Wait... a new UI will effect your body!!

Heavens...your body is ready ...for what???

There's something scary going on here...please explain!!

My body will LITERALLY go through catharsis.

Hormones normally released during sexual experiences will be released, creating an amazing amount of pleasure.

It will be amazing. Out of this world.

Are we forgetting the 100,000+ apps that would require icon makeovers? How are designers supposed to distinguish their apps? Realism, or skeuomorphism, is what made OSX and iOS amusing. I can't imagine my large collection of apps as Windowish glyphs. It would look like Arlington National Cemetery.

I've been wondering about this as well, but I'm sure the developers would be able to change their icon in the moths between WWDC and the actual release of iOS 7 for the masses.

Holy Cow!!

Now I can't wait for the new UI!!:D

At my age, that level of endorphin release is a rare event...

They aren't the same people. This forum has been known to harbour people of differing opinions, sometimes even in the same thread.

Still it can't be long before we all evolve into a unified hive-mind. I give it another decade. Apple is probably working on it already.
iHive.

Not everyone on planet Earth wanted a UI change.

I agree, but the forum has been exploding with demands for change for a while now.

As long as they don't change the icons and the bubbly, elaborate and colourful nature of iOS, I'll be happy. Jony, please don't **** this up. Please.

It will be very much in keeping with Apple if they release a flat mobile OS, just like Windows and Android and everyone else these days, but then claim they have invented a new level of flatness that is superior to everyone else's flatness.

Apple will then patent flatness and sue everyone else for flat UI.

Honestly if Apple wants to be revolutionary bring back glass buttons and at least look different than all their competition.

Geeze, if this is Apple's idea of innovation, to duplicate other people's design trends now, its game over.

This is not Apple's idea of innovation. This is Apple's new direction for the iOS UI. Do you honestly think the only thing different in Apple's iOS and iHardware will be Ivy's newly refined UI?

Glass buttons... Really? If Apple actually does copy Windows 8 and Android, then it will be over... but I suspect that is not what will be revealed at all.

I will reserve final judgement until I see iOS 7 in action. The thing is we are mostly talking about superficial UI design which is always a reflection of current trends and style preferences. They come and go. If "Flat" is the preference now, in a year or two time it will be passe and everyone will be looking for a change. As users we just adapt.

I am more concerned with a fundamental redesign of iOS. At the core, iOS is still very much the same as it was when it was first released. The rows upon rows of folders/applications without many options to change how information is presented to you outside of a few notifications is really starting to show its age. Android and Windows Mobile have, in some ways, beaten Apple at it's own game on the innovation front.

To be honest, I never really minded many of the skeuomorphisms found in iOS. For me, it's what differentiated iOS from the other mobile operating systems which in my opinion looked "boring" and bland in comparison. Some of us want just a functional looking UI and some of us want function AND form. But a simple re-skinning isn't going to mean much if changes under the hood aren't made as well.

Apparenty stock apps are changing so I would suspect those app icons will have changed as well.

As much as I have loved the Android experience I have had for the past year with the GS3, and Nexus 4, I am anxiously awaiting iOS 7. I picked up a GS4 on Sunday for grins, and giggles, and it's amazing to see the lag it has. Something no iOS device I have ever owned has had. I have learned that there really is no perfect mobile OS experience. iOS might be limited by some peoples standards, but it is always bloatware free, and is smooth as butter! Will likely be returning my GS4, and holding out for an iPhone 5S, or some other device later this year.

I think the Android UI is very confusing to use, especially when dealing with app updates and system settings and preferences. I like the simplicity of iOS, and I don't care about customizing how my app icons appear on the screen. I have no experience with Windows 8 on the Surface RT, though, so I am not sure how good it is.

I do think Apple could be more innovative when it comes to dealing with files. I just know they won't use a directory system like OS X, but it would be nice to access files on remote volumes and to be able to get photos and videos off of Configurator "supervised" devices more easily. I hope iOS 7 brings a lot more management features to the table for those of us who have to manage hundreds of devices.

I am sure I could come up with a whole host of other things that I would like changed or added, but the basic UI for apps and how system settings/preferences are accessed seem really great to me. I look forward to seeing what Ivy does with iOS 7 (and, hopefully, OS X).

You think the Galaxy S4 has lag? Oh boy, now that is talking out of your ass.

Yes, as long as they become more colourful than they already are :p Ive has a reputation for great design tastes, so that's good.

But for the love of God, it should defo NOT be flat as in WP8-flat. That is horrible. And no HTC One-like interface either. That's too bland as well.

Maybe something that removes the skeuomorphisms (like the leather, the casino design etc.). But no fundamental icon change if it sacrifices aesthetics.

Android's UI is just as easy to use, yet offers more versatility and control. App updates are straightforward, so I have no idea what you're talking about. Set apps to auto update, set apps to only update manually; as well as a few options to tell it when to update or not.

Apple makes New UI: Apple is copying! (Even when nobody has seen it yet)
Apple keeps old UI: Apple is doomed! It is not innovating!

Well, if something is not broken, don't fix it.

Or maybe, maybe "flat" refers to the overall function of the OS, nothing too flashy. As long as the icons somewhat stay the same, I'm happy :)

Yeah, it's how I like my women and my beer. Once you go flat you never go back.

You think the Galaxy S4 has lag? Oh boy, now that is talking out of your ass.

The S4 has a ton of lag because of all the crap it touts as "features." You'd think with a quad core 1.9 GHz processor it's be liquid smooth but it still lags. Look at some reviews and you can tell that it lags even when you open apps that came with the phone...right out of the box. If android is your thing then I'd take the htc one or the nexus 4 over the s4 any day of the week.

You think the Galaxy S4 has lag? Oh boy, now that is talking out of your ass.

I'm not saying it has major lag(as in all the time), but yes it has SOME lag. Considering I own one, and you probably don't, say what you will. My experience is first hand, yours is hearsay. Am I saying it's a deal breaker? Definitely not. However, with all of the added features there is a slight stutter when going from home screen to home screen. I've recommended the S4 to many people based on my positive experience with the S3, but the lag was surprising given the S4 has a Snapdragon S600 processor, and 2gb of ram. For the record my Nexus 4 has no lag whatsoever, so I place the blame of the lag solely on Touch Wiz. I'm hoping a software update is forthcoming.

The gloss on app icons is added by iOS automatically on top of the provided .png icon unless the dev specifically set the info.plist not to add the effect.

iOS 7 could override this and remove the gloss from the majority of app icons without having to modify the apps themselves.

Edit: Here's some details about how it works : http://iosdevelopertips.com/general/remove-shine-gloss-effect-on-iphone-icon.html

For what it's worth, if anyone from Apple is reading, - I really, REALLY don't like the glossy swoop over the icons since it's so inconsistent with 3rd party apps. Heck, even the original Apple apps are all over the place. Messages? Swoopy line. Camera? No swoopy line. Clock? WTF? WTF is wrong with the Clock icon? It has some really weird shading going through the 10 / 2 numbers. Is it an upside-down swoop? I can't figure out the logic behind this one...

Anyway, it comes as no surprise that Apple would tighten these things up. It's a mess!
