This is going to be a really lame upgrade.

  • Faster processor? Big deal, they do that every year anyway.
  • Super thin side bezels? Major downgrade. I guarantee you there will be issues with accidentally using the touch screen while holding.
  • Smaller form factor? Who cares, it's not smaller by enough to make it more portable, but it does mean that any previous iPad case won't fit.
  • Longer battery life? Who cares, nobody should be using their tablet all day anyway.

When are they going to add some real specs, like 41MP camera like Nokia has, or NFC like Samsung has, or multitasking, or 128 GB, or some function for the fingerprint sensor (which may not even be included) besides the super rare function of security from intruders?

So far there is literally zero reason for any logical person to be interested in this product. It's actually WORSE than the iPad 4. This is what happens when you trade a visionary like Steve Jobs for a beancounter like Tim Cook.

I don't think you know what you are talking about.

Nothing new and groundbreaking we didn't already know.

Just add safari feels snappier and you will be the lest innovative comment of the day

----------

Not sure I like it shrinking, unless it's just the bezel that's shrinking and the screen is the same size...

that is what it is

Yes, you know more about the supply and demand of a product sold by the most valued company better then they do.
To be honest it wouldn't be the first case of a company failing to understand their customers' changing expectations, thinking that since they were successful with a strategy in the past they can be successful with the same strategy today or in the future. Said that, I think the iPad was updated roughly a year ago: it doesn't seem to me they are that late with this new model.

I really wish people would start to educate themselves just a a little bit more in the photography field. Whoever is responsible for one of the bigest misconception of the century, aka 'High Megapixel = Better pic quality" deserves to be hanged!

Actually never mind people, it is absolutely mind boggling when even companies like Nokia don't realise that!!!

It is not the only criteria. Sensor size and actual quality and the lens of course, but megapixels do matter. If they did not then we would all still be using 1 megapixel cameras.

Megapixels DO matter, but so does everything else also. Not JUST megapixels.

The most criminal thing here is no flash unit. Mobile phones before smartphones, 10 years ago had flash units. So Thanks to Apple, in 2014 you will still not be able to take a resonable photo indoors in the evening with their flagship device.

That's bad.

Apart from the new case I'm not sure if we'll see any huge changed. NFC is unlikely since the new iPhone didn't get it. I'm betting we'll get the finger print scanner, maybe new colors. 128Gb would be nice but I'll only give that a 50% chance of happening. Of course they will be faster, better battery life and camera but I don't see any ground breaking changes.

This will replace my iPad 2, which is still running good, but getting slower with every iOS update.

NFC would be nice, but more in the iPhone than in the iPad. I couldn't care less about the camera.

The things that I'd really like to be in the device won't come of course (micro SD card slot or cheaper Flash upgrades), voice calls, standard USB 3 power chord etc.

And heck, remove this stupid "I can only be powered with an Apple power adapter" thing. Besides the "this USB Magic Drive only works with Macs without an internal DVD drive, and not on any other computer" is perhaps the most stupid thing that I ever had with Apple.

Dear Apple

I'd like to upgrade, but i'd REALLY REALLY like some decent forward facing speakers so that when i'm watching netflix/etc, i dont need headphones.

Thanks

There already is a 128GB version of the iPad 4.

-Faster 64bit processor. Big step forward.

-Smaller, thinner, lighter form factor IS a big deal. I carry mine along with a lot of other things and every extra bit of space and every bit of weight reduction matters over the course of a day lugging a bunch of stuff around.

I can't believe your complaining about longer battery time. Seriously, that's like complaining you got too many presents on christmas day!

As for the bezel... I can't comment on that. I haven't used a mini to know it if will cause trouble. Mini users can enlighten us thin bezel virgins on such matters.

Oh and I Love the friendly tone of this video! Compared with most videos of this type it was well done.

Go away.

Apple is too slow. New iPad models are urgently needed.

