So, I called into Apple. They're expecting to ship my Dec. order next week, and upgraded me to Next Day delivery, though I doubt that's going to change much. I was really, really nice (called in on a Sat, before Christmas - told them I appreciate how hard they're working, and how hammered with calls they must be.) At the end, as suggested, I said I had a question about the SuperDrive, and the representative added it onto my order for free. Win :)

On the flip side, probably won't see my iMac till early Jan...

Delighted for you! I ordered on Sat Dec. 8th, so this has given me some hope!
I'll probably call them again tomorrow or Monday, just to see what's up. I may try the Superdrive ploy as well. It wouldn't hurt to have one... so I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask...

What did you told to representative, to get the SuperDrive for free ?

27", i7, 1TB Fusion, GTX 680MX

Ordered Dec 13th and still processing.

Have seen a pretty wild range of reviews on MacMall - I ended up siding with a few close friends who have long histories of good experiences with them, but after rifling around macrumors for a while I'm beginning to wonder if I may be macless well into next year...

Anyone else on here who went the same route?

Exactly like I said - I was really nice, and then all I asked was "I was thinking about buying a Super Drive, do you know anyone I could ask a few questions about that?" Then I shut up. I had a few questions prepared just in case.

I want to go to Apple Customer Service file a formal complaint about the handling of their 27" i Mac release

Have they missed the promised delivery date? if not, what are you complaining about?

I really don't get all these complaints: does it occur to you what does it possibly mean to mass produce something custom built? A zillion things can and do happen that make orders not shipping in the exact order they're placed.

When they build your BTO Mac and maybe find a defect what do you think they do? they stop the entire assembly line to re-build yours so you can keep your "priority"?
What do you think happens when you're building in more than one factory and maybe one of them is delivering at higher than expected rates, while another one at lower? what if one factory has quality control issues? Do you seriously expect that some sort of magic supply chain software continuously reshuffle the production lines accordingly?
Would be great, we would have Decembers orders filled by next December, maybe.

Start complaining when they miss the promised delivery date, and i doubt they will, because for sure they do have some priority lines set-up exactly to avoid that when something goes wrong.

I had a mini Ipad delivered 10 days earlier than expected, i'll probably have my iMac as possibly late as they said (yes, its still processing), but i won't shout here filing some law suit because they are not delivering my order earlier than promised.

Maybe you should hold out for the 2013 model. Joking aside that is a bum deal.

You are missing the point ... Apple has been giving customers free super drives and track pads because of this release fiasco. No one mentioned anything about lawsuits.... Get a grip

Which fiasco are you talking about? Delivering in December what was promised to be delivered in December?

Can someone here list the delivery date that was given to them at the time of order vs. the actual delivery date? Since when early delivery or matching delivery is a fiasco?

preparing now

ordered my BTO on 3/12, it went to preparing for shipment overnight. That is exactly 3 weeks from order date. Original quote was shipping 3-4 weeks. Delivery 27/12-4/1.:)
that is to Australia!

How about this (there are others too)

I posted in another thread about this. I ordered on November 30th...

Processing Items, Processing Items...

I checked last night and I had a small change to the status of my order, original shipping dates of Dec. 20 - Dec. 27 moved to January 2 - January 7.

Called customer service was not helpful, no explanation for the change, no explanation for the delay and was informed that all orders are fulfilled in the order in which they were received, even when I questioned them on this they stuck to that line over and over.

I am tired of this, no movement on my order. Orders placed after mine with the exact same specs have gone out for delivery.

3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB

Nothing crazy with my order.

Great job Apple, keep it up!

Delivered

Ordered 12/3 and had it delivered 12/22. Nice machine so far. The glare reduction is significant and quite welcome. Will be playing with this more over the weekend and will report back.

It's far from a fiasco. Name one member who did not get their iMac by the promised date.

I just see a lot of impatient people who think they are special and entitled to something for free simply because someome who ordered after them got their iMac before them. Oh BooHoo.

to spink 10 , no i didnt post that before, and second what would it matter if i did?

i was just saying in my other thread that i spoke with apple today and even though i had a delivery date promise of jan 4-10 they said today their now telling everyone dont expect it till february just to be on the safe side..Now im the last person to complain about stuff like this, i knew i wasnt getting it untill january 4-10, even the 31st i would of been fine, but dont take my money under the promise that the 4th-10 it will be delivered and now say february...not cool

I ask for information and you choose to belittle people ... How immature!

Ordered Nov. 30th, estimated delivery was Dec. 31st to Jan. 7th. UPS has it in town and will be delivered tomorrow. So a week or more early.

His tone is a bit off, but really it is a lot like demanding a free loaf of bread from the supermarket because the line you got in is moving slower than the lines next to you.

first of all im not complaining about ****, obviously you didnt read thoroughly enough...If they were to tell me you can order your mac but were not sure when itll ship thats fine with me, next october? fine with me...but i was told when i ordered and it also said on my delivery date jan 4-9. Thats why im upset... i also planned a vacation around that just to make sure id be home for the delivery... over $4,000 bux for a new cpu i think i have the right to be a little pissed and feel a little misled...If it bothers you so much to read peoples threads that havent been as fortunate as you in aquiring their machines then dont ****ing read them at all..I posted a comment to see if their was anything unusual about being told that and if other members here have experienced the same thing...were suppose to be here to help eachother and to put our fears to rest, not make stupid ass remarks such as yours...

seriously! what the **** is this guys problem? its like hes looking to start an argument with people who just feel like venting their frustrations and excitements about getting their new iMacs, and rightfully so...I said it before and ill say it again if your so bothered by these peoples comments then dont click on and read a thread talking about it...its that simple....and ill also say this again...people come to these forums for help with their problems and to get questions answered about their macs and to talk about the delivery time for their iMacs with other iMac owners because it makes them feel good to talk about something they cant wait to have...they dont come here to be chastised for everything they say...if you got nothing nice or informative or reassuring to say then take your ******** to another forum
