Apart from the new case I'm not sure if we'll see any huge changed. NFC is unlikely since the new iPhone didn't get it. I'm betting we'll get the finger print scanner, maybe new colors. 128Gb would be nice but I'll only give that a 50% chance of happening. Of course they will be faster, better battery life and camera but I don't see any ground breaking changes.

128GB iPad 4 is already available.

I'm one of the people that want a bigger iPad. Maybe the ability to create a slimmer bezel will allow that. Either way, I'm really looking forward to the A7X. The A7 really makes iOS 7 shine on my 5S.

You don't know what they have done. He didn't say there would be no more leaks and even didn't say there would be less. In supply chains as massive as the iPhone's or the iPad's it's impossible to keep everything inside.

They did manage to contain the Mac Pro and we don't know what we don't know. There are signs that Apple is investing in a new product line such as the smart watch from job positions changes etc. But we haven't seen any leaks from that side. It might very well be that they will announce one at the next event.

It's easy to say that Apple is crap at containing leaks, but there is no way any of us here knows what they have in fact managed to contain or how effective they are.

I mean, they've been keeping "secrets" for years and avoiding leaks too. The Mac Pro was a secret and features of the original iPhone were too. We know they're working on solutions to a smart watch and a solution to the current state of the TV industry so those two things aren't really "secret", but their specific features are.

There's different levels of secrecy and they can't keep everything a secret, but it's been like this for years.

Since 2007, product announcements by Apple have only really had a few surprises.

Basically, whether Cook said this 2 years ago or said it today I think we would know the same information about upcoming products. For example, even if he DIDNT say he was doubling down on secrecy, we wouldn't have had a leak of the Mac Pro anyway..

Can we get a freaking flash for an iPad already Jesus Christ

Jesus Tapdancing Christ!

This is going to be a really lame upgrade.

  • Faster processor? Big deal, they do that every year anyway.
  • Super thin side bezels? Major downgrade. I guarantee you there will be issues with accidentally using the touch screen while holding.
  • Smaller form factor? Who cares, it's not smaller by enough to make it more portable, but it does mean that any previous iPad case won't fit.
  • Longer battery life? Who cares, nobody should be using their tablet all day anyway.

When are they going to add some real specs, like 41MP camera like Nokia has, or NFC like Samsung has, or multitasking, or 128 GB, or some function for the fingerprint sensor (which may not even be included) besides the super rare function of security from intruders?

So far there is literally zero reason for any logical person to be interested in this product. It's actually WORSE than the iPad 4. This is what happens when you trade a visionary like Steve Jobs for a beancounter like Tim Cook.

What you're complaining about:

Faster processor -- really, you're yawning at this?
Super thin side bezels -- have you used an iPad mini?
Smaller/lighter form factor -- I care. The iPad 4 is ridiculously heavy.
Longer battery life -- You're complaining about longer battery life now?

Now for what you want:

128GB -- Um, it's available on the iPad 4 already.
Camera -- Do you want to be another one of those ridiculous people using their giant ipad as a camera?
NFC -- Yawn. Yes, you heard me. YAWN.

Steve Jobs died. Deal with it.

End rant.

No, again it does now matter, if 41MP and then rescaling doen to 8MB gets a better image than a 8MP system then the 41MP is better.

It's the end result that matters

The fact remains if Apple were the ones with the 41MP camera it would be deemed the most amazing thing. We all know that.

Apple is nut dumb arse to shrink 41 million pixels in a tiny camera phone sensor. Question: Why would any regular user want an image that large with a poor quality of a camera phone? You do know what the large images made on professional cameras are used for, right? Hint: Billboards/giant LED displays etc.

And explain how is the 41mpx better? On what sense? Because is large and size matter, right?

What will be really nice is if there is a single iPad that can use either Verizon or AT&T networks.. This really seems like a possibility considering how much they have consolidated models for frequencies with the iPhone 5s.

This is coming from the same person who wrote this last year when the iPad 4 released...

I dont get it, one minute Apple are giving you too much new tech, now they're not doing enough:confused:

Make up your mind...
Not directed at you personally, but I don't understand why people keep responding to this person who is an instigator at best.

