Doesn’t Mac and iPhone allow for peer to peer WiFi connectivity? If so, no need for a LAN or Bluetooth.

Isn’t 4.0 supposed to allow for VPNs? 3G remote syncing could then be done securely.

I would also love for Apple update the firmware in the Time Capsule to enable it as a VPN personal cloud, but since this would eat away at Mobile Me’s income, I don’t see it happening.

This is neat and all, but there's not much benefit in it in my opinion. Transfers most definitely won't be as fast and would just drain the battery. The USB on the other hand allows you to charge while you sync.

And if it all has to be initiated at the iTunes end then it just means more time in front of the computer, unless you walk away when the sync starts..

I think this is a great app, if it works as claimed and Apple approves it.

I'm at a loss to why Apple hasn't done something like this themselves already, and can only imagine that either (1) they are holding it back so it can be a new feature in a future OS or (2) there is some user interface reason they don't want it, such as it would work way too slow and syncing would take hours and frustrate people.

Does anyone know whether it would be really slow to sync wirelessly, since that might be a valid reason for not having it?

Woah. This is cool. Could be an easy way to update my podcasts!

I'm pretty sure the video says you just have to tell it once to sync on the computer. As long as iTunes is open, "automatic syncing when device is connected" is checked and the applet is running, it should sync auto..umm... magically!

My question is... Does it backup too?

It just occurred to me that the iPhone app probably does very little, hence the developer's confidence in it not violating the SDK agreement. Most of the "magic" is probably happening in the helper app, which is somehow fooling iTunes into thinking the iPhone/iPod is connected physically to the machine.

I still think Apple will reject it but will be happy to be proved wrong.

i've always wondered about this feature, but transfers will be waaaaaay to slow.

although i read something recently about nokia developing some kind of extremely speedy wifi.

Can't Apple just say that this is an unauthorized access to iTunes and hence get rejected? It reminds me of Palm trying to make the Pre sync through iTunes...

Backholded by IP?

It is easy to asume that this is a nobrainer feature that should have being done long ago, and I suspect that this have being excluded in iPhone OS due to copyrights and licensing of the IP involved.

YES! I've been hoping something even slower than USB2 would come along. Thank goodness Apple dropped the firewire from iPods, otherwise things could potentially have been quick and simple. Nobody wants that.

My guess is that the desktop app works like a virtual CD drive in that it mounts as a virtual USB device (iPhone) and simply forwards the data through the connection created by the app.

I wouldn't get it anyways as I don't support the aggregate-app model for functions like this. For example, instead of the OS finding a printer on the network and then automatically downloading the required drivers so the user can print from any app on the device, you have to install an HP printing app solely to print to HP printers from within that particular app alone.

Dudes, pardon me for this,
but i think this app is not real,
since the two guys were talking to each other in Arabic,
and one was asking: Do you connected the cable ?
the other replied: Yes, ready
then he said: focus on the phone now.

i think this is kind of weird

Sounds great. I hope Apple approves it and it isn't too slow/flakey to be useful.

Also, it's got to be able to handle the sync being canceled at any time or the connection being lost at any time. If I need to restore my phone if the sync is interrupted, it's not worth the trouble.

For those who don't get it:

The place I want my phone to live when I'm not carrying it around (my nightstand) is not where my iTunes computer is. As it is now, I have a cable + dock on my nightstand for charging, and a cable on the computer, where I need to put my phone occasionally for syncs. It would be nice to sync while the phone is docked on my nightstand.

Also, it would be nice to sync my latest podcasts from anywhere in the house as I am working around the house.

I'm still trying to figure out why people are SO annoyed by having to plug a cable into the bottom of their iPhone to sync it.

Me too. I really enjoy plugging in my iPhone, then syncing it. Then plugging in my iPod, then syncing it, and then plugging in my iPad, and then syncing it.

Sometimes, just for variety, I plug in all three devices and then sync them them in turn. My laptop looks like a kind of octopus. Sometimes I sync my iPhone, iPod, and iPad. Othertimes I sync my iPod, iPad, iPhone, then there're days when I do my iPad, iPhone, iPod...

This looks awesome! Apple should have made this a standard feature a long time ago. I can't wait for the day when iPod's/iPhone's can be made without 20-pin USB ports or headphone jacks! WiFi and Bluetooth are the future!

I don't know why Apple hasn't done this natively yet. Seems like a no-brainer and something a lot of users will find super-useful. I know I would, but not sure I want to install a third party app to have to run in order to get this done.

This makes Apple look stupid so I can't see them approving it. Hopefully, the bad press will at least get them to finally enable the feature themselves. There is no technical reason they can't do it. They just want to save certain things for future models so they can push you to upgrade (i.e. why wasn't cut & paste in V1.0? 2.0? It wasn't an accident that's for sure).

Other things that should be obvious that Apple hasn't supported thus far:

-Ability to play iPhone/iPod songs over Airtunes straight from the device on your local network (to work with Apple TV and Airport Express units). This should be a no brainer, but it hasn't happened yet because Apple wants you to BUY a dock for your stereo instead so they won't support it.

-The reverse should be possible as well. You should be able to access your shared library remotely across your own network like a regular Mac can do including watching videos on the device that are compatible (helpful if you have large libraries and want to hear a song that's on your home server when you're in your backyard or whatever without having to copy it over first.

-Lyrics in the "Remote" app like it already displays for songs stored on the iPhone/iPod (mystery to me why this hasn't been included; I've sent feedback asking/suggesting the feature and they ignored it, it seems).

-Visualizers for Apple TV and/or the iPhone/iPod Touch. iTunes has it, so why don't these devices? They're more than capable given the basic displays iTunes has in it. Slideshows are OK on AppleTV, but why should I have to boot up XBMC just to see a light show on my big screen projector?

Nothing is getting more aggravating then having to sync with itunes (via USB), then open each individual app that needs to sync via wireless..

Why couldn't apple have some built-in API to allow itunes to auto sync all apps.

I agree! It's ridiculous that we have to run separate syncs for each app. It's even more ridiculous that developers have to write syncing code. This should all be handled by iTunes via an API.
