ugly looking thick smartphone with a poor display for the price is hopefully a flop.
0.03 of an inch (0.6mm) thicker than the xs/xs max....
I'll take that slightly extra thickness for the amazing battery life.
yea...sadly it did flop, nobody wanted any of that inferiority
I dont read threads like this but the last few trips to the apple store (in a comp repair the last few weeks), the XR table is 100% empty. The XS tables are surrounded by people. Asked the sales lady how the Xr has been and she said not as good as they hoped for.
I don't think it is a flop, but I don't think it is selling like Apple envisioned either, and I certainly don't think it will outsell the XS Max.
Where is the proof of this?
The real question is how well does XR sell compared to the all time high of the iPhone 6 era.

Fair enough but I wasn’t replying to a comment about a thicker bezel. It was about the Xr being slightly thicker than the Xs/Xs maxSure, but as someone who's owned both phones, its noticeable and its a fair thing to criticize if it's noticeable, not unlike you notice the better battery life on the XR
FTR, I still think the XR is better value, and I recommend it to family who are looking for a new iPhone and don't care about the things I value - but I don't agree with comments that brush off the thicker bezel. It does make a difference when watching videos or using the phone landscape...because that 0.6mm turns into 1.2 mm when you compare both bezels in landscape, and it can feel surprisingly claustrophobic at times
Also, despite the screen to screen ratio, these side bezels are in fact thicker than the iPhone 6/6s/7/8 which can also stick out if you look for it. My mom had an issue with this, so its not unnoticeable
That said I do acknowledge most people won't notice this, and won't care - but some of us do notice it and its a fair comment!
No, it’s not. It’s clearly the budget model within the X series. The Xs is the successor to the X, so that’s the relevant price comparison. The Xr is the model with the latest processor but lesser features - exactly like last year’s 8.The XR carries a premium price. It is positioned as a premium offering within the X series, thus the name XR and not iPhone 9.

Thank you! Finally some common sense in all these "Xr hate" topics. The Xr is iPhone 9 with Face ID.
The X was a new class of device, which XS and XS Max are successors to.
All are premium devices, unless you didn't think iPhone 7 was a premium device.

They don’t have to say it. It has a lower price in exchange for lacking the premium features of the X / Xs. Removed 3D Touch, low res LCD screen, single camera, etc. we can figure out for ourselves what it is without Apple using the word.Who said it was a budget model? Where is this advertised? When has apple said the XR is a budget model? Its lower in price compared to the other X offferings, but still carries a premium price for the offering. Because the XR is a premium offering. Does a BMW carry any less of a premium price compared to a Ferrari?
Well, with this logic, the budget, entry level devices would go to the iPhone 7 and 8. Lower pricing than the XR, and still contains the 'premium' offerings you mention. They don’t have to say it. I never said anything like that. I have been debating that the XR is a premium offering for the price, and not a budget or entry level phone.I honestly don’t care how you want to characterize the Xr. If you want to call it “premium,” ok, whatever. That’s a subjective term. But it’s disingenuous to say that Apple lowered the price of their flagship by comparing the Xr to the X. The Xr is the replacement for the 8/8+.
Ok. I don’t want to get hung up on subjective terms like “premium” and “budget.”Well, with this logic, the budget, entry level devices would go to the iPhone 7 and 8. Lower pricing than the XR, and still contains the 'premium' offerings you mention.