I don't really care, no-one really does, if it's 1 MP or 100MP.

All the matters is how nice the photo's are. they rest is just marketing really.

that said, the iPad should have a flash for time when there is not enough natural light

This is technically possible today with the Verizon iPads. They're GSM unlocked and will accept an AT&T SIM. No LTE on AT&T, but the 3G/4G is pretty fast.

(At least this was the case with the release of the iPad 3; I don't know if that was changed subsequently...)

I'll consider upgrading my iPad 2 when the new iPad has multi-user support. I see TouchID working brilliantly for that. Until then, I can't believe how great and future-proof the iPad 2 was!

I couldn't agree more. I'm still using my iPad 2 which I had since a month after it's launch. Whereas my iPhone 4S which was bought months after that has already been replaced due to running very slow. But yeah, iPad 2 is great :D but I am considering upgrade soon.

Most of your claims would be legitimate, if this was still 2011. The iPad has a 128gb model. Some people need their tablet all day and Apple has a great history with delivering on iPad and Mac battery life. Apple has software that keeps any interference from occurring when you palm is resting slightly on the screen from you grip and it works great. If the new design is anything like that of the iPad mini it will be a welcome change. Apple's iPhone cameras are great and Airdrop is more convenient and faster than nfc for what 99% of what people use it for.

It's strange that they didn't add multi user support long ago already. They advertise the iPad as a living room / coffee table type device so it would only be logical that each family member has his own account on it.

I don't think Apple sees it as a living room / coffee table device -- I think they see it as a personal device.

There are some significant downsides to a shared device:
- shared capacity
- shared battery
- shared possession

I don't think it's a UX Apple wants to support.

How/when do you manage shared capacity -- do you all gather 'round iTunes to choose syncing options? Do you all just grab what you can? If you want to download an app but there's no room, do you find your sibling and try to talk her into removing that 1GB app she has? Or can you just remove it? Or are there quotas? Who manages the quotas? Who gets to use the device and when? Who manages that? How do you make sure it's charged up for the next person?

"Mom! I need more space on the iPad, can you bump me up a GB? ...It's for school." "Honey, you left the iPad almost uncharged!?!" "Selena Gomez?!? You've got to be kidding!!" "No, you can't have the iPad, I'm trying to finish my book!"

I just don't see Apple getting into that kind of mess without having reasonable answers to all that. A "guest" mode (maybe based on an enhanced "restrictions") might make more sense.

It's difficult yeah, but Google did it effectively so I don't see a reason why Apple can't do it even better.

The translation for this entire paragraph is either "I'm can't get one" or "I already bought iPad 4".

lol

Oh yeah. It was like this on the pre 5s thread, last year's waiting for the new iMac thread and now on the waiting for Haswell rMBP thread. So many small minded last gen owners letting their resentment shine through.

Cool story, bro.

Apple is too slow. New iPad models are urgently needed.

Yes, clearly Apple should just toss new models out, no need to waste time on this "get it right" thing, don't worry about having the supply chain ready, that'll solve itself.

honestly

Nothing new and groundbreaking we didn't already know.

honestly, if this thing is for realz, I think the groupbreaking bit is the WEIGHT. The ipad 3/4 are just too heavy, with retina display and the bigger battery. If apple can do what they did with iphone 5s, and weight I'll buy this new big ipad in a second!

I'd like to see a flash on the ipad, and honestly the way people hold them up to take photos, I'm surprised that apple research hasn't shown this would be a good addition to the functionality of the core ipad.

I'd like to see TouchID too on the device. HAS To still have a retina display though.

My biggest question though is HOW THE HECK DO THEY GET THESE THINGS? I mean why isn't every single test piece produced accounted for? How do they smuggle them out of the factory? Is it just corruption internally?

Doubling down on the security seems to really be working for Apple...............NOT!

Anyone who has done business in Asia understandings the level of corruption, graft and deceit is nothing short of unbelievable. I don't look forward to any business dealings I have there.....none!