In terms of the smart phone market, probably yes. Also things have changed with the latest 64bit architecture and finger print sensor technology.

But name one tablet which is far ahead of the current iPad? I don't know any.

Not to be off topic but wow. Now it looks like some of the workers have their own website.

True. The number of leaks emerged the last couple of month is getting ridiculous.

I want my iPad to increase my productivity. Not make me a better photo shooter.

This is a major step backwards. We don't need lighter, smaller devices. We need bigger bezels and slower processors. Please, Apple. Give us a 6kg iPad with 2" display in VGA resolution and a ridiculously slow 8-bit processor, and add an integrated 8-track player. Stop making devices that are actually useful.

No one on earth will consider it a downgrade from iPad 4. No one.

The translation for this entire paragraph is either "I'm can't get one" or "I already bought iPad 4".

lol

It's obviously Tim Cook knows what the customer wants.

He managed to sell 9 million iPhone 5s where everybody whine about how insignificant upgrades (some example are no camera improvement, 64-bit is lame, gold color is really stupid, chopped finger to hack Touch ID and etc.).

Anyway NFC is great but it's not yet the time to shine. When the world is ready to start embracing a smart device for everything (credit card, key and wallet) then NFC will probably be a better device.

Also 41MP camera? iPad is not your everything solution. It's called smart device and not your camera. If you want to take ultra HD picture, I suggest you go and get yourself DSLR camera. Its technology won't be obsolete as much since DSLR camera is already close to its peak. And bigger pixel = bigger image = more storage.

Unless you use your iPad to take image of your face and edit to remove your pimple and other facial problem, 5MP camera is more than enough. Beside with A7, the picture that is taken with 8MP is absolutely gorgeous (if you have already not seen the picture that is taken from iPhone 5s).

I will really miss black Apple products! I think the iPad Mini looked fantastic in black, and somehow was way more scratch resistant than the black iPhone, maybe because it's simply not a phone, and also because it has rounded edges instead of sharp corners.

I really loved the black iPad mini but couldn't get myself to buy it without its retina display. seems much more practical than my big iPad 3 that just sits around. but that black iPad mini was slick. this grey is eh.

Can we get a freaking flash for an iPad already Jesus Christ

i think you missed out on the part where steve jobs and apple as a whole put out a letter on their website explaining how flash is inferior to HTML5 and that Apple will never support it on iOS.
This happened about 4-5 years ago
Just getting you up to date.

This is coming from the same person who wrote this last year when the iPad 4 released...

I feel like technology is developing too fast for people to keep up. I know that sounds crazy but it would be nice to limit new products to once a year.

I dont get it, one minute Apple are giving you too much new tech, now they're not doing enough:confused:

Make up your mind...

Never in my post I said megapixels do not matter. I said megapixels =/= image quality! They do but they are just image size. Your large sized jacket is not better quality then the smaller sized jacket! That doesn't mean then the larger sized is not needed or it doesn't matter.

Of course 1mpx image is to small for our basic everyday needs (physical print/publishing on the web etc) I do own a professional camera with 22.3 mpx sensor that costs over £2000. What good would it be if you shrink 50 mpx on the same image sensor size? Besides, I don't do photography for billboards so I don't need 40 Mpx image size!

I am well aware of other factors that contribute in the image quality. I earn from taking photos so I do know one thing or two.

You lost all credibility when you put a 41MP camera on your wish list. That's an absurd number of pixels for any camera and serves no purpose whatsoever other than to market it as a gimmick to gullible folks like you. The iPad 5's upgrade features may not appeal to you because you seem to be swooning over anything Android, but lots of other folks will be seriously interested in these new features.

There is no need for a 41 MP camera in a tablet. That's plain pointless, you may need a back camera on a tablet for some skyping and some occasional snapshots but not as a day-to-day camera.

Also, the iPad already has a 128GB storage configuration.

The fingerprint scanner can also be used as an alternative for passwords, not just security for the device.
