  • Why would you need a 41MP camera on an iPad
  • Why would you need NFC on an iPad
  • iOS 7's multitasking is perfectly fine
  • The iPad already comes in 128GB
  • The fingerprint sensor literally just came out a week ago, give it time
I prefer the iPad 5 over the 4 because:
  • It will decrease in all dimensions
  • It will weigh less
  • The FaceTime camera will be improved
  • The rear camera will be improved
  • It will have a faster CPU
  • It will have a faster GPU
  • It has stereo speakers
  • It has a rear mic
[*]It will probably have that M7 chip
  • It may have more RAM
  • It may have TouchID
  • It may have 802.11ac
  • It looks better, in my opinion
  • Buying it would clearly aggravate you, which would make me joyful

Loughable. M7, I always wanted to go jogging with the iPad mounted to my back.

A flash is also nonsense. Always despised those people holding up their stupid iPads on gigs or other events taking the sight for other people.

This is going to be a really lame upgrade.

  • Faster processor? Big deal, they do that every year anyway.
  • Super thin side bezels? Major downgrade. I guarantee you there will be issues with accidentally using the touch screen while holding.
  • Smaller form factor? Who cares, it's not smaller by enough to make it more portable, but it does mean that any previous iPad case won't fit.
  • Longer battery life? Who cares, nobody should be using their tablet all day anyway.

When are they going to add some real specs, like 41MP camera like Nokia has, or NFC like Samsung has, or multitasking, or 128 GB, or some function for the fingerprint sensor (which may not even be included) besides the super rare function of security from intruders?

So far there is literally zero reason for any logical person to be interested in this product. It's actually WORSE than the iPad 4. This is what happens when you trade a visionary like Steve Jobs for a beancounter like Tim Cook.

 What are you talking about?
–128gB storage? Available.
–Multitasking? just double click home button/5 finger swipe and TADAAA
–41mP camera on a tablet? Really? More pixels does not necessarily mean better stills.
–Faster processor is ALWAYS welcome: trust me.
–Super thin bezel: have you ever tried an iPad Mini lately? Thought so.
–LONGER BATTERY LIFE not welcome?! I mean really, Really, R-E-A-L-L-Y?

Pls explain what upgrade samsung did to S4 from s3

They went to a 5 inch 1080p screen from 4.8 inch 720p without increasing the size of the case.

Other than that, and the faster CPU, etc., they are very similar. The big beautiful screen is the biggest point of differentiation.

I think they are just being enthusiastic, don't take it so seriously ;)

I don't agree. I think he original comment was just another armchair CEO saying how doomed apple is unless they do X.

as for taking thing seriously -- this is a forum for discussing rumors. that's what it's here for. parking in it isn't being serious.

Can't wait to see the iPad 5 in its new form factor, it'll be an even more gorgeous device in its new slimmer outfit.

[rolls eyes]

Well, you've heard it here, you're an illogical dimwit if you're interested in this product, straight from the voice of authority, so be warned.

I was glued to my seat throughout that fascinating video. If I hadn't been, I'dve left the room ten seconds in......

You know your life is in a bad way when you're enthusing over microns and milligrams. But I dunno what's worse. Waxing excitedly over such tripe or me telling you all not to - after watching it meself!

Wow. Who peed... (no wait)... crapped in your Wheaties this morning?

I, for one, can't wait for this product, having never owned an iPad until now. The items listed are part of the reason why!

  • Faster processor. Great! They did it again this year. Better and better.
  • Super thin side bezels. Nice. They kept some larger sides to help with holding and the lighter weight allows them to do this.
  • Smaller form factor. See above. If I had an iPad already, why would I switch cases? Buy one for your second iPad, or sell it with the old.
  • Longer battery life. Excellent — now I can use it all day!

Please do not use words you don't understand. It's actually worse than saying nothing at all.

I'll consider upgrading my iPad 2 when the new iPad has multi-user support. I see TouchID working brilliantly for that. Until then, I can't believe how great and future-proof the iPad 2 was!

It's strange that they didn't add multi user support long ago already. They advertise the iPad as a living room / coffee table type device so it would only be logical that each family member has his own account on it.

Probably because Jobs and Forstall though that was too complex, like quick access to commonly used settings, which we didn't get until they were both gone.

You lost all credibility when you put a 41MP camera on your wish list. That's an absurd number of pixels for any camera and serves no purpose whatsoever other than to market it as a gimmick to gullible folks like you. The iPad 5's upgrade features may not appeal to you because you seem to be swooning over anything Android, but lots of other folks will be seriously interested in these new features.

No, again it does now matter, if 41MP and then rescaling doen to 8MB gets a better image than a 8MP system then the 41MP is better.

It's the end result that matters

The fact remains if Apple were the ones with the 41MP camera it would be deemed the most amazing thing. We all know that.

I REALLY hope they get super new models out in time for Christmas.

I would like to see this new A7 chip in it since I hope to give the new minis to the 4 of my five grandsons who are old enough for them. They are heavy gamers and the A7's speed would make for a better experience for them.

They would not care about the fingerprint sensor (which works GREAT incidentally) but if it reduced the chance of theft it would be worth it.

With all the progress in the O/S and this new chip it would be a bummer if there was no refresh incorporating it in the iPad line this year.

Yes, you know more about the supply and demand of a product sold by the most valued company better then they do.

I don't know about Apple, but BlackBerry, Nokia and Motorola dominated mobile until they fell victim to the hubris of badly misjudging what people wanted.

Some people can be such whiners...

This iPad is probably going to be an excellent product:

- Fastest chip on the market. Blazing performance both in CPU and GPU.
- Awesome display. I don't think it's ever been matched yet. The Nexus 10 beats it in PPI but overall the iPad has better color accuracy and touch experience.
- Very small form factor that is both solid and visually pretty.
- Very good battery life considering the form factor and display resolution.
- Comes with the OS with the most tablet-optimized apps and the most high-quality games.

Yeah, it doesn't reinvent the wheel, but what it does it'll be extremely good at it and I'm perfectly fine with that. It's an iterative update, but an excellent one, over a product that's already considered the best in its class.

If you're not satisfied, just don't buy it. Apple doesn't "owe" you revolutionary features every year.

That's not true. In a comparison between 8 MP and 41 MP chips of similar size and properties, the true 8 MP chip will ALWAYS deliver better results compared to a scaled down version of the 41 MP.

The reason is that the 41 MP sensor will contain more pixels that are not excited due to a lack of photons compared to the 8 MP sensor. The result is noise and worse low-light performance.

That was very stupid of him to say. I mean, it would've been good to say if it was actually true...

You don't know what they have done. He didn't say there would be no more leaks and even didn't say there would be less. In supply chains as massive as the iPhone's or the iPad's it's impossible to keep everything inside.

They did manage to contain the Mac Pro and we don't know what we don't know. There are signs that Apple is investing in a new product line such as the smart watch from job positions changes etc. But we haven't seen any leaks from that side. It might very well be that they will announce one at the next event.

It's easy to say that Apple is crap at containing leaks, but there is no way any of us here knows what they have in fact managed to contain or how effective they are.

I skipped the last iPad because I didn't see much difference except for the inconvenience of having a house and business with both 30-pin and 15-pin cables.

This time, however, I see the chance of a substantial performance boost, especially if there is enough RAM to make use of 64-bit applications in the future!
