It's so difficult trying to start up my freelance business without a computer! I really wish I wasn't so impatient. I've been about to just cancel my order and hope I can buy what I want in the Apple store near me.

One day this thing will finally prep for shipping and ship to me... one day </3

Start up? Try trying to satisfy clients and customers from a two-year old (Core 2 Duo) 13" MBP. For almost a month now.

Ordered 26 December

Showing preparing to ship today:

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X8GB
3TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIAGeFrc GTX 680MX 2G GDDR5
MAGIC MOUSE+MAGIC TRACKPAD-AM
Apple WL Kybd (English)+UG

I order alomost the same thing -the trackpad with only 8 gigs on 21st and still processing ? Don't understand their shipping methods at all

Wondering if I should call again, since folks with similar configs to mine who ordered days after me are getting 'prep for ship' notices, and I'm still processing.

Trying not to be greedy or bitter here, but this whole process has been fairly silly. My fifth MBP battery in as many years self destructed last night, as they apparently do even with diligent conditioning and careful use, my ODD has died, my screen/GPU is glitching out, my MPB is locking up on a regular basis trying to load fairly light web pages, and I'm a bit eager to be done with this.

Arrrrrrghhhhhh!

So if I'm scheduled for the 15th I should expect the 14th? ;)

Apparently these are arriving in only 2-3 days. Mine was shipped on the9th, held over in Alaska, went out of Alaska on the 10th and here on the 11th at 10:30am. So yes, be home on the 14th or even today!

FedEx arrived and no one was home! I left a signature, but guess I'm glad the FedEx guy (I know him) didn't leave it on the porch......10:32am. I planned to go home from work at noon, as FedEx usually arrives about 1:00pm and I had a feeling that it might arrive today, given all the wonderful information on this site.....but never imagined at 10:32.......guess he knew how anxious I was :D

So....just Called FedEx and they said they would try again Monday. uhhh...Seriously??.....I don't think so;)!
I told them I would be coming to the facility at the airport tonight to pick up my baby...38 miles.... & they said the driver would be back in between 7:30 and 8pm. :apple: Oh well. Will have all weekend to play :0)):apple:

There seems to be some sort of lottery system, that's kinda vaguely weighted by order date. It's bizarre. I'm seeing some 19th & 21st & 24th orders go to preparing so of course I can't help but check my 20th order 2-3 times a day, but there are 8th and 12th orders that haven't gone anywhere. I'm sure it has to do with which factory's queue you ended up in, but I can't determine how they decided who got in which queue. Did they just allocate round-robin regardless of performance/yields?

Pull the battery and just use on charger. Also have you repaired all your permissions or thought about a clean re-install?

MBP's (and I think most Apple laptops) don't let you do that, or you can do it in a SEVERELY reduced-power mode. It's ridiculous, I know, but their claim is that the battery is part of the system's functional design.

Occams's Razor would dictate that they fulfill by a first come first serve basis, but who's to say Apple's order system even processes by order date.

This seems to be the common theme of this thread, and it's a fairly large assumption that based on the comments and result thus. The fulfillment process is clearly dependent on a algorithm other then order date & time.

Configuration doesn't appear to be a factor either.

My theory is that it is based on order number, which by looking at previous Apple.com orders is not sequential. It may very well be effected by such things as source of traffic or account number. Who knows. But check this out:

Apple.com order of June 2011
First four digits: W2676

Apple.com order of December 21, 2012 (Imac)
First four digits: W2351

Apple.com order February, 2012
First four digits: W2186

Wouldn't it make sense that aprops of nothing else, the order numbers are fulfilled in order, (are issued relatively close sequentially but based on other factors then date) by the people in China?

My old 07 White MB is running as a media station of sorts with the battery pulled.

What industry are you in where you engaged in selling a service to a client with a severely handicapped setup?

That's like a chef trying to run a restaurant with dull knives.

It's a bit off-topic but that's not true at all. The battery is completely unnecessary for full operation of the machine.

The computer is still functional for light use, it is just not very pleasant.

I did repair permissions but it's not much more than a symbolic ritual when your GPU has been glitching out for a few months. It's just an old computer. It served me very well for a bit over five years. I'm not going to bother with a clean re-install on very old hardware when a shiny iMac should be arriving soon. :)

I'm keeping things in perspective, and I can keep plugging along this way for a bit longer, but man, what a long wait this has been! I've been meaning to get a 2012 (redesigned or spec bumped, whatever Apple threw us) iMac for over a year now, foolishly expecting something around the Ivy Bridge launch (edit: and I know I'm not the only one!).

Obviously, that's not my regular setup. I had something else going but it died, hence iMac. And it's not so much that the computer itself is awful (although the processor is pretty outdated), it's mainly the screen real estate issue. And no, I have no other options and no affordance of them between now and the iMac shipping.

Gah! This is exactly what I ordered on the 26th (except I got 8GB RAM) but mine still says processing.

Where are you located?

Gave Up

I placed my order on 1/1. Called Apple Store today and they had one of the top end 27" and multiple of the entry 27" ones. So I bought it. Pretty awesome! I am impatient like that.

I had the same luck as many others in this thread and elsewhere in the forum. The local Apple Store got ONE of the high end 27" configurations in stock and I leapt at the chance. It's a really slick machine.

My advice to those that are fortunate enough to be near Apple Stores is to just call every morning to see what they have... It's as much a mystery to the reps as it is to anyone else exactly what will show up when.

Apple Stores are keeping that configuration in stock. Multiple reports here of people walking in and buying one.

Thanks for the tip! Just called in on a whim not expecting anything to come of it - found they had my exact config in stock, so I ran over and picked one up straight away. woop woop!

My MacBook Pro has been chugging along for 7 years! I don't have clients depending on it, but it's been a real workhorse editing my 14MP images and 1080i home video, all on a CoreDuo (note the absence of the 2!). I replaced the hard drive a couple of times, but I can't remember if I ever replaced the battery. All in all, it's been worth every penny I paid (and I paid a lot for that laptop). Unfortunately, I can't watch the 1080i video that I edit (I have to send it to my AppleTV), ripping DVDs is painfully slow, the keyboard took a beating by my toddler and now the spacebar often doesn't work, and while iPhoto can process my 14MP images, it's painfully slow when doing Faces, Places, and calendars.

Maybe I should have a wake for my old friend. How would one memorialize an old friend whose time has come?

Congrats! It's great if you wanted the i7 already anyway. My patience isn't worth an extra $300 upgrade though, for something that will give me personally between zero and negative benefit.
