How do I stop the police getting me to unlock my phone, currently if I use the wrong finger enough times it needs a passcode which I have forgotten, I can't change my face while the police have me in restraint
[doublepost=1505049378][/doublepost]How about not being a moron and getting arrested?

I think we'll know whether Face ID is secure and accurate in two parts. 1st how far Apple lets reporters test out Face ID in the demo area after the even and 2nd how far Apple's anointed reviewers test it out for their pre-launch review and also if we see Apple shrugging off any defects by saying the review device had a beta version loaded on it.

It's smart to be skeptical, not cynical. TC has a lot of person prestige on the line here as this is going in the most high profile iPhone since the first iPhone. If it fails Antenna-Gate will look like a non-story. I think Apple understands that so hard to believe it will be anything but stellar. If that is not the case anyone who still hoists TC up on a pedestal will be branded a fool.

Pardon my non-tech savvy self, but how, exactly, do these leaks even happen? Does it mean someone hacked Apple to obtain the GM of iOS 11? Or was it shared by Apple accidentally? And if so, how or where? Can they track down who or what is responsible for these leaks?

I was thinking the same thing. Anyone know?

Bollocks. As we all know if you quickly hit the power button 5 times in quick succession you can lock out TouchID in iOS11, and that would almost certainly also apply to Face ID. Also, exactly how will people be unlocking it with pictures unless the picture is 3D and matching dozens of data points simultaneously?
locking or disabling your phone by "pressing the power button 5 times" is a silly and naive oversimplification. Most people (when accosted by government minions or criminals alike) are not going to be given the time or luxury to dig their phone out of their purse or pocket and press the power button 5 times.

Oh, this keynote will be a big one and TC is going to be under huge pressure. It's not just him but also how the entire presentation is handled by his people. If there are blunders or mis-steps, it's going to make him look bad. I suspect there are going to be about 5 or 8 speakers in total including TC to cover the entire thing ranging from iPhone, iMac, Speaker, Watch, etc.

I expect it to be about the same as last year's. But since it's now in their stage at headquarters, they don't have a time limit. I think doing presentations are other places probably have put them on a tight schedule to set things up, borrowing their stages on a budget.

TC's career is definitely on the line, considering the huge leaks they've had in the past month or so. I highly doubt this was a controlled leak by Apple on purpose as others claimed it to be, or WISHING it to be. The leaks are a massive failure on TC's claim to be 'doubling down on security'. His head should be rolling for not doing a good job of it.

Those leaks are probably going to reduce the impact of surprise on their keynote this Tuesday because a lot of people know have a strong idea of what's coming around the corner.

I expect Apple to start off the keynote on a comedic note to 'laugh off' the leaks so that things appear 'rosy' when it isn't. They did this with TC on a live feed (or possible recorded ) with his Carpool Karaoke thing. Then they did this with another 'humor' video of a new hire sitting in a large server room and accidentally shutting everything down ( WWDC show ).

That's an easy fix. Press your thumb to an onscreen button to pay with ApplePay. At that point, it'll Face ID you and will remain verified as long as your thumb is on that button.

Sure, for contactless payment when using public transport, on highways or Starbucks - that's going to work. Not. Touch ID works because it is so convenient - the phone is an extension of our hands, it makes use of how we interact with the world, with our hands. It is not a UI issue as you suggest it is a CX issue, and a serious one.

So, you will 3D photograph somebody’s face, 3D print their whole head with 0.001 millimeter precision in all available measurements?

It is easier to imprint somebody’s finger than to 3D print their whole head

3D picture is USELESS if it is on screen, which is flat as IR measures the distances and shapes of surface

3D cameras exist :p

even on the new Sony XZ1 phone

Yes otherwise Apple wouldn't do it if they didn't believe it was secure. Just because other devices like the Note 8 use facial recognition doesn't mean Apple's version will be the same, for a start it will use 3D rather than 2D (which is why the Note 8, S8 and other devices can be fooled by simple pictures).
That is a lot of Assumptions. We will know how secure it is, until it hits the general public.

My biggest issue is the question around speed. Touchid is very fast. Concerned about Apple pay + faceid. The only time the interaction is slow is when you use Apple Pay + touchid, any slower is a poor experience .

Makes you wonder.....................

Just How is this going to work?

If it uses an infra red camera , it's doable

This is how we get reduced security. People will go back to no passcode instead. FaceID is solving a nonexistant problem.

People are going to be unlocking this thing with pictures within 24 hours.
Completely wrong as you misunderstand biometrics here. Passcode is increased security. Biometric unlocking is increased convenience. That’s why you must use your passcode every so often even with touch id.

You can't fool a parallax sample with a photo. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Most of it is based on the recent leaks and not assumptions. It's going to be very fast, uses infrared and uses a 3D model of your face and it's features.

Obviously we won't know how secure it is until we get it in our hands and until Apple demo it and talk about it at Tuesdays keynote but I do think it's safe to say that it's safer than what Samsung are currently using (Note 8 can be unlocked using a simple 2D photo).

This Face ID is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Who wants this? Do customers want this? This sounds like a way to scan your face and invade your privacy.
What if you're an actor and you're in costume and reach for your phone oh yeah I've got a gorilla mask on I can't unlock my phone. How frustrating it will be to have remember to turn it off or remember a passcode.

This is a huge step backwards. It's good for nothing.

Just like a selfie camera. Who wanted that? Nobody. It's a way for the government to spy on you. Now they can really make sure it's you when they scan your face now they can scan your face with every traffic camera and who knows what else.
This tech is made common on mass production so that it's cheaper to make and they can make more advance versions for the government. So when you touch a table of pass by a camera they got your finger prints and face ID. Oh it's to catch the terrorist I bet huh?

Well news flash. It's all made up. There's good people out there. The government just wants to polarize people. They want you divided. They want you in fear. They want your guns they want you defenseless and submissive. WAKE UP!
I'm not buying this crap.
I vote with my wallet.
Jobs would be appalled.

I think this will work better than a lot of people seem to be assuming, even though I still think it seems like an over-engineered solution to a problem they created for themselves, to some extent.

That said, I hope FaceID wasn't what was used to protect all this information from being leaked!! :p

It's interesting that so many people rolled their eyes at the fun animated emojii story, yet that technology proves that you could do far more with FaceID than simply have it respond 'yes - unlock' or 'no - don't unlock'. You could have a whole range of options like 'blink twice to launch safari' or 'wink at the camera with your tongue sticking out' to turn the phone off... 'roll your eyes and mouth a curse word' to delete spam... etc.
Hey that's a cool thought.

Innocent people rights are violated every day by our government and their minions, so you really need to climb off your sanctimonious high horse.

No I don't. But you do need to get real...

If you are arrested by the police accused of a crime, and a search warrant application to examine your phone for evidence is submitted to a judge articulating probable cause, which a judge then agrees with and subsequently signs, I have no problem having the police, if necessary, pointing your phone at your face in order to examine its contents for evidence.

I suspect you believe Wall Street and bank fraudsters accused of crimes, politicians accused of crimes, bank robbers accused of crimes, etc, should be similarly exempt from having their phones examined for evidence when a signed warrant is produced. Let's extend that to having their homes not searched as well for evidence when a signed warrant is produced.

I imagine you'd like to ban search warrants all together.

Hahahaha are you being serious? it's not going to invade your privacy, you sound like one of those paranoid people who think the government are spying on them. Secondly I hate to break it to you but a lot of people take selfies with their phone camera.

You can't say it's good for nothing when it hasn't even been announced  you can vote with your wallet and so will the rest of us when we pre-order :D
