I can't imagine that very many of you are that hardware-needy in terms of what you're using the machine for - are you?

For some there might be a little ego involved, for others, it really is a necessity. The reality is that the iMacs are now contending with MacPro Towers, which professionals have relied upon for years. Both of my g5's died (remember those). Technology has brought the Prosumer offerings into the realm of satisfying quite a few Professionals. I'm a full time photographer making 6 figures. Time is money. This machine will pay for itself in a month in productivity, happy clients, billings, referrals, and a happier me. And when you are really pushing the data through a machine, the hyper threading does matter, i7 will save me a few hours a week, or several hundred dollars. Its all relative...

I ordered 21-12 a base 27 with 1tb fusion from the dutch EDU store. Still processing ofc.. :)

My guess is ill get some good news this week. Lets hope thats true!

Dunno when mine will ship. Ordered an i5 with 680 on 12/23 but today we are going to ikea to get a new desk for it.

Mine arrived in Austin, TX this morning! Less than an hour from me! Scheduled for Tuesday, maybe it will come Monday. :apple::eek:

I ordered mine the same day, perhaps this might be promising for me too :D As of right now it is still processing but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Preparing!

Ordered 12/15, went to preparing this morning, although still only says "January."

My credit card charge went through this morning also, so it's not necessarily true that the CC charge hits a day or two in advance...

UK iMac...

Just called my local Apple store in the UK to discover they have a an 3.4 i7 iMac with 1TB Fusion, 8g RAM...

I placed my original order on 30 Nov and had payment confirm on 12th - still at Dispatched: January

Dunno about you guys but that makes me borderline livid - that they can ship almost the same spec to the local retail store but they can't get me my order after over 4 weeks!

Running out of time today but tomorrow, if the beast is still in store, I'll cancel my order and go in and collect... just gotta handle the economics on the period of time it takes to get a refund.

One plus - I order 18Gb RAM so paid over the odds - the store machine spec means I get to buy and install no-Apple RAM at much lwr price.

So to those waiting and getting frustrated in the UK, this may be an option to consider if you can't stand the wait...

I'm curious - SO many of you have ordered fully-loaded rigs, including i7's, lots of RAM, 3TB fusion, etc. I can't imagine that very many of you are that hardware-needy in terms of what you're using the machine for - are you? I'm guessing it's just a matter of wanting the best setup you can afford, which apparently is loaded. The part I don't understand at all is ordering anything other than base RAM, with the hideous prices Apple charges for more memory, and the ease of upgrading yourself.

I ordered an i7, 680MX and a 3TB Fusion. Some reasons: I haven't had a new computer in over two years, and I expect this one to last me at LEAST that long, probably more. It's future-proof, at least for a good while. I do a lot of gaming and want this to (eventually, when Windows is installable on 3TB) replace my gaming PC. So hence I need the graphics, processor and space. I also edit LOTS of video and pictures--it's pretty much a second job, the first of which is freelance web development and design. So again I need the space and the speed for that. And also, I can afford the monthly payment (Barclaycard), so why not? This is something I will need, will use, and can afford. It'll also last me longer by buying the top-end model.

That all being said, of course I didn't order the RAM, hahah :p I ordered it myself, yesterday, like a gentlemen. I used Newegg's free shipping, and IMHO it'll be pretty sad if they're supposed 4-7 day shipping gets here before my sodding iMac does.

EDIT: They just charged my card. It's on now!!!

Well, yep, that's me.

Ordered 12/12.
Base 27" other than 1TB Fusion.
Left Shanghai yesterday
Through Anchorage this afternoon
Arrived Oakland around 10pm tonight
Scheduled for delivery Tuesday (Phoenix), but I'm guessing that I'll see it Monday if it's in Oakland already on Friday night.

It so happens that I am under a real bug gun. I got laid off from my job, so my SO and I are scrambling to turn his so far one-on-one consulting business into an online training venture which means I have been crash-coursing Final Cut Pro X (Which is going quite well actually!) after an all-day multi-cam shoot for course materials.

The problem is we have one quad-core macbook pro and one dual-core macbook pro and we are both editing all day every day. Dude, we are checking that status daily waiting for that 27 in 3t fusion bad boy to come in to do most of the heavy lifting. Our eyes will thank us too. We are trying to go live by the middle of Feb. Soooooo. That's what's the rush.

Well, I went to the reseller to check the status of my Nov 30 order of the 27in 3.4, i7, 3tb, 680mx imac. They said no change so I said I wanted to cancel the order. They then looked again and saw that it was "in manufacturing" or something like that. I have not heard of that term before. I wonder if that is just more information that the reseller has access to and it is being made now. Has anyone else heard of this?

Thanks.
