senior Apple executive such as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and ask what the devil is going on before issuing a press release (as announced in the message to Apple).

Well I applied for a job at Apple about 18 months ago...made it to the first interview stage, but I guess I wasn't the type of guy they were looking for. I'm now a web developer and am buying this iMac for work purposes...if only Apple realised the urgency of work orders vs. pleasure purchases ;)

For those wondering...

1tb fusion, 3.4GHz i7, 680MX 2GB, 8GB ram (will upgrade myself), ordered on 27 December and still processing (obviously).

This thread keeps on being incredible.

So many people pissed off because Apple over-delivered on its promises with some users, while "only" delivering on its promises to others.
So people get pissed because they are getting what they were promised, while other people are getting what they were promised of a little earlier than expected.

I'm glad someone else has explained why this is happening, it's not like Apple having a list of bad and good users, it's just called logistics 101. I also fail to understand how can you possibly expect phone support to explain you that your imac was built in factory X but worker Y failed on assembly line Z and now your iMac is being built again. While you're on the phone why don't you ask for a ticket to China so that you can oversee the whole supply chain for yourself?
Don't you find very normal that they tell you "your order will arrive on or before when it was told you it would arrive the moment you ordered? (and by the way, what the hell are you complaining about???)".

My opinion is that people should complain if the promised delivery date is missed: but until then, i think complaining is borderline to crazy. Be happy for other users getting their earlier, they were luckier than you and that's ok, it's not bad corporate behavior on Apple's side.

I will be pissed if my delivery date slips by a week or more, but until then, what can i complain about? that i'm getting what i paid for while others have been luckier and got it earlier?

Cook is notoriously an idiot that does not know anything about logistics, i suggest some of the whiners here apply for a job at Apple and explain him how to run better something so simple like an under-pressure iMac production line.

Or, just cancel your freaking order and make them pay!

I just got the notification that mine is on the FedEx truck for delivery. I've already got my box cutter and blanket out and my 32gb ready to install. Ordered on Dec 4th... Almost a month wait. My estimate was January 2-8. Looks like I was right in there.
