i notice apple watches, and their choice of bands. I also think cases are tacky.
Lets not act like people don't look at other peoples conscious and conspicuous intents of apparel and wearables.
Ok, so if I noticed someone with a titanium AW i’d have the view; ‘Christ what an overpriced waste of money compared to the aluminium’. I wouldn’t say it though. He difference is Apple watches aren’t impressive status objects we tend to notice and envy. Others people’s choices are personal and our opinions in that are irrelevant.
Again, it's all about the relative value. To you, the cost of the upgrade is not justified by the new features. It's a personal decision, and one that is not informed without taking into account how much one can afford. I'm not saying "you can't afford it", i'm saying if you made 4 billion dollars a year, you would probably upgrade every year. To pretend that how much you can afford on items like an Apple Watch plays absolutely no role in your decision is completely false.
My boss has a personal wealth of around €100m and he doesn’t upgrade his Apple products every year. People’s interest level in these sorts of things plays more of a role than affordability. Many people buy what they can’t afford too. It’s an irrelevant assumption to base this stuff on wealth.

I personally agree with you, but I’m not so sure that’s generally the case. We live in a time where people buy simple Supreme sweatshirts for a lot of money to wear as status symbols, simply because of the logo, and Apple has really been the only tech company that managed to become status-y with their tech products. It’s why the white earbuds were such a smart marketing move back when the iPod came out.

I suppose it’s more an affordable status for some as opposed to a status of extreme wealth like a car or luxury watch seem to imply.

I am upgrading this year as I can afford it (this year), and I like nice shiny new toys. I have gone gold stainless because I think it looks nicer than the aluminium (I have a Nike+ AW4 SG) and has the sapphire screen etc. I know functionally it is the same but to me the extra is worth it. I am not a millionaire and I am not trying to be someone I am not. Each to their own.

I do notice what Apple watch others wear, but I don't judge them by it - the Apple Watch is very much about personal style and taste rather than wealth/social standing IMO.

To answer the topic question - I think personally the dark titanium does look a lot like the aluminium, but it wouldn't stop me from buying it if I personally liked the material over stainless. I prefer the Stainless over titanium though.

I prefer GPS only over G+Cellular....if nothing, for just the extra battery life the GPS only model offers.

Just discovered that SS and Ti do not have a GPS only option, which really sucks.
Why not give people the option?

If that is your reaction, then that’s on you bud. What an unfortunate mentality to have, as an Apple user no less. Do you drive down the road, judging everyone’s choice of luxury vehicle when they could have purchased the economy matched specs? Do you judge people at the grocery store who chose the “good cereal” over the store brand equivalent? If you see someone with a non-bottom tier Apple Watch, and think “what a waste of money”, you can believe someone is out there is saying your choice of watch (or phone) is a waste of money as well. You’re no better than them.

To be honest I wouldn’t have that opinion it was just an example of flipping the psychology.

Because then you’re creating too many Sku’s for various model Apple Watches, it would just create more confusion, by having a select few options for the higher priced Apple Watches, it makes more sense to do what Apple is doing from a tactical standpoint to have less manufacturing for all the Apple Watch models.

I did especially after I saw the SBSS Hermès model. Went from series 4 Hermès to series 5. I prefer the Hermès exclusive faces and bands.
The all-black Hermès is stunning. Seriously considered it.

I ordered titanium black, I know what I get: lighter, stronger, look good for me. I do not care what others think about my watch. Going to enjoy my watch.
If I found them cheaper 1st 14 days, return and re-buy the same.
The Titanium watch is nice. You also get an extra sport band, a custom watch face, and an extra year of warranty for $100 more. I’d buy the Titanium if it were offered with the Hermes watch faces.

I personally don’t class titanium as a particularly premium material to be honest. It’s hard, super lightweight which is why golf clubs are made out of it and at the very cheap end too. Seiko watches introduced titanium to the market 30 years ago too. From what I have seen you’d have to be close to the watch to see a brushed finish and make the connection it’s the titanium model. It’s a very clever marketing ploy by Apple to set a price structure the way they have for material finishes as it’s clear you’re not paying for the material itself but the fact you have that particular model.

Have any of you guys ever been asked what material your AW is made from? I know I haven’t but plenty are interested in the fact you’ve got an AW in my experience.
I’ve had the opposite experience. Plenty of people notice my Stainless Steel Apple Watch because it’s shiny. Tons of people have Apple Watches, but most are aluminum. The Titanium seems like it won’t have the same effect as the steel.

Still deciding if I’m going to opt for the ceramic, however; hard pass on the titanium. It doesn’t really do much for me in terms of what it offers, the most unique watch Apple offers is definitely the ceramic and stainless (More specifically, the black stainless with the DLC), If Apple had offered the gray ceramic, I would have already pre-ordered, but I’m not sure if I want the white ceramic, but ultimately it’s down to the stainless and ceramic models.

Oh, and I’ve been a stainless owner every year since the first Apple Watch when it launched in April 2015.

Super shiny isn’t always to everybody’s taste though. I much prefer the look of the aluminium personally with a more matt finish and thinking about it nearly all my 316 stainless watches are a mix of shiny and matt on the casings. I’ve gone for the space grey aluminium this time around as it’s less noticeable and in your face as the gold I’ve currently got. I don’t really get the titanium though. Seems a lot of money and doesn’t seem to add much benefit.

I like the sheen of the Stainless Steel and I have one on order but after seeing the videos for the Titanium version I almost cancelled it. I'm back at that happy place now thinking the stainless will be a nice watch and if I DID happen to finally order a Milanese loop (now they are down in price) then it would be a better match :)

The Titanium one does look very good indeed though.

So because my local Apple Store isn’t stocking this and I don’t want to wait 2 months to receive it, I’m picking up the SBSS. I’ll just preorder faster next year, lol.

From what I heard there is very little difference between the titanium and the aluminum brush metal.

It totally looks like the aluminum model and isn’t worth the price IMO however it should serve its purpose for being light on the wrist.

I've had every generation of SBSS so far, and I ordered the regular titanium this time around. I've really liked the space black, and I'm a little bit anxious I might regret the titanium, but I'm eager to try something different. I hope it doesn't look too weird with my SB link band (it's hard to tell from photos) but I really only use that band when I'm dressed up so it wouldn't be a huge loss to forego it for this cycle.

I am baffled at people who think it looks like the aluminum watch. It sure doesn't read that way to me in the photos and videos I've watched. If anything, I think the black titanium is too close to SBSS and I wasn't enthused about that option at all.

We sure are an opinionated bunch considering none of us (I presume) have seen them in real life yet.

It looks nothing like aluminum.. especially in sunlight. That brushed texture is going to have a really nice shine/sheen to it.

This! Went to the Apple Store Cologne (Germany) today and even in indoor lighting the difference between Titanium and Aluminium was much more pronounced than I had anticipated. Titanium is much shinier and feels awesome in the hand. Highly recommended! Me, I’m still on the edge if always-on is reason enough for me to upgrade from the S4.

I’d ask where did you hear that? And specifically, what are you referring to ‘there’s very little difference’? You mean in terms of actually looking at it or overall feel/touch between both materials?
