Or he is trying and Apple should listen to customers, yes I now Steve has his issues and I am sure this is one of them, but I don't see how this hurts or for that mater why we don't have this on an Ipad.

Nothing I have read has this in OS 4, or has someone herd it mention?

It's not in 4. I'm still calling it a hoax.

still pointless unless it works away from home, if I am on the same network then I am near my computer and can plug it in and not have to wait as long

Are you really that short sighted? Not everybody has the same habits as you do.

Many people dock their iPhones on their nightstands away from their computers when they sleep so they have the phone accessible if it rings at night. This would be the ideal time to sync. Instead, the current method makes a user connect iPhone via USB to their computer and wait while it syncs. It's a task that needlessly has to be done at least daily.

I have only one reason: ONE less USB cable connected and ONE more free USB port. ;) And this is per device. Currently I have two iPhones and an iPad to sync in the same computer with only 2 USB ports!

If it does get approved, I will download it immediately. It surely will be yanked soon after. Seems to be the way things get done.

You are so, so, so, so, so, so right! It's my biggest frustration with the iPhone/iTunes world.

What makes this even more frustrating is that the technology that is needed existed back in the 1990s (when I got my first PalmOS device). Palm had a thing called third party conduits that an app developer could include with their app (so, in this modern Apple world, these could be vetted and certified by Apple). The conduits registered themselves into the sync process (iTunes in the Apple world) so all the user needed to do was initiate the sync and not only did the data for calender, contacts, notes etc get synced but, after that was done, things like personal finance apps, electronic wallets, drawing packages or whatever could then sync their data as well. It worked really well.

Maybe one day Apple's sync infrastructure will manage to drag itself into the 1990s. In today's world one would hope that, if Apple did do a rework on the whole sync mechanism, that they would offer the choice of USB or WiFi as the physical link.

This is not a technical issue, just a philosophical or mental issue. I can't see this has not been already done internally and Steve said no for some reason, any reason, if he is like most of my CEO I had the displeasure of working for he does not have to give reason for not liking something, or for forcing the rest to do antiquated procedures.

They say you do, simple. Don't like, leave. They will not care.

The only time that would be helpful is if you want to sink it when you aren't at home. But I don't that's even possible because you have to have the app open on the computer...

But don't lots of people have their home computer on all the time with apps already running?

Either way, hope this gets approved. We need to there to be lots of discussion about this here and in other place so it's hard to reject it for any spurious reasons.

I'm gonna go out on a limb (maybe not!) and say this is a hoax.

I can assure you that this is not a hoax, it is the real deal. I witnessed this being developed, have seen it work and am very fortunate to know the developer personally. He is an amazing guy!

According to Apple's market and the general PC market in fact, most people are buying laptops rather than desktops these days. Laptops by their very physical nature are put to sleep when a user is away from them.

I think more people are running home servers than ever before though. I personally a computer sitting in the basement running 24/7 as a media centre.

Why is this such a big deal. You have to tell iTunes what to now sync "wirelessly" and hit apply or sync, so you will be at the computer I'm guessing. What's so bad about having to plug in a cable. Not too mention USB is going to be faster at moving the data.

Seems to me that this app would also open a door to performing a wireless firmware update. I can't imagine Apple allowing a method of upgrading firmware without being connected to a power source, which the sync cable doubles as. Too many bricked phones to deal with. FAIL.

My guess is - even if the developer expects it to get rejected, he gets publicity and sells it through Cydia....

Apple WILL do this but they can go further

please apple buy this developers company and integrate it into itunes!

This is so obvious. I would however like to initiate syncs to keep me updated in much the same way as my time capsule operates... i.e. IN THE BACKGROUND...

1. Can anyone out there tell me if the multitasking elements of the OS 4 will allow this in the background while still using the phone whether using this app or traditional sync?

2. Wouldn't it be great to be able to sync wirelessly over any network to a system back home?

It's a good question as to how itunes will know what you want to sync, unless the app allows pref settings. For those who sync daily, is it always the same (say iCal and music) or does it change around a lot?

I really doubt this will be approved, but the developer says in the YouTube comments that he hasn't violated anything in the developer agreement.

I do not understand why Apple hasn't implemented this yet, especially since the 3GS broadcom chip has n support.

Apple's growth in Desktops vs. Laptops shows the trend to desktops is rebounding considerably.

I would love to have this feature...

It does not make sense to require me to plug my phone into a computer when both devices are on the same local network.

Won't Apple wipe it from your phone remotely if it gets yanked from the store after you download it? Or do they only do that for special cases like that tethering app?
